Yesterday, Jhoulys Chacin reached his career 1,000.0 inning mark in the fifth inning of his start...he recorded his 12th win, and he owns a 8-3 record at Petco this season and a 1.91 ERA (20 ER, 94.1 IP)... his 1.91 home ERA is the second-best in baseball, trailing only Gio Gonzalez's 1.87 ERA. WINNING WAYS: After series victories against both the Giants and Dodgers, the Padres have won five of their last six games, and since May 21, they own a (.625) record at home and a (.511) record overall...the Padres have won two straight series for the fourth time this season (last: July 4-9), and a series win again against the Cardinals would be the first time the club has won three consecutive series this season. SO WE MEET AGAIN: The Padres host the St. Louis Cardinals for the final series between the two clubs this season...the Redbirds have won seven of their last 10 meetings opposite San Diego, dating back to the start of the 2016 season...the Cardinals are slugging.547 against the Padres in those games, which is higher than against any other NL opponent (STATS)... however, the Padres swiped two of three games in St. Louis earlier this season, marking the first time the Padres have won a series against the Cardinals in St. Louis since July of SOCKS UP: Starter Luis Perdomo gets the ball today against his former organization for the second time this season...he did not receive a decision in the Padres 4-3 win on August 24 at STL, tossing 6.0 innings and allowing one earned run...perdomo has worked at least 6.0 innings in eight straight starts, including quality starts in four of his last five appearances... he has also contributed to his own cause at the plate, hitting three triples in SPREADING THE WEALTH: Since the All-Star break, 10 different Padres have clubbed at least four home runs, tying with the Baltimore Orioles for having the most players with fouror-more homers since the break...the list includes Manuel Margot (8), Wil Myers (8), Cory Spangenberg (8), Jose Pirela (6), Hector Sanchez (5), Yangervis Solarte (5), Carlos Asuaje (4), Jabari Blash (4), Dusty Coleman (4) and Hunter Renfroe (4)...San Diego has played 49 games since the All-Star break, but in 88 games prior, only nine Padres managed to hit four-or-more home runs (STATS). THE 'PEN IS MIGHTIER THAN THE SWORD: In their last 20 games (since August 13), the Padres bullpen has posted a 2.81 ERA, which ranks second in the NL and fifth in the majors... Padres relievers also rank second in baseball over that stretch in opponent average (.231). PADRES ON DECK: On Sunday night for Triple-A El Paso, RF Hunter Renfroe hit a firstinning grand slam, and C Tony Cruz hit a two-run homer to propel the Chihuahuas to a 7-3 win at Sacramento, clinching a third straight Pacific Coast League Pacific Southern title... Renfroe went 3-for-4 with his fourth home run and four RBI...the Chihuahuas have won eight of their last nine games.. For Single-A Fort Wayne, 3B Hudson Potts went 3-for-5 with his 20th homer and five RBI, and 2B Reinaldo Ilarraza went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases and three RBI...the win clinched the homefield advantage for the first round of the Midwest League playoffs. CF Michael Gettys went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI, and LF Rod Boykin went 3-for-5 with a triple, one RBI and four runs scored as Advanced Single-A topped Rancho Cucamonga DATES IN PADRES HISTORY: On September 4, 1970, starter RHP Mike Corkins hit a grand slam while allowing two runs over 7.0 innings, and OF Cito Gaston went 4-for-6 with a double, a homer and three RBI as the Padres scored a 15-2 victory over the divisionleading Reds in Cincinnati...on September 4, 2004, Tony Gwynn s No. 19 was retired by the Padres during ceremonies at Petco Park. 2 TODAY S STARTER #61- LUIS PERDOMO - RHP WE LOVE LUIS: 24-year-old Luis Perdomo takes the mound today for his 25th start of the season, 14th at home, and second this season against the St. Louis Cardinals...his 24 starts this season eclipses his previous career high start total of 20 from last season, when he made a total of 35 appearances for the Padres. Has worked at least 6.0 innings in eight straight starts and he has worked 5.0 innings-or-more in 21 of his 24 starts this season. Worked 6.0 innings of two-run ball in his outing on 8/24 at STL, allowing seven hits and two walks but did not factor into the Padres 4-3 victory. It will be his third career appearance (second start) against the Cardinals, the organization who originally signed him as a non-drafted free agent on November 28, in 2015, Perdomo was selected by Colorado in the first round of the 2015 Rule 5 Draft and then acquired by the Padres in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations. THE GROUNDER GAMES: Leads all Major League pitchers with a 62.4 ground ball percentage (minimum innings pitched)...teammates Clayton Richard (59.5) and Jhoulys Chacin (50.3) rank third and 14th, respectively. Has forced opponents to ground into 25 double plays this season, which ranks tied for first in the National League with Richard and tied for third in the Majors. Ranks first among all MLB pitchers with at least innings pitched with a 1.67 opponent ground into double play per nine innings ratio. SWING IT, LUIS: In his outing on 7/22 at SF, he hit a two-run triple in the top of the fourth...it was his third triple in just 24 at-bats on the season, becoming the first Padre in club history to hit three triples in one season. Perdomo s three triples in his 24-at bats were more than all other Major League pitchers in their combined 2,837 at-bats at that time...chc Jake Arrieta and PHI Jeremy Hellickson are the only other Major League pitchers to record a triple so far this season, resulting in Perdomo having more triples than all other MLB pitchers in their current combined 3,888 at-bats. The last pitcher in MLB history to hit three triples in a season was Dontrelle Willis of the Marlins in the last pitcher to hit four triples in a season was PHI Robin Roberts in Recorded two extra-base hits in a game for the first time in his career on 5/15 at MIL his RBI triple in the second inning was the first triple of his career and he became the first Padre hurler to hit a three-bagger since Tyson Ross on 6/20/15 vs. ARI. HAT TRICK: Perdomo recorded a win in three consecutive starts from 6/23-7/5, the longest such streak of his career and one of only three Padres to record a win in three straight so far this season (also, Chacin, 7/20-8/1 and Lamet, 7/23-8/5)...over the three-game stretch, Perdomo went 3-0 with a 2.76 ERA (5 ER, 16.1 IP). To start the streak on 6/23 vs. DET, he tossed 6.0 shutout innings of two-hit ball, allowing no runs while striking out six...it marked his second start this season going at least 6.0 innings, allowing two hits or less and no earned runs (also 5/31vs. CHC), the only Padres pitcher this season to record such a start. The only Padres pitcher to record wins in three consecutive starts in 2016 was LHP Christian Friedrich from May 27 to June 6. QUALITY OVER QUANTITY: Has tossed 14 quality starts this year, tied with Jhoulys Chacin for the club lead.
