THE NEW GUY: Since his call-up from Single-A Charleston, Dom Thompson-Williams has immediately made his presence known. The 23-year-old had 2HR and 5RBI in his first three games with the Tarpons. DTW began the season with the RiverDogs and, despite a month on the disabled list, batted.378/.425/.811 (14-for-37) with 7R, 1 double, 5HR, 9RBI, 2BB and 3SB in 10 games. The Sioux City, Iowa native hit all five homers in a two-day span, slugging 2HR on 5/13 before adding 3HR in a doubleheader on 5/15 (2HR in G1). WALK THIS WAY: With two more walks on Thursday, Hoy Jun Park is now tied for first in the Florida State League with 28 bases on balls. Park has hit safely in six of his last seven games, batting.409 (9-for-22) in that span. The 22-year-old is also tied for fourth in the league with 11 stolen bases. GO, DIEGO, GO: Diego Castillo has hit safely in 11 of his last 15 games, batting.314 (16-for-51) in that span. The 20-year-old is also one of the toughest to strike out in the league, averaging 9.18 TPA/SO (3rd lowest in the FSL). VS. FLORIDA: Tonight will be the eighth of 14 scheduled meetings between the Tampa Tarpons and Florida Fire Frogs. Florida currently leads the seasonseries, 4-3. The Tarpons are 1-3 at Osceola County Stadium. Diego Castillo is batting.316 (6-for-19, 2R, 2B, 2RBI, BB) in five games against the Fire Frogs. Tampa batters are hitting just.189 against Fire Frog pitching. GREAT FIRST IMPRESSION: After posting a 1.13 ERA in 40.0IP with Single-A Charleston, RHP Garrett Whitlock earned a promotion to Tampa. While with the RiverDogs, Whitlock logged 26-straight scoreless innings across five starts. That streak ended when the 21-year-old allowed 1ER in 6.0IP in his final start with Charleston on 5/11. Whitlock began a new run on Friday in Lakeland, tossing 6.0 shutout innings in a no-decision against the Flying Tigers. The Snellville, Georgia native scattered five hits and one walk while tallying eight strikeouts. A WALK-OFF...WHAT? The Tarpons won, 3-2, on Tuesday thanks to a game-ending catcher's interference call with the bases loaded in the 10th inning. Tampa and Charlotte took a 1-1 tie into extras and the Stone Crabs scored a run in the top of the 10th. A walk and a single loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the frame for Tampa. After a game-tying RBI single by Alexander Palma, the winning run scored when Dom Thompson-Williams swung late and clipped the glove of Charlotte catcher Zacrey Law. DTW had also reached on catcher's interference in the 6th inning of the game. PERFECT ERA SNAPPED : After not allowing an earned run over his first 11 appearances of the season, RHP Matt Wivinis was tagged with one on Monday (1.0IP, 3H, 2R/1ER, 0BB, 1K). The right-hander had pitched to a 0.00 ERA in 8.2IP with Single-A Charleston before tossing 3.0 scoreless frames in his first two games with Tampa. Wivinis is 3-0 and 17-for-17 in save opportunities while posting a 0.83 ERA (4ER/43.1IP) in 31 relief appearances in his career in the minors ALL-STAR WEEKEND TICKETS ON SALE NOW: For the first time in franchise history, Tampa will play host to the Florida State League All-Star Game. Neither the original Tarpons nor the Tampa Yankees had ever hosted the event.
