This weekend s matchups with Idaho State are the first in the two program s histories. ULM has swiped 52 bases in 15 games this season, leading the conference. Five Warhawks are in the top six in conference in stolen bases. Eight different Warhawks have hit home runs this season (Barre, Cacioppo, Navarrete, Bohack, Garcia, Roberts, Miller and Coy) Junior Faith Bohack is fresh off a seven RBI week as she now leads the team with 17 runs batted in this year which ties her at third in the conference. The freshman class made a big splash this past week combining for 10 hits, eight RBI and seven runs scored. After dropping a 1-hit, shutout to the host team (L, 0-8), the Warhawks offense flex its muscles to pick up 13 runs against UAPB to take the victory (W, 13-5). Five Warhawks picked up a multi-hit game as freshman Cheyanne Lyon and junior Faith Bohack picked up three RBI each. Senior Jessica Colliver picked up her third win after coming in for relief in the frist inning. and going five innings of one-run softball and striking out six Golden Lions. ON DECK ULM travels out west to compete in the Alex Park Resort Classic hosted by UNLV, the Warhawks fourth tournament on the season. Last season, ULM finished sixth in the Sun Belt with a 6-14 conference record and record overall. With new coach Corey Lyon at the helm, the Warhawks will be looking for a fresh start in The Warhawks bring a 2015 squad loaded with experience. Nine upperclassmen lead the group, including one of the best infielder s in the conference Miyuki Navarrete. WARHAWKS IN FEBRUARY ULM has posted a record (.475) in February since the program s inception in The Warhawks set a team record for wins in the month in 2001 when they went 13-4 (.765). ULM s best winning percentage during the month of Februrary is.800 set by the 1997 squad (8-2) Last season, ULM went 12-5 in the month of February with two four-game win streaks in that stretch. Four players have 10 RBI or more heading into Friday s game. Bohack leads all Warhawks with 17 RBI, good for a tie for third in the conference. The Warhawks have won six games in run-rule fashion in ULM have outscored their opponents, , over the 15-game span to start the year. FRESHMEN CLASS MAKES HUGE IMPACT Last weekend, the freshmen class played a huge role in the picking up three Warhawks wins. In the second game versus Delaware, Cheyanne Lyon went 3-for-3 picking up two RBI and scoring two runs. Lyon, Megan Long and Carlie Comeaux picked up two hits each to combine for six of the Warhawks 13 hits agaisnt UAPB. Lyon picked up three RBI and scored three runs as Comeaux and Long combined for three RBI. COLLIVER HAS STRONG START TO 2015 Senior Jessica Colliver has made an outstanding start to the 2015 season. In her 10 relief appearances, Colliver has garnered a conference leading 1.54 ERA allowing only five earned runs in 22.2 innings and has picked up three wins in relief this season. Opponents have only picked up 20 hits against Colliver for a team-leading.220 opponent average. Colliver has brought the heat striking out 18 batters faced. 7 GAMES 16-20: ALEX PARK RESORT CLASSIC PAGE 7 COREY LYON (1st season at ULM) (4th season overall) PERSONAL Education: Newman, 1995 Corey Lyon is in his first season at the helm of the ULM softball program. He was introduced as the program s new head coach on Friday, June 27, Lyon makes the transition to ULM from Southern Arkansas where he was the head coach for the last three seasons. In the season prior to his arrival (2011), the Lady Muleriders posted a record of During the 2012 season, his first at Southern Arkansas, the team improved their win total by 12 games as it finished with 26 wins. COACHING EXPERIENCE : Paris Junior College (head coach) : Southern Arkansas (head coach) 2014-present: ULM Softball (head coach) HONORS -Great American Conference Championship (2014) -Region XIV Eastern Division Conference Championship (2009) Year two (2013) saw another 20-plus win campaign as the Lady Muleriders won 27 games to mark the first time since 2006 (26 wins) and 2007 (27 wins) that the program had back-to-back 20-plus win seasons. During his first two seasons at the helm of the program, Lyon guided the program to 53 wins a mark of 10 more wins than the four seasons prior to his arrival (43 wins from 2008 to 2011). This past season, Lyon s club won 37 games en route to the Great American Conference tournament title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. The Lady Muleriders came out of the loser s bracket to win three straight games and claim the GAC title including a pair of shutout wins over top-seeded Southeastern Oklahoma State. Following the GAC championship, Southern Arkansas competed in the NCAA Central Regional in Winona, Minn. The 2014 club set a total of 31 school records and its NCAA tournament berth was the first in program history. The squad s winning record (37-26) was the first winning season for the Lady Muleriders since the 2005 season. A total of 11 players were named All-GAC and three earned NCAA Division II All-Central Region honors. In his three seasons in Magnolia, Ark., Lyon s teams reached the conference tournament each season and a total of 25 players were named GAC All-Academic. He also had the first ever All-American in program history and had another player earn Academic All-American honors. His 90 total wins from are the most in any three-year stretch in program history. Before taking over at Southern Arkansas, Lyon was the head coach at Paris (Texas) Junior College where he compiled a record of from His teams reached the region tournaments all three seasons and his teams led Region XIV in homers each season. His win percentage of.706 is the best in program history. The mark of.706 from was the third best among the 30 junior colleges in Texas. He also had 23 players either named All-Conference or All-Region. In his first season, the squad claimed their first ever conference title as they claimed the 2009 Region XIV Eastern Division Conference Championship. The club went on to finish as the runner-up at the regional tournament. Prior to being at Paris JC, Lyon was head softball coach at Independent High School in Wichita, Kan., from , guiding his teams to a mark over the four years. In the program s two-year existence before his arrival, the school had never won a game. Lyon s final two teams in 2007 and 2008 claimed league and regional championships, and his 2008 squad was the Kansas 3A state runner-up after finishing fourth in While at Independent, Lyon also served as dean of students and was the head football coach from , guiding the 2007 team to the best record in school history. Lyon received his B.S.E. in elementary education from Newman (Kan.) University in 1995 and his M.A. in school leadership from Baker (Kan.) University in 2005.
