The two programs have met once before during the 2011 season where ULM took a 10-5 decision. The Warhawks currently sit 5-2 in coference play and third in the conference standings, marking the best start in SBC play since the program joined in With 15 conference games left, ULM is one win away from tying 2014 s mark and five away from tying ULM s most win in Sun Belt action (10). The Warhawks picked up their 20th victory on the season defeating Texas State 7-4. This is the most wins through 29 games the Warhawks have tallied since the 1997 season where the program went ULM is on pace to pick up 30 wins on the season for the first time since the 2001 season. With 22 RBI on the season, senior Alexis Cacioppo moves her career total to 114 to secure fifth place on ULM s career RBI leader board In the first RPI on the 2015 season, ULM ranks 83. Sophomore Melanie Coyne dealt a three-hit shutout to claim her seventh victory on the season, marking her fourth scoreless outing on the season and her first seveninning outing. Junior Amye Barre knocked her seventh double of the year and moveing her RBI total to 13. The Warhawks moved to 21-8 on the season, and it the quickest the Warhawks have won over 20 games since the 1997 season. ON DECK The Warhawks kick off an eight-game road trip on Saturday with a conference road series with Georgia Southern. This is the first time the two programs have met in conference play as the two teams have had one lone meeting prior to this season. The road series will also see the Warhawks take on conference opponent Troy as well as two non-conference games with in-state rivals: Louisiana Tech and #1 LSU. The Warhawks will return to the ULM Softball Complex on April to host UT Arlington in confernece play. Cacioppo has increased her career batting average to.319 through the 29 games of the 2015 season. The mark moves Cacioppo to ninth place on the career leaderboard. With two home runs and six doubles in 2015, Cacioppo has picked up 25 career home runs and 30 career doubles, both marks earning her career leadboard marks. She is seventh all-time in doubles and holds fifth place all-time in home runs. WARHAWKS IN MARCH ULM has posted a record (.451) in March since the pogram s inception in The Warhawks set a team tecord for wins in the month in 1997 when they went 22-1 (.957). The 1997 squad s only loss in March came at the hands of 3-6 decision to Mc- Neese State ULM s best winning percentage during the month of March is.957 set by the 1997 squad (22-1) KNOXVILLE, Tenn. The ULM softball team broke out with five runs in the sixth inning to claim a 10-5 win over Georgia Southern in its final game of the Tennessee Classic Saturday afternoon. The Warhawks finished with a 2-1 record for the Classic to improve to 11-9 on the season. Roxy Cassel went 2-for-2 with two walks, two RBI and a team-high-tying three runs to lead ULM while Melissa Rivera went 2-for-3 and had a team-high-tying three RBI with one double and one stolen base. Janel Salanoa also added three RBI and three runs in a 1-for-2 performance that included two walks and her fourth home run of the season. Brianna Love also had two runs. Tiffany Mills pitched her third complete game of the season and threw three strikeouts and eight hits for five runs, all earned. With the win, Mills improves to 5-5 on the season. For the Eagles, Marie Fogle led with a team-best 3-for-4 performance at the plate that included one run and a team-high-tying two RBI. Mackenzie Williams also added two RBI and a team-high two runs after going 1-for-2. Allie Miles (3-5) threw 5.2 innings in the circle and allowed nine hits for nine runs, eight earned while striking out four to be credited the loss. Megen Smith pitched 1.1 innings and gave up two walks, one hit and one run. With two outs in the first inning, ULM s Cassel singled through the left side before Salanoa smacked a home run over left center field to take an early 2-0 lead. Georgia Southern cut the Warhawks lead by half 2-1 in the bottom of the inning as Fogle led off with a double to right center before Tarashuk plated her on a sacrifice bunt. The Eagles grabbed their first lead of the game in the second inning when Hannah Ennis and Mackenzie Williams each reached on a single and walk, respectively, before advancing a base off a sacrifice bunt. Fogle ripped a triple down the left field line to drive both runs home and take a 3-2 lead. The Warhawks immediately responded in the top of the third inning with a Cassel RBI double which plated Love to knot the score 3-3. Two more runs ensued when Cassel scored on a throwing error followed by Salanoa who made it home with an RBI single by Elise West, the Warhawks up 5-3. The score evened for the second time at 5-5 in the fourth inning when Williams nailed a home run to left center field to score herself and Nicole Benton who entered to pinch run for Ennis after she reached with a single. ULM hammered the Eagles with five runs in the sixth inning to eventually put the game away. The Warhawks loaded the bases with a triple, a single and a walk before back-to-back walks of Cassel and Salanoa scored Miyuki Navarrete and Love. A Rivera three RBI double to right center pushed all three base runners across home plate before West grounded out to end the inning, the Warhawks claiming the final three outs of the game to earn the 10-5 victory.

The Warhawks have knocked 40 doubles through 29 games on the season, only 18 doubles shy of the 2014 season total of 58 doubles in 52 games. Eight players have 10 RBI or more heading into Saturday s games with two player with 20 or more RBI. Bohack leads all Warhawks with 23 RBI. The Warhawks have won nine games in six innings or less in 2015, and the Maroon and Gold have outscored opponents, over the 29-game span to start the year The Warhawks 178 runs in 29 games is over 70 percent of the 2014 season total of 254 runs. MAKE ROOM FOR THE RECORD BOOKS With 22 RBI thus far in 2015, senior Alexis Cacioppo brings her career RBI total to 114 and moves her to fifth place on the ULM All-Time Career RBI Leaderboard. Cacioppo jumps alum Janel Salanoa who drove in 111 runs in her career. The senior is only 8 RBI shy from taking over fourth place on the list and 17 away for moving into third place. GETTING AHEAD OF THE GAME ULM has scored first in 17 of its 29 games this season. Fifteen of those games have gone in the win column for the Warhawks. In ULM s 29 games, The Warhawks have scored in the first inning in 15 of them with 48 of the Warhawks 178 runs scored this year coming in the first inning. The highest inning for runs for the Warhawks has come in the first when the Maroon and Gold have crossed the plate 48 times, followed by the fifth inning that has seen 29 runs scored and the fourth inning with 28 total runs. 8 2015 ULM SOFTBALL GAME NOTES PAGE 8 Corey Lyon is in his first season at the helm of the ULM softball program. He was introduced as the program s new head coach on Friday, June 27, COREY LYON (1st season at ULM) (4th season overall) PERSONAL Education: Newman, 1995 COACHING EXPERIENCE : Paris Junior College (head coach) : Southern Arkansas (head coach) 2014-present: ULM Softball (head coach) HONORS -Great American Conference Championship (2014) -Region XIV Eastern Division Conference Championship (2009) Lyon makes the transition to ULM from Southern Arkansas where he was the head coach for the last three seasons. In the season prior to his arrival (2011), the Lady Muleriders posted a record of During the 2012 season, his first at Southern Arkansas, the team improved their win total by 12 games as it finished with 26 wins. Year two (2013) saw another 20-plus win campaign as the Lady Muleriders won 27 games to mark the first time since 2006 (26 wins) and 2007 (27 wins) that the program had back-to-back 20-plus win seasons. During his first two seasons at the helm of the program, Lyon guided the program to 53 wins a mark of 10 more wins than the four seasons prior to his arrival (43 wins from 2008 to 2011). This past season, Lyon s club won 37 games en route to the Great American Conference tournament title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. The Lady Muleriders came out of the loser s bracket to win three straight games and claim the GAC title including a pair of shutout wins over top-seeded Southeastern Oklahoma State. Following the GAC championship, Southern Arkansas competed in the NCAA Central Regional in Winona, Minn. The 2014 club set a total of 31 school records and its NCAA tournament berth was the first in program history. The squad s winning record (37-26) was the first winning season for the Lady Muleriders since the 2005 season. A total of 11 players were named All-GAC and three earned NCAA Division II All-Central Region honors. In his three seasons in Magnolia, Ark., Lyon s teams reached the conference tournament each season and a total of 25 players were named GAC All-Academic. He also had the first ever All-American in program history and had another player earn Academic All-American honors. His 90 total wins from are the most in any three-year stretch in program history. Before taking over at Southern Arkansas, Lyon was the head coach at Paris (Texas) Junior College where he compiled a record of from His teams reached the region tournaments all three seasons and his teams led Region XIV in homers each season. His win percentage of.706 is the best in program history. The mark of.706 from was the third best among the 30 junior colleges in Texas. He also had 23 players either named All-Conference or All-Region. In his first season, the squad claimed their first ever conference title as they claimed the 2009 Region XIV Eastern Division Conference Championship. The club went on to finish as the runner-up at the regional tournament. Prior to being at Paris JC, Lyon was head softball coach at Independent High School in Wichita, Kan., from , guiding his teams to a mark over the four years. In the program s two-year existence before his arrival, the school had never won a game. Lyon s final two teams in 2007 and 2008 claimed league and regional championships, and his 2008 squad was the Kansas 3A state runner-up after finishing fourth in While at Independent, Lyon also served as dean of students and was the head football coach from , guiding the 2007 team to the best record in school history. Lyon received his B.S.E. in elementary education from Newman (Kan.) University in 1995 and his M.A. in school leadership from Baker (Kan.) University in 2005.
