Right-hander Lucas Sims will climb the hill for the Braves in his first career start against Chattanooga, squaring off against lefthander Jason Wheeler for the double-a Twins. LAST TIME OUT: Johnny Field broke a 1-1 tie with a two-out grand slam home run in the bottom of the seventh, and the Montgomery Biscuits beat Mississippi 5-1, taking four of five in the series. Brandon Barker allowed just a run on four hits over his five innings, but Andrew Thurman served up the grand slam and took the loss. Ozzie Albies finished with two hits, raising his season average to.310, and Dustin Peterson drove in the lone Braves run in the first on a groundout. CHATTANOOGA CHOO-CHO: The M-Braves have played well against the Lookouts dating back to 2013, posting three straight seasons of winning head-to-head records and going against the club dating back to the 2013 season. WILLIANS WATCH: M-Braves catcher Willians Astudillo has an incredible knack for making contact and putting the ball in play, currently riding a stretch of 35 games and 121 consecutive at-bats since his last strikeout. The last time Astudillo struck out was July 23, 2015 while playing for high-a Clearwater in the Phillies system. EXIT STAGE LEFT: On Friday night in Montgomery, Dustin Peterson and Jacob Schrader became the first M-Braves duo to homer in the same game in more than a month of contests. The last time multiple Braves homered in the same game was August 11, 2015 at Biloxi, when Emerson Landoni, Kevin Ahrens and Matt Lipka all went yard. MONTGOMERY BLUES: After Saturday night s 5-1 loss to the Biscuits, the M-Braves happily bid farewell to Montgomery s Riverwalk Stadium, where they ve lost six of the last seven and are 7-18 since the start of the 2014 season. All-time, the M- Braves are at Riverwalk and overall against the Biscuits. STELLAR STARTERS: Through 10 games, Mississippi Braves starters have been stellar, posting a 2-2 record with a 2.32 ERA. They ve gone a combined 50 1/3 innings, allowing just 38 hits for 13 earned runs, striking out 53 and walking 23. BIG LEAGUE BRAVES: The Mississippi Braves had their first callups to Atlanta on Monday afternoon, sending LHP Hunter Cervenka to the Braves bullpen for their game in Washington. Cervenka made his MLB debut on Tuesday night, facing just one batter, allowing a hit to Daniel Murphy in Atlanta s 2-1 loss. Cervenka becomes the 17th M-Brave in team history to be called directly to Atlanta from AA. He made two scoreless relief appearances for Mississippi this season and hasn t allowed an ER in his last 31.2 professional innings between independent baseball, AAA Gwinnett and the M-Braves, a span of 27 appearances. THE SKIPPER, BRAVE AND SURE: For the first time since 2012, the Mississippi Braves have a new manager at the helm in former big league third baseman Luis Salazar. Salazar spent the past five seasons managing the Braves high-a Carolina League affiliate in Lynchburg ( ) and Carolina (2015). It will be Salazar s 13th season as a minor league manager, posting a career record of and a record in the Braves organization. He played 13 seasons in the big leagues from 1980 to 1992, posting a.261 average and 94 home runs between the Padres, White Sox, Tigers and Cubs. Salazar returns to the Southern League after serving as hitting coach of the Jacksonville Suns (2008) and Chattanooga Lookouts (2009).
