In game one, the Generals send LHP James GIllheeney (3-4, 3.84) to the hill against Braves RHP Aaron Northcraft (3-8, 4.17). Game two will pit RHP Gus Schlosser (6-2, 2.36) against Generals LHP Roenis Elias (5-8, 2.87). LAST TIME OUT: For the second straight night, the M-Braves and Generals went to extra innings, but this time it was the Braves who ended up on top. With Christian Marrero standing at second base in the 11th, Mycal Jones stroked a double off the wall to give the Braves the lead for good, going on to win 7-5 on Saturday night at Generals Park. The eleventh capped off a see-saw affair which saw both teams stage a comeback at some point in the contest. Mississippi jumped early for two in the first on Generals starter Trevor Miller, making his double-a debut. Dan Brewer led off with a walk and Christian Bethancourt singled off the wall but was thrown out at second trying to stretch it to a double. Brewer scored when Tommy La Stella blistered a line drive back up the middle. Robby Hefflinger then clubbed a triple to left-center, scoring La Stella for a 2-0 Braves lead. The Generals came marching back when Jack Marder hit a three-run home run in the second off Braves starter Ian Thomas. It was Marder s third home run of the season, giving the Generals a 3-2 lead. Jackson made it 4-2 in the third, loading the bases off Thomas when catcher John Hicks drew a walk to force in a run. Thomas was pulled early with a high pitch count, going 2 2/3 innings with four runs on four hits, striking out two and walking four in the no decision. Meanwhile Miller settled in. He faced the minimum from the second to the sixth inning, giving up just one hit in that span. But in the sixth, one swing by Hefflinger changed the game. After Tommy La Stella walked with two outs, Hefflinger crushed a line drive over the left field wall, his fourth double-a home run to tie the game 4-4. He went 4-for-5 on the day with three batted in, falling a double shy of the cycle. The game stayed tied until the eighth when Jackson pushed the go-ahead run across. Hicks singled to lead off and moved around the bases to score on a Denny Almonte slash single up the middle. The Braves weren t finished, as the tying run came across in the ninth to force extras. Jose Martinez led off with a walk against closer Carson Smith. Barrett Kleinknecht replaced him as a pinch runner. Jaime Pedroza followed with a single and Marrero walked to load the bases. Kleinknecht came racing home to tie the game 5-5, setting up the two-run 11th. Pat Egan (5-1) earned the win in relief, shutting out the Generals over the final three innings. Andrew Kittredge (1-3) took the loss in relief. STREAKING: Christian Bethancourt is currently on a 21-game on-base streak, dating back to June 13. During that span, Bethancourt raised his batting average from.242 to.268. He also blasted three homers in two games at Jackson (7/18-19), increasing his season total to a career-high eight home runs. as of 7/20 ALL-STAR GAME: The 2013 Southern League All-Star Game was held at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville on Wednesday, July 17.
