4 POSTSEASON BESTS Jeff Gelalich became the sixth player in UCLA history to have hit two home runs in a postseason game during his 3-for-4, four-rbi effort against Creighton (June 3). Gelalich s two-home run game sparked the Bruins to a 13-5 win over Creighton in the final NCAA Los Angeles Regional contest. Cody Regis accomplished the feat as a freshman in 2010, belting two homers in UCLA s 11-7 win over Cal State Fullerton in the NCAA Super Regional. STRONG STARTERS Adam Plutko has logged the second-lowest postseason ERA of any UCLA pitcher in school history (0.88 ERA), among players with a minimum 12.0 innings. Plutko has allowed three earned runs in 30.2 innings over four career postseason starts. Likewise, Nick Vander Tuig s 11-strikeout effort against New Mexico (June 2) is tied for the fifth-most strikeouts in a UCLA postseason game by one pitcher. Vander Tuig has posted a 2.70 ERA in postseason games (through 23.1 innings over two years), the seventh-lowest mark in UCLA playoff history. CONNECT FOUR Adam Plutko tied former UCLA standout Trevor Bauer atop the school s all-time postseason wins list (4). Plutko has gone 4-0 in four career postseason starts during his freshman and sophomore years. Bauer went 4-0 in five postseason starts during his sophomore (2010) and junior (2011) seasons. As a freshman in 2011, Plutko held San Francisco to one hit in 7.2 scoreless innings in an elimination contest. As a sophomore in 2012, he went 3-0 with a 1.17 ERA in 23.0 innings (three starts), logging 21 strikeouts and seven walks. PLAYOFF EXPERIENCE Beau Amaral and Cody Regis have played in more postseason games than any Bruin in school history. Each player started all 24 postseason games during the Bruins 2010, 2011 and 2012 playoff runs. Jeff Gelalich ranks third on the school s all-time playoff games list, having competed in 23 postseason games. Amaral also concluded his career ranking first on the school s alltime postseason hits (33) and at-bats (99) lists. MULTIPLE APPEARANCES David Berg pitched in seven of UCLA s eight postseason games in 2012, tying the school record for most career pitching appearances. Berg s seven appearances in the 2012 postseason stands as the most appearances for any UCLA pitcher in one postseason. Dan Klein pitched in seven playoff games during UCLA s 2008 and 2010 postseason appearances. In 2012, Berg threw 13.2 scoreless innings, scattering five hits in relief. He ranks first all-time in UCLA s postseason ERA department (0.00), among pitchers with at least 12.0 innings. The right-hander logged 12 strikeouts and two walks while limiting the opposition to a.116 batting average. SIX OF SEVEN UCLA made its sixth postseason appearance in seven years in 2012, marking the first time that the Bruins have accomplished that feat in school history. Prior to that, UCLA s most successful postseason stretch spanned the 1992 through 1997 seasons, when UCLA advanced to the playoffs in four of six years.
