Right-hander Chris Ellis takes the ball for the Braves against Smokies righthander and top Cubs pitching prospect Duane Underwood Jr. LAST TIME OUT: Dansby Swanson went 4-for-5 and scored the game-winning run in the top of the ninth on a wild pitch, sending the M-Braves to an 8-7 back-and-forth win over the Tennessee Smokies Wednesday. Tied 7-7, Swanson hit a one-out double in the ninth, his MiLB-leading 14th, with the wild pitch sending the Braves to their 4th win in 6 tries on the current ten-game road trip. Mauricio Cabrera picked up the win in relief, getting out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth to keep the game tied. Madison Younginer earned the save. Carlos Franco and Willians Astudillo hit back-to-back home runs in the third to lead off the inning and help the Braves build an early lead, the first back-to-back jacks since Eric Duncan and Willie Cabrera on July 10, BACK-TO-BACK JACKS: Carlos Franco and Willians Astudillo hit back-to-back home runs to lead off the Braves third on Wednesday night at Tennessee, becoming the first Braves duo to go back-to-back since July 10, 2010 when Eric Duncan and Willie Cabrera did it at Trustmark Park against Birmingham. From 2005 to 2010, the M- Braves hit back-to-back homers 11 times. DOUBLES BY DANSBY: #1 overall pick and top Braves prospect Dansby Swanson has 14 doubles this season between high-a Carolina and double-a Mississippi, in sole possession of the lead across all of Minor League Baseball. On Wednesday night, he went 4-for-5 in the series opener at Tennessee, including scoring the go-ahead run in the ninth on a wild pitch. He provided all the M-Braves offense in his double-a debut, going 2-for-3 on Saturday night with an RBI double and a two-run home run in a 3-2 win over Jacksonville. Swanson hit.333 with 12 doubles, a home run and 10 RBIs in 21 games at A+ Carolina before Saturday s promotion. Swanson becomes the 6th #1 overall pick to play for the Atlanta Braves organization, joining Jeff Burroughs (1969 draft; Atlanta), Bob Horner ( 78 draft, Atlanta), BJ Surhoff ( 85 draft; Atlanta); Chipper Jones ( 90 draft; Atlanta) and Justin Upton ( 05 draft, Atlanta). TOUCH EM ALL: Matt Kennelly and Matt Lipka homered on Monday night in Jacksonville to help the Braves to an 8-2 win. For Kennelly, it was his first stateside home run since May 9, 2013 in a game for AAA Gwinnett against the Pawtucket Red Sox. The homer broke a stretch of 698 plate appearances and 1088 days without a long ball. For Lipka, it was his 12th career home run and his third at the double-a level. MATINEE MELANCHOLY: With Sunday s day-game loss, the M-Braves fell to 1-6 in day baseball this season and 5-14 in their last 19 afternoon contests dating back to the start of HOT OUT OF THE GATE: After losing the first 10 contests in which opponents scored first, the M-Braves won on Friday and Saturday night after Jacksonville plated the first run(s) of the game. So far in 2016, the M-Braves are playing much better baseball when they score first. They are 9-5 when scoring first in a game, but 2-10 when the opponent scores first.
