The Huskies, ranked No. 16 by Collegiate Baseball and No. 21 by Baseball America, sit a game and a half back of the top-ranked Cardinal in second place in the Pac-10 standings. However, the Huskies have fared a little better in recent years as the Dawgs are 9-14 over the last seven seasons, dating back to the 1997 Pacific-10 Conference championship series, which the UW won, two games to one, in Palo Alto. The following year, Stanford took two of three in a regular-season series at Stanford, but Washington swept the Pac-10 championship series in Seattle, two games to none. After the Pac-10 merger prior to the 1999 season, the Cardinal took two of three in a series in Seattle. Stanford took all three in 2000 and 2001, with all six of those games at Sunken Diamond. The Dawgs took two of fhree in Seattle in 2002 and, last year, the Cardinal won two of three in Palo Alto. Washington won the opener, 5-3, but Stanford came back to take the next two, 10-6 and COACH K : Now in his 12th season in charge of the Washington baseball team, Ken Knutson has compiled an impressive list of accomplishments. Knutson has led the Dawgs to two Pac-10 championships, four Pac-10 Northern Division titles, two other second-place finishes and five NCAA Regional berths. His career overall record now stands at (.608). With 415 wins, he is the second-winningest coach in UW history, trailing only Bob MacDonald (422). Before becoming the Husky head man in 1993, Knutson served as the Husky pitching coach for eight seasons. In 1985, his UW pitching staff led the nation with a 2.80 ERA. Knutson holds a (.697) record in home games. He is (.596) in Pac-10 games. Knutson has coached 40 first-team All-Pac-10 selections in 11 seasons, and has been named league coach of the year three times.
