Round Rock RHP Akeem Bostick is scheduled to start opposite New Orleans RHP Hector Noesi in game one before Express RHP Corbin Martin and RHP Nick Neidert square off in game two. First pitch for the opening contest is set for 5:00 p.m. with game two to follow approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one. Both contests will be seven innings in length. The New Orleans Baby Cakes topped the Round Rock Express by a final score of 2-1 in Friday s Opening Day bout at the Shrine on Airline. A pitcher s duel erupted early on as both teams were held scoreless until the eighth inning. New Orleans struck first as CF Isaac Galloway worked a leadoff double to open the home half of the eighth. Following an Isan Diaz walk, RF Austin Dean flew out to put runners on the corners. In the next at-bat, LF Harold Ramirez lined a shot to Express SS Alex De Goti, who bobbled the offering, allowing the go-ahead run to score on a fielding error. After DH Gabriel Guerrero flied out to move Diaz to third, a run-scoring wild pitch by Express RHP Cy Sneed doubled the Baby Cakes advantage to 2-0. Round Rock s only hit of the contest came in the top of the ninth inning as 2B Jack Mayfield blasted a solo homer to cut the final score to 2-1. BOSTICK ON THE BUMP Express RHP Akeem Bostick is slated to get the start in game one of tonight s doubleheader. The righty posted solid numbers in Astros spring training, limiting opponents to just two runs in 8.2 innings pitched over five relief outings for a 2.08 ERA. Bostick tallied eight strikeouts to just three walks this spring. THEN COMES CORBIN Tonight s game two starter for Round Rock, RHP Corbin Martin, is heralded as one of the top prospects in the Houston Astros organization. The righty checks in as the #5 prospect in the team s farm system, according to MLB.com. Martin was also recently tabbed as the #80 prospect in baseball by MLB.com. IT S NOT HOW YOU START... With last night s defeat, the Round Rock Express dropped to 8-12 all-time on Opening Day, including 7-7 since joining the ranks of Triple-A in As an Astros affiliate, the Express are 4-8 on Opening Day. K S FOR DAYS The New Orleans pitching staff combined to rack up 17 strikeouts in last night s contest, including a careerhigh 11 by starter RHP Zac Gallen. The effort marked the most strikeouts against a Round Rock club since Colorado Springs pitchers teamed up to punchout 18 Express hitters on August 21, LET S PLAY TWO Since the start of the 2015 season, the Express are 14-3 in the first game of a doubleheader. However, Round Rock has gone 8-9 in game twos for a overall record in the last 17 doubleheaders. The Express finished 7-7 in twin bills last season and hasn t been swept in a doubleheader since the Nashville Sounds completed the feat on August 10, MAYFIELD SAVES THE DAY Round Rock 2B Jack Mayfield s home run to lead off the ninth inning of last night s defeat marked the team s only base hit of the evening. EXPRESS MANAGER MICKEY STOREY Mickey Storey joins the Express from the Class-A Quad Cities River Bandits, where he began his managerial career in The 32-year-old skipper led the River Bandits to an record in 2018, the second-best mark in the Midwest League and the club s highest win total since Prior to his time in Quad Cities, Storey served as the Development Coach at Class-A Advanced Buies Creek in The former right-handed pitcher had a nine-year professional playing career that included one season with the Astros in 2012 in which he posted a 3.86 ERA in 26 appearances with the Major League club. Storey was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he attended nearby Deerfield Beach High School before moving on to Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. He was drafted twice in his career, first by the Minnesota Twins in the 22nd round of the 2007 MLB Draft and again by the Oakland Athletics in the 31st round of the 2008 MLB Draft. During his nine-year professional career, Storey pitched at every level of affiliated baseball, including stints with Sacramento and Oklahoma City in the Pacific Coast League. He also posted winter ball stints in the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Venezuela. He finished his playing career in 2016 following two seasons with the Somerset Patriots of the independent Atlantic League. In total, the righty amassed a career 3.52 ERA in 385 games.
