The Sox have opened the season with a pair of one-run victories, posting a 4-3 win on Opening Night before rallying last night for a 5-4 victory over the A's. Following tomorrow's game, the White Sox return to Chicago to open the home portion of their schedule with three games vs. Cleveland (4/8-10) before taking a six-game, seven-day trip to Minnesota (4/11-14) and Tampa Bay (4/15-17). The Sox have one off day in April (4/12) before playing a stretch of 19 consecutive games from 4/13-5/1 they play 17 of their fi rst 27 games on the road and 33 of their fi rst 42 outside the AL Central division. TONIGHT'S STORYLINES The White Sox are 2-0 for the 33rd time in franchise history and are looking for their fi rst 3-0 start since Chicago has opened the season with back-to-back, one-run victories for the fi rst time since 2005 (1-0 and 4-3 vs. Cleveland). The Sox have won six straight games at The Coliseum, their longest streak since 8/3/89-9/18/90 they are looking to win seven in a row in Oakland for the first time since 9/24/87-4/17/88. Robin Ventura has 299 victories as White Sox manager. Carlos Rodon is 5-2 with a 1.81 ERA (11 ER/54.2 IP) and 49 strikeouts over his last eight starts dating back to 8/11/15. Adam Eaton has reached base safely in 24 consecutive games dating back to 9/9/15, hitting.388 (38-98) with a.459 on-base percentage and a.990 OPS. LAST NIGHT'S RECAP Jimmy Rollins hit a solo home run off Sean Doolittle with two outs in the ninth inning to lift the White Sox to a 5-4 victory. Rollins connected on the 40th game-winning homer of his career and the sixth in the ninth inning or later. Todd Frazier also hit his fi rst homer with the Sox, a three-run shot off Chris Bassitt in the fi fth Adam Eaton reached base safely for the 24th straight game, going 3-5 with a run scored. Jose Quintana (2 ER/5.2 IP) posted his major-league leading 53rd no decision since 2012 despite leaving with a 3-2 lead. Matt Albers made his 21st consecutive scoreless appearance, throwing 1.1 IP for his fi rst hold Nate Jones earned the win after suffering a blown save, and David Robertson pitched a ninth inning for his second save. HOW THE WEST WAS WON The White Sox have gone (.657) vs. the American League West since 2015, the best winning percentage in the major leagues. Sox pitchers have recorded a 3.34 ERA (121 ER/326.1 IP) and have made 27 quality starts in 35 games. Chicago s three-game sweep on 5/15-17/15 at Oakland was its fi rst at The Coliseum since 5/16-18/97. HOME OPENER PREVIEW The White Sox home opener on Friday vs. Cleveland (3:10 p.m. CT) is sold out the Sox are all-time in home openers and have won 12 of their last 14. John Rzeznik, lead singer of the Goo Goo Dolls, will perform the National Anthem on Friday, while local music artist Chance The Rapper will throw out a ceremonial fi rst pitch. WHITE SOX VS. OAKLAND The White Sox lead the season series, 2-0, after winning the fi rst two games of this series. The Sox have won 13 of their last 18 games overall against the A's, including six in a row at The Coliseum after losing the previous seven. Chicago went 5-2 against Oakland last season (3-0 at The Coliseum) and have won back-to-back season series ( ) against the A s for the fi rst time since The White Sox trail the all-time series, they are at home (88-82 at U.S. Cellular Field) and on the road. FAMILIAR FACES This series marks the return of shortstop Jimmy Rollins and coaches Todd Steverson and Greg Sparks to the Bay Area. Rollins graduated in 1996 from Encinal High School in Alameda and was selected by Philadelphia in the second round of the 1996 draft. Steverson worked nine seasons in the Oakland organization, including two as the A s fi rst base coach and two as the minorleague hitting coordinator. Sparks spent 19 seasons ( ) in the Athletics organization, including nine as the minor-league hitting coordinator. A BUSY OFFSEASON The White Sox Opening Day roster featured eight players who were acquired in the offseason, compared to 12 in C Alex Avila (11/25), C Dioner Navarro (12/4), RHP Mat Latos (2/9), SS Jimmy Rollins (2/22) and OF Austin Jackson (3/7) were signed as free agents. INF Brett Lawrie (12/9 from Oakland) and INF Todd Frazier (12/16 from Cincinnati) were acquired via trade INF/OF Jerry Sands (12/23 from Cleveland) was claimed off waivers. QUALITY IS JOB ONE The White Sox have made 1,158 quality starts since the start of the 2003 season, the second-highest total in the major leagues behind the Mets (1,164). The Sox led the American League with 98 quality starts in 2015, their highest total since 2003 (also 98) Jose Quintana (2nd, 25) and Chris Sale (5th, 23) ranked second and fi fth in the AL in ABREU IN ELITE COMPANY Jose Abreu ( ) and Albert Pujols ( ) are the only players in major-league history to record 30-plus home runs and 100-plus RBI in each of his fi rst two seasons. Abreu batted.290 with 30 homers and 101 RBI last season after hitting.317 with 36 and 107 as a rookie in Pujols accomplished the feat in each of his fi rst 10 seasons before the streak ended in HONORING EDDIE The White Sox mourn the loss of sports broadcasting legend and long-time club executive Eddie Einhorn, who passed away on 2/23/16 from complications involving a stroke. Einhorn, who was 80 years old, served as vice chairman of the White Sox for 25 years and was the team s president and chief operating offi cer from he also was a member of the Chicago Bulls board of directors.
