Oklahoma State Oklahoma State is 14-6 on the season and will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak when it hosts Florida Gulf Coast Tuesday and Wednesday at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium. Both games are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. starts. The midweek contests against the Eagles will be the first ever between the Cowboys and FGCU. OSU head coach Frank Anderson is in his seventh season at the helm of the Cowboys and has led the club to 247 wins in his career. The Pokes are coming off a season in which they finished and advanced to the finals of the NCAA Clemson Regional. With that showing, OSU became the only Big 12 Conference team to advance to a Regional championship round each of the last four seasons. OSU leads the Big 12 with a.346 team batting average, with seven of the Cowboy regulars in the starting lineup hitting.300 or better, and the pitching staff sports a collective 4.80 ERA. About Florida Gulf Coast Florida Gulf Coast is 14-8 on the season, with three of their losses coming against ranked teams. The Eagles have won the Atlantic Sun Conference regular season championship each of the last two seasons. FGCU is hitting.354 as a team, with Zach Maxfield s.408 average leading the way. The pitching staff has a combined 5.08 ERA. Up Next For The Cowboys OSU, which will play 10 of its next 11 games at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium has been home to Oklahoma State baseball since 1981, and in those 29 seasons the Cowboys have been nearly unbeatable on their home field. The Cowboys are (.824) all-time at Reynolds Stadium and have lost more than two consecutive games on their home turf only once (six in a row in May 2007). OSU is 11-1 at home in Club With the Cowboys 2009 season-opening win over BYU, Frank Anderson became the fifth head coach in OSU history to reach 200 career victories. He is the third-fastest coach to reach the milestone in Stillwater behind Gary Ward and Tom Holliday. Anderson is in his seventh season at OSU and owns an overall career record of , which includes an mark in Big 12 play. New Faces OSU s 2010 roster includes 17 newcomers, with eight freshmen and eight junior college transfers and one player who is starting his collegiate baseball career as a junior. Four of the Cowboy newcomers were selected in last June s Major League Baseball Draft: Kevin Chambers (47th round by Detroit), Andrew Heaney (24th round by Tampa Bay), Dane Phillips (49th round by Seattle) and Nico Rosthenhausler (50th round by Detroit). Among the highlights in the freshman class are Heaney, a southpaw hurler; Chambers, a versatile player who could see time at first base, in the outfield and on the mound; and Phillips, a high school All-American who is the Cowboys starting DH. The group of JUCO newcomers includes Rosthenhausler, an offensive star at South Mountain Community College, and Devin Shines, the son of former major leaguer Razor Shines, who is an assistant coach with the New York Mets. Hot Hitters Oklahoma State leads the Big 12 in hitting with a.346 batting average and is also tops in the league with a.531 slugging percentage. The Cowboys rank second in on-base percentage (.419) and doubles (65) and third in runs (184) and hits (252). Freshman Dane Phillips ranks second in the Big 12 with a.427 batting average and is currently on a 14-game hitting streak. Phillips has hit safely in 18 of OSU s 20 games. JUCO transfer Luis Uribe was named to the Dairy Queen Classic All-Tournament Team last month and is tied for 14th in the Big 12 with a.375 batting average. Mark Ginther, a sophomore third baseman, is hitting.360, is tied for the team lead with four homers and and ranks second with 25 RBIs. He leads the Cowboys and is sixth in the Big 12 with an.663 slugging percentage. In six games last week, junior catcher Kevin David raised his season batting average 79 points after going 12-for-27 (.444) with two home runs and nine RBIs. He is tied for the team lead in homers and is third with 22 RBIs. Cowboys In The Clutch OSU is hitting.406 with runners in scoring position this season. The Cowboys also sport a.322 average with two outs and have collected 57 two-out RBIs. No Thanks A trio of Cowboys from last season s club was selected in the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft but spurned pro ball to return to Stillwater. Tyler Lyons was a 10th-round pick of the New York Yankees, Thomas Keeling was a 20th-round choice of the Yankees and Kevin David was selected in the 35th round by the Chicago Cubs. Eleven players on the OSU roster have been Major League Baseball Draft picks. That marks the second-highest total in the Big 12, trailing only Texas 13. Double Zero OSU s back-to-back shutout wins against Alabama A&M (26-0 and 4-0) marked the first time the Cowboys had accomplished that feat since consecutive shutout wins against Texas Tech on May 12 and May 13, Six different Cowboy pitchers combined for the shutouts. The Cowboys are on their way to becoming the first OSU team to top 100 steals since the 1999 team had 117. OSU s highest stolen base total since 99 is 90, which came in From , OSU topped the century mark in steals 11 times, including a schoolrecord 190 thefts in Awards Watch Several Cowboys have been recognized as candidates for 2010 awards, including: Lowe s Senior CLASS Award Tyler Lyons Johnny Bench Award Watch List Kevin David NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award Watch List Randy McCurry (now injured & out for season) Lyons Share Tyler Lyons has established himself as one of the Big 12 s best and most consistent hurlers, and the Cowboys pitching staff received a huge boost when he decided to return to Stillwater for his senior season. Lyons, who led OSU in wins each of the last two seasons and sports a career 3.77 ERA in 56 appearances, was a 10th-round draft pick of the New York Yankees last June but spurned a professional career to continue as the ace of the Cowboys staff. A seven-game winner last season, Lyons was an All-Big 12 Second Team pick in 2008 as a sophomore after compiling a 12-2 mark and 3.31 ERA to go along with 92 strikeouts. In 15 starts, he led the Big 12 with innings pitched and tied for the league lead with four complete games. Lyons 12 wins tied for fourth nationally in His win total also marked the eighthmost wins in a single season in OSU history, and the most by a Cowboy hurler since In Big 12 play, Lyons was 7-1 with a 2.99 ERA and four complete games in 12 starts. Lyons earned NCAA Regional All- Tournament Team honors each of the last two years ( 08 Stillwater Reg., 09 Clemson Reg.). Lyons Climbing The Charts Tyler Lyons is poised to finish his OSU career with his name scattered throughout the Cowboys pitching record book. A native of Lubbock, Texas, Lyons is 21-8 in his OSU career, one win shy of moving into the top 10 on the Cowboys career list. Lyons already ranks ninth on OSU s career innings pitched list with and is 10th on OSU s career strikeouts list with 218. Lyons next start on the mound will be the 36th of his career, which will move him into the 10th spot on the Cowboys career list. The southpaw is also on the verge of cracking the top 10 on the Cowboys career list for appearances as his 56 are nine shy of that mark. Big 12 s Best Baseball America lists Tom Belza as the best pure hitter in the Big 12 Conference in 2010, and it s easy to see why after his first two seasons in Stillwater. The Cowboy infielder led OSU in hitting each of the last two years and entered 10 with a career.363 batting average in 108 games. Belza burst onto the scene as a freshman, moving into the starting lineup early in the 2008 conference season and quickly proved to be a slick fielder and dependable hitter. A native of Loveland, Ohio, Belza led the Big 12 with a.386 batting average in 08 and collected three or more hits in 10 games, including a 6-for-6, six-run, five-rbi effort against Arkansas-Pine Bluff in March. The sixhit performance tied OSU and Big 12 records, and the six runs also tied the school mark. Named a Freshman All-American by Louisville Slugger, Belza also earned All-Big 12 Second Team honors and was named to the NCAA Stillwater Regional All-Tournament Team. After spending his freshman campaign at second base, Belza spent the majority of his time at shortstop in Once again, he paced the Cowboys in hitting, this time with a.346 average. Belza ended the 09 season on a 12-game hitting streak and had a memorable performance at the NCAA Clemson Regional, where he was 7-for-14 with four homers and nine RBIs in four games and earned All-Tournament Team honors. Included in that performance was an opening round game against Alabama that saw him tie a school record with three home runs. Belza was a prep star at Cincinnati s famed Moeller High, which produced the likes of Ken Griffey Jr. and Barry Larkin. OKLAHOMA S TA TE 3

He hit.311 and was second in the Big 12 with 23 doubles. A native of Baton Rouge, La., David finished third on the Cowboys with 47 RBIs, and he turned in a pair of seven-rbi games (vs. Western Illinois and Arkansas-Pine Bluff). David earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors on March 16 after a six-game stretch in which he hit.542 (13-for-24) with five doubles, a triple, a home run and 12 RBIs. He also scored five runs, walked seven times and had a.958 slugging percentage. During the six-game stretch, David collected multiple hits five times and also had RBIs in five of the six games. K Is For Keeling Cowboy junior Thomas Keeling continues to rack up strikeouts at an impressive rate. Keeling leads OSU with 41 strikeouts and has had at least nine Ks in four of his five appearances this season. With 41 Ks in 27 innings, Keeling is averaging strikeouts per nine innings in Keeling s strikeout total ranks seventh in the Big 12, and each of the pitchers above him has at least one more outing than the Cowboy. As a redshirt sophomore last season, Keeling recorded 73 strikeouts in just 51.0 innings. His strikeouts per nine innings would have ranked fourth nationally had he had three more innings of work to qualify for the NCAA minimum. In 79.2 career innings, Keeling has racked up 116 strikeouts. He had a career-high 12 Ks last season at Arizona. Strong Armed Pitching depth is one of OSU s biggest strengths this season. Several veterans have combined with a talented group of newcomers to bolster the rotation in Brad Propst - In his first-career start in the series finale vs. UMass, Propst tossed a complete game shutout. In seven appearances this season, the junior right-hander is 1-1 with a save and 3.06 ERA. In his first season at OSU in 2009, Propst appeared in 15 games on the mound, all in relief, and was 1-1 with a 2.20 ERA. In 28.2 innings of work, he recorded 25 strikeouts. Matt Peck - Peck redshirted due to injury last season but appears to have returned to the form that saw him go 2-1 with five saves and a 2.83 ERA in 25 appearances in The senior right-hander is 3-1 with a save in seven appearances this season. Mike Strong - A JUCO transfer, Strong has made six appearances, including a pair of starts, and is 3-0 with a 1.83 ERA. A lefty, Strong has recorded 27 strikeouts in 19 innings and opponents are hitting just.194 against him. Kevin Chambers - A freshman southpaw, Chambers is 3-1 in six appearances, including three starts. In 20 innings of work, Chambers has 27 strikeouts. ReKord Setters Pitchers Kevin Chambers and Brian Denneny combined to break an OSU record that had stood for nearly 46 years with their performances in the second game of a March 23 doubleheader against Alabama A&M. The Chambers-Denneny duo combined for 20 strikeouts, breaking OSU s previous singlegame record last set on April 25, 1964 in a 14- inning game against Kansas. Chambers started and racked up 15 Ks, tying the Allie P. Reynolds Stadium record and finishing just one shy of OSU s single-game record of 16 (set by Derek Brandow against Iowa State in the 1992 Big Eight Tournament). Chambers had 15 strikeouts in just six innings of work, while Denneny added five over the final three frames. The Thief Junior second baseman Davis Duren leads the Big 12 with 16 stolen bases. Against Oklahoma Christian, Duren swiped four bags, the most by a Cowboy since 2004 and one shy of the school s single-game record. Last season, Duren was 14-of-15 on stolen base attempts to lead the Cowboys. From his leadoff spot in the lineup, Duren also leads the Cowboys with 27 RBIs and is third in batting average (.367). Duren s recent 14-game hitting streak is tied for the fourth longest in the Big 12 this season. OKLAHOMA S TA TE 4

McCurry tied OSU s single-season record with 10 saves in In a team-high 28 appearances as a freshman, he was also 4-1 with a team-best 2.16 ERA and 54 strikeouts in 41.2 innings of work. Aluminum Assault Over the last several seasons, OSU has established itself among the top hitting teams not only in the Big 12 Conference but also on a national scale. In 2009, the Cowboys ranked among the Big 12 s best in batting average (third at.300), triples (second with 21), home runs (third with 81) and slugging percentage (second at.503). OSU returns leading hitter Tom Belza from last season s club, along with Kevin David and Mark Ginther, both of who hit over.300. Belza and David also ranked second and third on the team in RBIs last season. OSU led the Big 12 in three offensive categories in 2008 batting average (.326), slugging percentage (.531) and home runs (89). The Cowboys finished second in the league in runs, hits, triples and RBIs. In 06, OSU led the Big 12 in homers, triples and slugging percentage, and in 2007 the Cowboys led the Big 12 in six offensive categories and ranked second in two more. Kings Of The Hill OSU also continued a trend of having one of the league s most reliable pitching staffs in Four different Cowboy hurlers had at least five wins in 2009, and the pitching staff ranked third in the Big 12 in saves (15), strikeouts (516) and batting average against (.264). The good news is that OSU s pitching staff returns 56 percent of its wins from last season, and pitchers who combined for 14 of the Cowboys 15 saves. OSU returns pitchers who accounted for 255 strikeouts last season, as well as returning five of its six hurlers with the lowest ERAs (min. 10 appearances). In 2008, the Cowboys led the Big 12 with a 3.98 team ERA and also topped the league with 21 saves. OSU s 3.98 ERA marked the only the second time since 1974 that the Cowboys finished the season with a team ERA under 4.00 (also did it in 2005). Vote For Cowboy Greats To commemorate the final year of the College World Series being played in Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium in 2010, the NCAA is creating a CWS Legends Team, and six former OSU Cowboys are nominated for the team. The Legends Team will represent those student-athletes who had the best CWS performances in the 60 years the CWS has been played at Rosenblatt Stadium. OSU s nominees for the team are third baseman Robin Ventura ( ), catcher Mike Day ( ), designated hitter Pete Incaviglia ( ), outfielder Wayne Weatherly ( ), pitcher Tom Borland ( ) and shortstop Danny Thompson (1968). Fans can vote online for players they think should be selected as members of the CWS Legends team at Short Hops The Cowboys have committed just 10 errors this season and sport a league-leading.987 fielding percentage. OSU set a school record with a.976 fielding percentage in OSU s eight-game winning streak earlier this month was its longest since the Cowboys won 12 in a row during the 2008 season. Frank Anderson ranks fourth on OSU s all-time coaching wins list with 247. He is 34 wins shy of third-place Tom Holiday s 281 victories. OKLAHOMA S TA TE 5
