Starter Michael Fulmer picked up his fi h win of the season. He threw 7.0 innings, allowing four runs (3 ER) on 10 hits with no walks and four strikeouts. Trailing 1-0 in the 2nd inning, the Tigers scored twice on a solo homer by Tyler Collins and an RBI single by Ian Kinsler. Balmore plated two runs in the 4th inning and one run in the 5th to take a 4-2 lead. But in the bo om of the 5th, Collins launched another home run, a two-out, three-run shot to give the Tigers a 5-4 lead. Alex Wilson and Jusn Wilson (SV, 3) both pitched 1.0 scoreless inning in relief to lock down the victory. SPOONMAN: Centerfielder Tyler Collins posted his first career mul-home run game and collected a career-high four RBI in leading the Tigers to a 5-4 win over the Orioles on Wednesday. It marked the first me in nearly eight years that a Tigers centerfielder hit mulple homers in a game. The last was Curs Granderson on July 29, 2009 at Texas. MY WAVE: The Tigers have had mul-home run performances from a player in each of their last two games and three of their last four. (J.D. Marnez 2x, Tyler Collins). The last me Detroit had back-to-back games in which a player hit two or more home runs was September 25-26, 2008 vs. TB (Ramon Sanago & Gary Sheffield each hit two). BLACK HOLE SUN: The Tigers will play their 20th day game of the season today (out of 39 G, 51%), ed for most in the majors with the Minnesota Twins (fewest: 10 G, 6 teams ed). The Tigers won nine of their first 14 day games this season (.643), but have lost four of their last five to fall to 10-9 on the season. HUNGER STRIKE: Detroit is looking to complete its first series win over Balmore since May 12-14, 2015 (0-3-1 since) and first home series win vs. the Orioles since April 4-6, 2014 (lost last two series here at Comerica Park, 2-1). LIKE A STONE: A er spli"ng the first two games, Detroit and Balmore will play the final contest of their three-game set today at Comerica Park. The Tigers are 2-2 so far this season in rubber games. OUTSHINED: This weekend, the Tigers will play backto-back games against the Texas Rangers on naonal television. Saturday s game will be aired by FOX, with Jusn Kutcher and C.J. ON THIS DATE IN TIGERS HISTORY: As a replacement player, Allan Travers, a St. Joseph s College pitcher, takes the mound for the Tigers, who are fielding an amateur team to avoid a $5,000 fine due to the team s refusal to play the A s in support of suspended teammate Ty Cobb. In what will be his only major league appearance, the collegiate hurler goes the distance, giving up 24 runs (14 ER), 26 hits, and seven walks, but does strike out one as Philadelphia routs Detroit at Shibe Park, Tigers righthander Jusn Verlander just misses pitching his third career no-hi er when he allows a single to Josh Harrison with one out in the top of the 9th inning. The reigning MVP and Cy Young winner completes the UPCOMING GAME DETAILS one-hi er, beang Pi sburgh, 6-0, in front of a very enthusiasc Friday night crowd at Detroit s Comerica Park.
