Ths s a great way for players to get exposure to many schools at once and learn more about the college recrutng process. 2 Newsletter Ttle Page 2 Rchmond County Baseball Club Newsletter Tournament Update Fall 2016/ Sprng 2017 Prospects For anyone nterested n jonng Rchmond County Baseball who mssed the August tryout dates, they should submt the Regstraton Interest form on the RCBC webste ( Prospectve new players wll be nvted to one of the team practces after Labor Day for ther tryout. Spread the word. Wth 17 tournament champonshps ths year and countng, RCBC s the place to be! Ran resulted n the cancellaton of the Summer Slugfest tournament. In the Summer Szzler, the Brooklyn Bombers won the 16U dvson whle the Ht n Run Outlaws took home the ttle n 13U. And n our summer fnale, the 14U Battle Of The Island, the Rockland As defeated the RCBC Natonals. September starts our fall schedule whch features Perfect Game (PGBA and PG Super25) events. Remember that teams move up to the next age level startng September 1. Wnners of the PG Super25 Super Qualfers receve a pad berth to the 2017 Perfect Game Natonal Champonshps. If you want to voce a comment on anythng I wrte, emal me at mkelope19@aol.com 2016 RCBC COLLEGE SHOWCASE It ran lke clockwork. It was well organzed and well attended. The weather (though hot) cooperated. The felds were mmaculate. The lunch delcous. I am talkng about the annual md-august event at Rchmond County where players perform n front of college coaches n hopes of gettng recruted. Ths year s showcase had 60 teenagers beng observed by 30 college coaches. They represented schools that were Dvson I, Dvson 2, Dvson 3 and Junor College. The coach that supervsed the Showcase was Phl Cundar, the Assocate Head Coach at Seton Hall Unversty. The Showcase s a two day event. On the frst day, the players do skll work. After beng tmed n the 60 yard dash, the players are dvded nto ther prmary postons whether t be ptcher, nfeld, outfeld, catcher. They go to dfferent felds where they are taught by the college coaches n ther group the proper way to play ther poston. The coaches lecture and then run the drlls. Players come away wth expert teachng. An nfeld-outfeld or I-O as ts now called, s done so all the recruters can start evaluatng whch players top the lst as recruts. All the players took battng practce that frst day and the ptchers threw a bullpen to see who stuck out. Each coach addressed the entre group as well. They gave ther name, ther school, and explaned what requrements would be needed to attend ther respectve school. Each coach also had words of advce and motvaton for the players to take away from the Showcase. Day two s domnated by games as the players are dvded nto teams. Now the recruters can see how the players perform n game stuatons. The RCBC Showcase gves ts players a good startng pont n the chaotc world of college recrutng. The coaches have the players full nformaton f they choose to pursue the recrut. Up close and personal benefts both partes. Coach DeFends and Coach Qunn, wth loads of help from Jm Russo and Chrstna Flashner, do a great job. And the results are comng n. Star rght-hander Vncent Vtacco has commtted to Rder Unversty n the MAAC conference and we wll soon be salutng Travs Zurta who wll attend West Pont. What an honor to have an Army commt n our program!
