1 FISH BITES The Marlins continue their only 10-game homestand this season looking to sweep this three-game set against the New York Mets today at 1:10 p.m. Dan Straily, making is 12th start of the season, has compiled a 1-1 record and 3.04 ERA (26.2 ip/9 er) in five career starts against the Mets. New York is starting LHP Steven Matz, who in five career starts against the Marlins has gone 2-2 with a 3.67 ERA (27.0/11). Miami recently completed a 10-day, nine-game road trip to Baltimore (2-1), San Francisco (1-2), and Colorado (2-1). The current homestand began with the Marlins dropping three of four to Arizona, and will continue with a three-game series against the Rays (July 2-4). The Marlins have only four series over the remainder of the season that will not be against an NL or AL East opponent: Milwaukee (July 9-11 at home), St. Louis (August 6-8 at home), Pittsburgh (Sept. 7-9 at PNC Park), and Cincinnati (Sept at home). LAST NIGHT'S RECAP Miami overcame another multi-run deficit to take the second game of this three-game series, 5-2. With only two hits and trailing 2-0 going into the home half of the sixth, Brian Anderson connected for a two-run home run to tie the game, and JT Riddle singled home another to put the Marlins on top, 3-2. J.T. Realmuto provided some insurance in the seventh, as he doubled home Cameron Maybin and Anderson to round out the scoring. Starlin Castro recorded his sixth game with three-or-more hits, finishing 3x4. Pablo López earned the win in his Major League debut, holding the Mets to two runs on six hits with a walk and five strikeouts over 6.0 innings. Kyle Barraclough tossed a perfect ninth for his eighth save. VS. THE METS The 2018 series is tied at 4-all, with all of Miami's wins coming in the last four games. Continuing today, the next four games between the two clubs will take place here at Marlins Park (also Aug ), before the schedule shifts to Citi Field where the final seven games of the series will be played. The Marlins trail the all-time series against the Mets, , which includes a mark in South Florida (32-30 at Marlins Park). Miami is looking to sweep New York for the first time since Sept , 2017, and a win today would mark just the fifth sweep of the Mets at home. UP NEXT The 2018 Citrus Series kicks off tomorrow with the first of three games against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays. The season series will wrap up after the All-Star Break, as the intra-state rivals open the unofficial second half with three games at Tropicana Field from July The Marlins dropped the 2017 Citrus Series, 1-3, with the only win coming on May 3 at the Trop. Miami is against Tampa bay in South Florida, including a 4-10 mark at Marlins Park, and trail the all-time series A COUPLE OF ZEROES Kyle Barraclough (12.0 ip) and Drew Steckenrider (12.1) combined to toss 24.1 scoreless innings in the month of June. The pair are the first set of teammates to each toss 12.0-or-more scoreless innings in a calendar month since David Robertson (15.0) and Aroldis Chapman (12.0) in Sept They are just the second pair since 1920 to do so in the month of June, joining Seattle's Charlie Furbush (17.0) and Tom Wilhelmsen (15.2) in Additionally, they became the seventh and eighth relievers (eighth and ninth time) in Club history to toss as many as 12.0 innings without allowing a run in a calendar month, joining Justin Wayne (April 2004, 12.0 ip), Robb Nen (May 1996, 14.0 & August 1995, 13.2), Chad Qualls (July 2013, 12.0), Brad Ziegler (August 2017, 13.0), Braden Looper (Sept. 2002, 15.0), and Clay Hensley (Sept. 2010, 12.2). Additionally, Steckenrider became the first pitcher in Club history to make 14-or-more appearances in a calendar month without allowing a run. SMALL STEP FOR MAN, GIANT LEAP FOR MIAMI Sandy Alcantara earned his first Major League win in his first career start on Friday, and Pablo López followed suit yesterday in his Major League debut. The pair became the first set of teammates to earn wins in their first career starts in consecutive days since April 9-10, 2012, when Yu Darvish and Neftali Feliz each made their first career starts with the Rangers. The last National League team to have such a duo was the Reds on April 15-16, 1967 with Gary Nolan and Mel Queen. - Stats LLC TURNING THINGS AROUND The Marlins went in the month of June, their best month of the season so far. Seven of those 14 wins were in comeback fashion, and five of those wins saw the Marlins overcome deficits of two-or-more runs. Miami has gone over its last 27 home games, with wins in six of the last 10, and have improved drastically over a 3-10 record through the first 13 here at Marlins Park. HEATING UP WITH SUMMER The Marlins had the fifth-highest batting average (.255) and were fourth in hits (248) among National League teams in the month of June. The Marlins ranked second in triples (7), tied for third in doubles (52), and eighth in runs scored (117). Individually, Derek Dietrich finished the month sixth in the NL in average (.344), behind Paul Goldschmidt (.364), Albert Almora Jr. (.363), Kurt Suzuki (.360), Gerardo Parra (.354), and Michael A. Taylor (.349). NOT TO BE OUTDONE Miami's bullpen was been one of the best in the NL this month, compiling a 5-2 record with eight saves in eight opportunities and a 2.98 ERA (117.2 ip/39 er). The Marlins 'pen was the only one with a save percentage of 100%, they led the league in innings pitched, rank third in average against (.206), and ranked third in ERA, behind San Francisco (2.33) and Arizona (2.59). CEASE AND DESIST ORDERS Kyle Barraclough and Drew Steckenrider have both posted career-best scoreless inning streaks, as Barraclough has tossed 20.2 scoreless, and Steckenrider pitching 15.2 consecutive scoreless frames. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it is the first time in Club history that two relief pitchers have had active scoreless streaks of 14.0-plus innings at the same time. He is still in the midst of a careerlong scoreless streak of 20.2 innings over his last 21 appearances. He is making his second start of the season against the Metropolitans. He did not factor in the decision in a 2-1 win for Miami at Citi Field on May 23, despite allowing just one run on four hits and three walks over 6.0 innings, with five strikeouts. He is 1-1 with a 3.04 ERA (26.2 ip/9 er) in five starts all-time against the Mets. All three of his starts against them in 2017 came here at Marlins Park. Miami went 3-0 in those outings, while Straily was 1-0 with a 1.76 ERA (15.1/3), and a.148 (8x54) average against.
