The G-Braves have posted three-straight winning seasons under manager Dave Brundage, going in 2009, in 2010 and last season for an alltime record of Brundage will attempt to lead the club back to the International League Playoffs for the first time since 2009, when the G-Braves claimed the Wild Card spot. Opening Statement: The G-Braves open the season with a four-game set against IL South rival Durham for the second-straight season Gwinnett won the opener last year at Coolray Field, 2-1, in front of 8,553 fans Jordan Schafer (1-for-4, RBI) and Mauro Gomez (1-for-3, double, RBI) each drove in runs and right-hander Rodrigo Lopez scattered a run on seven hits over 6.0 innings for the victory the G-Braves went on to split the series, 2-2. Since moving from Richmond, VA to Lawrenceville, GA, Gwinnett has gone a perfect 3-0 on Opening Night, including an 8-6 win over Charlotte on 4/8/10 and a 9-1 win at Charlotte on 4/9/09. Experience at the Helm: Manager Dave Brundage, hitting coach Jamie Dismuke, pitching coach Marty Reed, coach Billy Nicholson and trainer Mike Graus all return to the staff in 2012 after a successful 2011 season. Brundage returns to Gwinnett for the fourth-straight season, his sixth as the manager for the Braves Triple-A affiliate Brundy is a career 1, on the bench and has guided the Braves to their most-recent International League title, coming in 2007 with Richmond. Dismuke is also back for his fourth season, while Reed returns for his second season. The newest addition to the staff is strength/conditioning coordinator Matt Parvis. Star Power: Leading a cast of 10 returning players to the Gwinnett roster are two 2011 International League Post-Season All-Stars, right-hander Julio Teheran and outfielder Stefan Gartrell. The 21-year-old Teheran, ranked the No. 1 prospect in the Braves system according to Baseball America for a second-straight year, was the IL s Most Valuable Pitcher and Rookie of the Year in 2011 after going 15-3 with a 2.55 ERA in 25 games, 24 starts for the G- Braves Teheran led the IL in wins and ranked second in ERA while also capturing the Atlanta Braves Minor League Pitcher of the Year award. Gartrell had a monster season at the plate, earning mid-season and post-season All-Star selections he hit.260 with 28 doubles, 25 HR (2 nd most in the IL) and led the circuit with 94 RBI (91 with Gwinnett, three with Charlotte). Gartrell also blasted 27 HR and drove in 80 runs two seasons ago for Triple-A Charlotte. The Prospects are Good: Including Teheran, four members of the active G-Braves roster rank among Baseball America s Top 30 Prospects for the Atlanta Braves. Infielder Joey Terdoslavich, the Atlanta Braves Minor League Player of the Year, checks in at No. 11 on the list and will make his Triple-A debut with the G-Braves. Terdoslavich hit.286 with a Carolina League record 52 doubles, 20 home runs and 82 RBI in 131 games for Advanced-A Lynchburg last season. Returning G-Braves from 2011, right-handers Erik Cordier (No. 26) and Cory Gearrin (No. 29) also rank on the list. Cordier went 5-8 with a 5.13 ERA in 19 starts for Gwinnett last year while Gearrin went 4-1 with a 1.80 ERA and four saves in 35 relief outings. Major Experience: Nine active G-Braves spent time with a Major League team last season, including three that saw time with the Braves Teheran (1-1, 5.03 ERA in five games) and Gearrin (1-1, 7.85 ERA in 18 games) both pitched for Atlanta while J.C. Boscan hit.333 (3- for-9) in a four-game stint with the big club. Tonight marks his first Opening Night start for the G-Braves in this his fourth season with the club. It is the 182 nd career appearance, 176 th career start for Redmond. Last Outing: Redmond closed up the 2011 season with a start at Charlotte on 9/2 he did not factor in the decision despite his 20 th quality start of the year as he limited the Knights to two runs on three hits over 6.0 innings while walking four and striking out five. The G-Braves would go on to lose the game, 3-2, snapping a string of four-straight wins during Redmond starts. Vs. Durham: Redmond faced the Bulls six times in 2011, all starts, going 1-3 despite a stellar 1.70 ERA (7 ER in 37.0 IP) he walked 12 while striking out 28 batters and limited Durham to a.209 average (28-for- 134). One of his two complete game efforts came against the Bulls, that in a rain-shortened 6.0-inning outing on 7/5/11 (loss, 5 H, 3 ER, 5 K). In 2010, Redmond went 2-1 with a 6.10 ERA (14 ER in 20.2 IP) in four starts against Durham he went 0-2 with a 6.87 ERA (14 ER in 18.1 IP) in In the Grapefruit League: The St. Petersburg, Florida native pitched in four Spring Training games for the Atlanta Braves this year, going 1-1 with a 7.50 ERA (5 ER in 6.0 IP), two walks and five strikeouts he went 1-for-2 in save appearances for the Braves.
