5 RACERField After four year s of playing at the City of Murray s Central Park, the Murray State Racer softball team finally has a permanent home located in the heart of campus. The on-campus facility was completed in the spring of 2013 and will officially open on Mar. 15 against UT Martin. While the field has not had its grand opening, the Racers did play a slate of fall games at Racer Field in 2013 and won all six games. The field, which is 220 feet in the deepest part of center field, is equipped with real grass and a topof-the-line dirt surface. Each of the two dugouts is extremely spacious and features internet connectivity. A brand new scoreboard, a new wind screen and a 250-seat bleacher stand are just some of the touches that make Racer Field feel like home already. The entire perimeter of the park is surrounded by a white fence, reminiscent of the fences that surround horse farms all over the Commonwealth. Prior to moving on campus, the Racers spent four years just across the street at Central Park where they were (.609) all-time. The first game played there was a 6-2 loss to Evansville on Mar 3, 2010, while the last was a 10-9, 9-inning win over Austin Peay on May 5, Stephanie Mattocks was the first Racer to ever homer at Central Park, doing so in the opening game in The last was Sarah Anderson who went yard in game one of the May 5 doubleheader against Austin Peay. Mattocks home run was actually the first-ever hit recorded by a MSU player at Central Park, while the last player to tally a hit there was Shelbey Miller with the extra-inning game-winner against the Lady Govs. 2014MURRAYSTATESOFTBALL 5
