THE DUFFSTER--Danny Duffy continued his strong post-disabled list work last night with 6.0 innings of one-run, three-hit ball, though his 101 pitches thrown prevented him from being around for a decision...since coming off the shelf on June 24 after a bout of left biceps tendinitis, Duff has gone 2-1 with a 2.15 ERA in six starts, allowing nine earned runs in 37.2 innings...he has been just short of spectacular in his last three assignments, going 2-0 with a 0.90 ERA, giving up only two earned runs in 20.0 innings while limiting the opposition to a collecting.194 batting average (13-for-67). THE LAND OF HOZ--Eric Hosmer just missed a walk-off home run in the ninth inning last night, settling for a triple that bounced off the top of the leftfield fence...the knock gave him an 8-game hitting streak in which the two-time Rawlings Gold Glove first baseman has batted.484 (15-for-31) with a double, two triples, homer, four RBI and a OPS...a 5-for-31 slide from June 28-July 7 dropped his season average to.280, but he has since hit safely in 12 of 14 games at a.436 clip (24-for-55) with a OPS. THE BRUISE CREW--The Royals haven t been plunked in the last three games, but were hit six times during the series against the Pirates to extend Kansas City s American League lead in bruises to 51...Alex Gordon, who has been out a couple weeks and will remain out for some time due to a left groin strain, is tied for the A.L. lead with 12 plunkings, one more than his previous career high established last year...mike Moustakas was hit for the ninth and 10th times this year in last Monday night s game vs. Pittsburgh and has climbed to fourth in the league...last year s club was hit 53 times, but the 2015 Royals are currently on a pace to get his 86 times, which would be three shy of the club record set in 2007 (89).
