UT SOFTBALL WINTER CAMP Held at the Fetterman Training Facility JANUARY 29 30, 2011 Jillian Spink Althoughh it was a very short month in December for workouts and practice, the girls took advantage of their time here in Toledo before they all took off for their Winter Break. The girls were also able to squeeze in some time for volunteering between their workouts and studying at the Ronald McDonald House where they made an Italian dinner for the residents. Later in the week, Coach Beyster had the team, along with our Athletic Trainers, over for the Team Christmas Party where she made baked rigatoni and chicken alfredo, along with the garlic bread, of course! Everyone also enjoyedinthechristmasgiftexchange,where coffee was a very popular gift exchanged amongst everyone! We wish you and yours a very safe and happy holiday season! Meet the Rockets Junior, First basemen Hometown: El Dorado Hills, CA Major: Athletic Training Completed p the 2010 season with 36 RBI s Went 2 for 4 against Eastern Michigan on April 2 nd compiling 3 RBI s and a HR Went 2 for 2 against Miami (OH) on April 23 rd with 2 BB, a double and 3 RBI s Jen Solanics Freshman, Pitcher Hometown: Columbia Station, OH Major: Bioengineering Was Second Team All Ohio her senior year Set the state record in consecutive innings without a walk (35) and without a run allowed (35) senior year Selected the Lorain County Coaches Association Miss Softball senior year

2 Coach Beyster s Team Christmas Party 2010 Freshmen & Juniors After eating good food and enjoying an entertaining gift exchange, teams were put together to build graham houses in a friendly competition. Teams were the Athletic Trainers, Freshmen & Juniors, and Sophomores & Seniors. Sophomores & Seniors Athletic Trainers Page 2

3 Although no real winner was named, choose for yourself which house was the best! Sophomore & Senior s scientific (and disastrous) design; a volcano was included and erupted during the presentation! The Athletic Trainers quaint little village (it took only four team members to assemble it!) The Freshmen & Junior take on the village was a very artistic one and it s creative expression could not truly be expressed through a simple photograph Page 3

4 COMMUNITY SERVICE For the second year in a row, the girls used their cooking talents and prepared an Italian meal for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Toledo. Page 5

UT HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE CHRISTIN CHADWICK 1989-19921992 On December 16, 2010, the Softball Program was proud to announce that former softball standout Christin Chadwick was inducted into the 2011

Chadwick was a pitcher for the Rockets from 1989 1992 where she earned two time All MAC and All Mideast Region honors, as well as second team Academic All America honors twice and Academic All MAC

5 UT HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE CHRISTIN CHADWICK On December 16, 2010, the Softball Program was proud to announce that former softball standout Christin Chadwick was inducted into the 2011 Class Varsity T Hall of Fame. Chadwick was a pitcher for the Rockets from where she earned two time All MAC and All Mideast Region honors, as well as second team Academic All America honors twice and Academic All MAC twice. Chadwick was a part of the 1989 and 1992 MAC Championship teams where in both years she helped advance the Rockets to its first and second NCAA Tournament appearances. Just a few of her career list ranks she holds at UT include ranking first in wins (131), third in ERA (1.38), and first in innings pitched (256 in 1991), as well as ranking thirdincareerwins,fifthincareer innings pitched and ninth in career shutouts in the Mid American Conference record books. The team also found time to volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House and make our Annual Team Dinner. This year we left more cookies then we ate!

It was an extremely worthwhile experience that our Program was proud to be apart of. Another Annual Event; our Team Holiday Party! Wow, talk about interesting sweaters, fun times, and good food!

I would personally like to congratulate our own 2011 BETTER STUDENTS BETTER ATHLETES BETTER PEOPLE BROOKEGATES #11 The Toledo Softball team selects Brooke Gates as this month s Athlete of the Month.

6 Beyster s Blog ATHLETE OF THE MONTH Although December was a short month, it was still packed with workouts, activities, events, and community services. We were determined to send the players off on their Winter Break ready and focused so that when they returned, it was time to get down to business for the fast approaching Season. The team also found time to volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House and make our Annual Team Dinner. This year we left more cookies then we ate! :) We also took part in the Giving Tree at the University of Toledo Rec Center that helped two very deserving Families. It was an extremely worthwhile experience that our Program was proud to be apart of. Another Annual Event; our Team Holiday Party! Wow, talk about interesting sweaters, fun times, and good food! :) Whenever this group gets together it is never a dull moment!
