The Lane Train honored OF Lane Thomas was named on Thursday as a Texas League Postseason All-Star, serving as Springfield s representative on the exclusive roster that recognizes the top eight position players and six pitchers from throughout the league. The 22 year old had a terrific season in Springfield before being promoted to AAA-Memphis on 7/27, hitting.260 with a team-best 22 home runs and 67 RBIs while adding 16 doubles and 13 steals in 100 Double-A games. In the midst of a career-year, the first-year Cardinal also represented Springfield and St. Louis in the Texas League All-Star Game as a Midseason All-Star and was named the Texas League Player of the Week for June Fall Ball Major League Baseball has announced rosters for the 2018 Arizona Fall League, with eight 2018 Springfield Cardinals selected to represent St. Louis in the prestigious prospect showcase OF Lane Thomas, INF Tommy Edman, INF Andy Young, C Jeremy Martinez, RHP Conner Greene, RHP Connor Jones, LHP Evan Kruczynski and RHP Andrew Morales. OK Jose INF Jose Martinez s two-run single on Saturday extended his current five-game hitting streak, during which he is batting.316 (6x19) with two doubles and five RBIs. The 22 year old s streak comes after a challenging beginning to his Double-A career, which opened with an 0x33 stretch through his first 15 games. Double Double 3B Evan Mendoza has doubled in each of his last two games, continuing a strong finish to the Regular Season for the 22 year old. With hits in five of his last six games, Mendoza is batting.217 (5x23) with two doubles and two RBIs. With an active final stretch, he has scored a run in each of his last five games, touching home a total of six times during that time period. Hello, Herrera C Ivan Herrera is slated to make his Double-A debut this evening after joining Springfield from the Gulf Coast League Cardinals (Rookie) on Thursday. Just 18 years old, Herrera has done nothing but hit in rookie ball so far, batting.348 (39x112) with a homer and 25 RBIs in 28 games in the GCL this year, after being named a Baseball America Dominican Summer League All-Star last season when he hit.335 (57x170) with a home run, 15 doubles and 27 RBIs in 49 games for the DSL Cardinals last year. Born on 6/1/2000, he becomes the first-ever player born in the 21 st century to suit up for Springfield. He was signed by St. Louis on 7/7/16 as a 16 year old, after being named the MVP of the U16 Pan Am Baseball Championship earlier that year.
