SALVY TURNS BAT INTO BROOM--As Elmer Fudd would say, the Royals are no longer Sweepwess in Seattle as Kansas City swept its first 3-game set in the Emerald City since 2010 with a 9-6, 10-inning win on Wednesday night...salvador Perez clubbed a opposite field 2-run homer to snap a 6-6 deadlock and then Alex Gordon followed with an RBI knock to insure the win...the Kansas City bullpen made it all possible with 5.0 near perfect innings, allowing only a walk and hit before retiring the final 10 Mariners faced...mike Minor continued his phenomenal return after nearly two years of game work, retiring all three men he faced to run his record to 5-1, while Kelvin Herrera tossed a perfect 10th for his 19th save...kc jumped out to a 4-0 lead before the M s came to the plate, with Eric Hosmer doubling home two runs and then Mike Moustakas hammering his 25th home run, a 2-run shot...unfortunately, Jason Vargas, the league s leading winner and at the time leader in ERA, had one of his rougher outings to date, allowing six runs over 5.0 innings, but was extricated from the hook when Lorenzo Cain knotted the score at 6-6 with a 2-run blast in the fifth...the win gave the Royals a mark since June 1, second in the Majors only to tonight s opponent, who has gone MOOSE OFFICIALLY AN ALL-STAR--Pegged earlier in the week to participate in his first-ever Home Run Derby, Mike Moustakas needed the fans to weigh in via popular vote to get to stay in Miami past the Derby...well, 15.6 million fans chimed in and Moose will represent the A.L. next Tuesday night for the game, the second time he has won the Fifth Man Final Vote...his total this year was second only to his running-mate across the diamond this weekend, as Dodgers third sacker Justin Turner won the National League vote with 20.8 million ballots in his favor...with Moustakas now on the squad, he joins teammates Salvador Perez, who was voted to start behind the plate for a fourth time and his fifth overall All-Star appearance and left-handed pitcher Jason Vargas, who was named to his first Midsummer Classic squad...this marks the fifth consecutive year the Royals have had at least three All-Stars. DERBY GOT THE RIGHT GUY--A home run hitter can t be much hotter than Mike Moustakas is going into the final weekend prior to the break and the Home Run Derby, as Moose homered in all three games in Seattle...it s the second time he s gone deep in three straight, also May 8-10, he has hit six home runs in his last eight games and upped his season total to 25, to match Houston s George Springer for second most in the Majors...Moustakas, who prepped just up the road at Chatsworth High, has already broken his personal single-season best of 22 from 2015 and has hit three more home runs prior to the All-Star break than any Royal in history, breaking Jermaine Dye s mark of 22 in Moose remains on a pace that would shatter Kansas City s long-standing club record of 36 roundtrippers hit by Steve Balboni during the 1985 season...his 25 home runs to this point translate to 48 over the remainder of the campaign. POTENT ON THE LEFT COAST--With the 3-game sweep in Seattle, the Royals are now 10-2 in the Pacific Time Zone this year...it all began in mid-june with a 2-1 stop in San Diego, 2-0 in San Francisco, 3-1 in Anaheim and the just completed stop in Safeco...all told, Kansas City is now on the year away from The K, completely flipping the script from a rough 2-11 road start to the year...starting with the first trip of May which was a 3-1 stop in Tampa Bay, the Royals have gone on the road for a.643 winning pct. which ranks second only to Houston s.774 mark (24-7)...more recently, since June 10, Kansas City s 11 road wins lead the Majors. INTERLEAGUE INTERLUDE--The Royals have played only seven games against the senior circuit this year, going 5-2 with 2-1 mark against San Diego and 3-1 vs. the Giants...Kansas City s.642 winning pct. in Interleague play since the start of the 2014 season tops the Majors as the club has gone in that span...work against the N.L. will feature 10 games after the break, with KC slated for three at home vs. Colorado and Arizona and a 4-game home & home session with St. Louis. ACE 30 REMEMBERING YO--The morning of January 22, 2017 will always be remembered as one of the most tragic days in franchise history when word was received that pitcher Yordano Ventura had his life cut short due to a car accident in his native Dominican Republic...signed as a 17-year old in 2008, the fireballing right-hander compiled a during his abbreviated Major League career...among many highlights, Ace will be most remembered for blanking the San Francisco Giants over 7.0 innings in Game #6 of the 2014 World Series to force a seventh and deciding game, while pitching with a heavy heart himself due to the untimely passing of his friend Oscar Tavares...to honor the late Ventura, all uniforms in 2017 will be adorned with the ACE 30 patch.
