RHP Lucas Giolito takes the mound for the White Sox, who are in fourth place in the AL Central, a 0.5 game ahead of Detroit. The Sox and Royals have split the first two games of the series. Following today's series fi nale, the White Sox conclude the home portion of their 2017 schedule with a four-game series vs. the Los Angeles Angels Chicago concludes the season with a three-game series at Cleveland from 9/29-10/1. The Sox went 4-5 on their last trip to Kansas City (2-1), Detroit (2-2) and Houston (1-2) from 9/ TODAY'S STORYLINES Chicago is trying to win its fi rst season series vs. Kansas City since 2010 (10-8). The White Sox have outscored their opponents, 85-60, and hit 18 home runs during the current 8-6 stretch since 9/9. The Sox are 3-6 over the last nine games at Guaranteed Rate Field, and will fi nish with a losing record at home for the fourth time in the last fi ve seasons. Lucas Giolito is 2-2 with a 1.95 ERA (7 ER/32.1 IP), 0.99 WHIP and.174 opponents average over his last fi ve starts (fi ve QS) he has allowed one run or less three times. Tim Anderson is (.410) with three doubles, one triple, two homers, seven RBI and OPS during his career-high 14-game hitting streak he owns six multihit efforts. LAST NIGHT'S RECAP Kansas City scored six unanswered runs from the fourthseventh inning en route to an 8-2 win over Chicago. José Abreu gave the White Sox a 1-0 lead in the fi rst on a RBI groundout before the Royals scored two runs in the fourth, one in the fi fth, three in the seventh and one in the eighth. Abreu added a RBI groundout in the seventh to reach 100 RBI for the fourth consecutive season (see "PITO POWER" below). Dylan Covey fell to 0-7 despite allowing three runs on fi ve hits over 6.0 IP, his fi rst MLB quality start four Chicago relievers combined to allow fi ve runs on six hits and three walks in 3.0 IP. PITO POWER José Abreu has hit 30-plus home runs for the third time (25 in 2016), and recorded 100 for the fourth time, in his career. Is the fi rst Sox ever to hit 30-plus homers in three of his fi rst four MLB seasons the only other foreign-born players to hit 30-plus HRs in three of his first four years are Jose Canseco and Albert Pujols (Elias). Needs nine runs scored to join Magglio Ordonez (2002), Frank Thomas (2000) and Albert Belle (1998) as the only players in Sox history to record 40 2B/30 HR/100 RBI/100 RS in a single season.
