KC FINISHES SHORT-STAFFED--The Royals were running out of coaches during yesterday s chaotic win over the A s, as pitching coach Dave Eiland was ejected in the bottom of the first inning when warnings were issued and Ned Yost went seconds later when he attempted to get an explanation...things cooled for a few innings, but by the end of the eighth the lineup card would wind up in Dale Sveum s hands, as Kelvin Herrera, Don Wakamatsu and Alcides Escobar were each tossed after Herrera s pitch was delivered behind Brett Lawrie...Wakamatsu, run for the fourth time in his career, was essentially popped twice on the same play as he was automatically ejected after Herrera s delivery and ejection and then in a separate argument, crew chief Jim Joyce also chased Wak...as for Escobar, he was not playing in the game, but was apparently vocal enough to get tossed. PEN CONTINUES DOMINATION--The Kansas City bullpen tossed 4.0 more shutout innings on Sunday, with Franklin Morales recording one out and getting the victory...kc s pen has been scored upon in only one of the 37.0 innings it has worked thus far in 2015, with Minnesota plating three runs in the eighth last Thursday in Target Field to snap a streak of 23.1 consecutive scoreless to open the year...overall, Kansas City relievers have allowed three earned runs in the 34.0 innings for a Major League best 0.73 ERA, while holding opposing hitters to a big league low.156 batting average. 4 This & That F. MORALES JOINS KC S WIN COLUMN--He needed only two pitches, but Franklin Morales was summoned from the pen to finish up the Brett Lawrie at bat after Kelvin Herrera was tossed in the eighth inning...lawrie popped up on the infield and the Royals rallied with a 3-run bottom of the frame to stake Franklin to his 20th Major League win and making him the 279th hurler to post a victory in a Kansas City Royals uniform...yesterday was his first win in the Majors since last September 7 when he was a 6-0 victor over San Diego in Coors Field, working 6.0 frames as the starter. DAVIS WINNINGEST OUT OF PEN--Since returning to full-time bullpen duty at the outset of 2014, Wade Davis has recorded a big league best 11 victories, with #11 occurring here on Friday night after a eighth inning of work and a pair of Royal runs in the bottom of the frame...since the beginning of 2014, Davis has an 11-2 ledger and a 0.92 ERA (8 earned runs in 78.0 innings) while limiting opposing hitters to a big league best.144 mark...hard to believe, but he s been even better since June 27 of last year, going 6-0 with four saves and a 0.61 ERA (3 earnies in 44.1 innings). BUSY TURNSTILES--Kansas City is coming off its second home series of the year, drawing 109,134 for the 3-game set against the A s...friday s contest was the second sellout of the young year, while yesterday just fell short with 36,755 in attendance...the last time KC eclipsed 100K in a 3-game, non-postseason series, was last September in the final three home games vs. Detroit that drew 112,231...through six games, the Royals have had 192,840 pass through the turnstiles, an improvement of 61,910 over six home dates to start last year. A TRIPLES MACHINE--The Major League leader in triples resides right here in Kansas City as 29-year old rookie Paulo Orlando has quickly made a name for himself after nine seasons in the minor leagues...just the third native Brazilian in history to perform in the majors (Yan Gomes and Andre Rienzo), Orlando became the first player in the modern era (since 1900) to collect four triples in his first four big league games when he tripled here on Friday night...the Brazilian Blur had a pair of triples on April 12 in Anaheim to go with a triple for his first big league hit on April 9 vs. the White Sox thus becoming the only player since at least 1900 whose first three career hits were of the 3-base variety...there were four players who had triples for their first two hits in the last 50 years...his triple streak was snapped with a measly single on Thursday in Minnesota. BUSY TIMES--Kansas City is in the midst of playing on 19 consecutive days with the next off day ticketed for Monday, May 4...the Royals will hit the road following Wednesday night s affair and open a 7-game road trip on Thursday evening vs. the White Sox in U.S. Cellular Field...KC will then visit Cleveland for a 3-game set starting Monday night...tonight is the first of 20 consecutive tilts against A.L. Central opposition, including this 3-game series with the Twins, seven vs. the Tigers (four here), six vs. Cleveland (three here) and four vs. the White Sox (all in ChiTown). PREVALENT AMONG THE LEADERS--Through the first dozen games of the 2015 campaign, Kansas City s 9-3 record has been built by ranking at or near the top in virtually every category...among all Major League clubs, KC leads in hits (132), team batting (.313), on-base pct. (.373) and ranks fourth in the Majors in slugging pct. (.467), while ranking first in fewest times K d (62)...the Royals are also tied for second in fewest errors (3) and fourth in the A.L. in ERA (3.31). CLUTCH & LATE KEYS KC--Kansas City s eighth inning 3-run rally yesterday was on a par for how the first two week of the season has gone, with the Royals leading the Majors with a.305 mark (40-for-131) when hitting from the seventh inning or later...kc also leads all of baseball with 17 go-ahead RBI, explaining the six come-from-behind wins through a dozen games...kansas City is also first in batting with runners in scoring position and two outs with a.303 mark (20-for-66). AMONG BEST IN RUN DIFFERENTIAL--Kansas City finished the 2014 regular season with a run differential of plus-27, scoring 651 times and allowing through 12 games this year, the Royals have a plus difference of 28, by plating 68 tallies and allowing 40...Kansas City s +28 is second to Detroit s +33 for the Major League lead...kc s 5.67 runs per game rank tied with the Tigers first in Major League Baseball, while the 3.33 runs allowed are tied for third in the A.L. NED CLOSING IN--The 16th full-time manager in franchise history, Ned Yost, is already the franchise leader in games managed with 787 and now two more than the late Don Zimmer for the 67th most games managed in a career at 1,745...his record in a Kansas City uniform is just 30 victories shy of tying Whitey Herzog (410) as the winningest skipper in team annals and enters tonight 22 wins shy of second place Dick Howser (404)...Yost was named to his post on May 13, this is his second stint as a big league manager after nearly six full campaigns at the helm for the Milwaukee Brewers ( )...he compiled a record with the Brew Crew including a mark in his last two seasons...ned s 839 career wins are good for 73rd all-time in baseball annals, just one behind Charlie Comiskey for 72nd...Yost, a catcher during his playing days, began his coaching career in the Atlanta organization, including 12 straight seasons on Bobby Cox s big league staff ( ). vs. Twins (2015) vs. Twins (career) At Home (career) Gibson (career) Milone (career) Player AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI Cain Calixte Colon Dyson Escobar Gordon Hosmer Infante Kratz Morales Moustakas Orlando Perez Starting Pitchers Breakdown Total KC Avg.
