1 INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS GAME NOTES GAME #24 / Road Game #16 Indianapolis Indians (11-12) at Lehigh Valley IronPigs (10-12) Sunday, May 2, First 1:35 p.m. EDT Coca-Cola Park -- Allentown, PA Indians RHP Michael Crotta (2-0, 1.78 ERA w/alt) vs. IronPigs RHP Nate Bump (3-0, 1.80 ERA) TODAY S TRIBE STARTER: Today s probable starting pitcher for Indianapolis, Michael Crotta, will be making his Triple-A debut against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs this afternoon In four starts for Double-A Altoona (Pa.) this season, the right-handed pitcher posted a 2-0 record and a scintillating 1.78 ERA The Florida native has been dominant at home, recording a 0.95 ERA in three starts (19.0 IP, 2 ER) to go along with an impressive 14 strikeouts In his only start on the road in 2010 a 10-3 victory over Double-A Akron - Crotta went 6.1 innings and allowed three runs on nine hits Particularly impressive for the righty this season has been his late inning composure In 9.1 innings of work in the fifth, sixth or seventh innings, Crotta has yet to allow a run and has held the opposition to only six hits Crotta has also limited opposing batters to a miniscule.156 batting average this season, with right-handed batters hitting only.100 (4-for-40) and left handed batters posting just a.200 batting average against (10-for-50) Also of note, Crotta has held opposing batters to a.100 batting average (1-for-10) with runners on and two outs, a.200 batting average (4-for-20) with runners in scoring position and a.125 batting average (1-for-8) with runners in scoring position with two outs. TODAY S OPPOSING STARTER: Set to oppose Crotta in today s contest is IronPigs starter Nate Bump, who, through four starts, has posted the sixth-best ERA in the International League ERA at 1.80 While Bump owns a respectable 4.09 ERA on the road (11.0 IP, 5 ER, 2 starts), the righty has been nearly untouchable at Coca-Cola Park this season and has posted a 2-0 record and 0.00 ERA (one unearned run) in 14.0 innings of work at home In 2009 as a member of the Toledo Mud Hens, Bump turned in two dominant outings against the Tribe and recorded a microscopic 0.68 ERA in 13.1 IP (1 ER) On July 12, Bump held the Indians scoreless over 7.1 innings of work to earn the win before a month and a half later on August 27, the right-hander tossed 6.0 innings and allowed two runs (one earned) in a no-decision against the Tribe. HITTING IN THE CLUTCH: In the last five games, Indians batters have driven in an astounding 18 runners (33 total runs, 55% scored with two outs) with two outs in an inning During the same five-game stretch, only six runs have been driven in with two outs by an opposing batter against the Tribe SS Argenis Diaz has accounted for five RBI with two outs over the last five games, while 3B Pedro Alvarez and OF/1B Brian Myrow have each driven in four runners with two outs. GOING YARD: 3B Pedro Alvarez s home run in Saturday night s 10-6 loss to Lehigh Valley marked the second time in 23 games played this season that the slugger has hit a home run in back-to-back games During his 27 home run, 126 game rookie campaign in 2009, the Pirates No. 1 prospect only hit home runs in consecutive games played twice (June 24 and 25 and July 13 and 16) Also, with his three run blast against PawSox starter Adam Mills on April 30, Alvarez snapped a drought of 12 consecutive games in which he had failed to record a home run Previously, the third baseman s longest homer-less streak was 10 games (May 23 June 3, 2009) while Alvarez was a member of the Single-A Lynchburg (Va.) Hillcats. WALKING OVER THE COMPETITION: Following his 2-for-4 effort on Saturday night, INF Neil Walker has now reached base in 11 consecutive games The utility infielder has reached base via a hit in 10 of the 11 contests and is hitting.367 (18-for-49) with seven runs scored, five doubles, two home runs, 12 RBI and five stolen bases during the streak... Walker has also already swiped seven bases on the season, one more than his entire total for last season and only three behind his career season best of 10, which he accomplished during his MVP season with the Indians in THANK GOODNESS IT S FRIDAY: Tribe 2B Brian Friday went 1-for-4 in last night s contest to extend his hitting streak to eight straight games with a base knock... During his streak, Friday is batting.357 (10-for-28) with five runs and three RBI... It is the longest streak for the right-handed hitter since he hit safely in 10 straight for Double-A Altoona from August 7 to August 20 last season. ROAD WARRIORS: Despite Saturday night s loss to Lehigh Valley, the Indians are tied with the Durham Bulls for the most wins on the road in the International League this season with eight Indianapolis 8-7 road record is only one of four winning road records in the IL, including Durham s 8-6 record, Columbus 6-3 record and Toledo s 7-3 record. LIFE IN LEHIGH: One game into their third season of baseball in Lehigh Valley ( ) and the Indians struggles at Coca-Cola Park have continued Following Saturday night s 10-6 setback at the hands of the IronPigs, the Tribe has been outscored 52 to 34 and out-hit 85 to 81 while posting a 2-7 record at Coca-Cola Park Overall, since the Tribe became affiliated with the Pirates in 2005 they have posted an 8-13 record against the Philadelphia Phillies Triple-A farm club, despite outscoring their Phillies Triple-A opponents and out-hitting them 192 to 184.
