Detroit wasted li le me ge ng on the scoreboard as Nicholas Castellanos hit a solo home run in the top of the first. Later in the inning, Jus n Upton added a RBI single to put the Tigers up 2-0. Mikie Mahtook extended the lead to three with a solo homer in the fourth inning. Boston started its comeback in the bo om of the fourth inning on a Mitch Moreland solo home run and RBI single by Jackie Bradley Jr. The score remained 3-2 un l the bo om of the eighth when the Red Sox put together a three-run rally. An RBI single by Moreland ed the game at 3 and Bradley Jr. put Boston in front with a two-run home run. José Iglesias and J.D. Mar nez each had three hits in the loss for the Tigers, while Victor Mar nez was 2x2 with two walks. Jordan Zimmermann started for Detroit and turned in his second straight quality start, allowing two runs on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts in 6.0 innings. Alex Wilson gave up three runs on four hits in 0.2 innings to take the loss. EASY BEING GREENE: Shane Greene pitched a scoreless inning in last night s game and has now turned in a scoreless ou ng in 13 of his last 14 appearances. Greene lowered his season ERA to 1.57 (28.2IP/5ER), which ranks seventh among American League relievers. GETTIN IGGY WITH IT: José Iglesias went 3x4 in last night s series opener at Boston. The performance marked Iglesias seventh three-hit game of the season, which is ed for the fourth most in the American League. Over his last 14 games, Iglesias is ba ng.396 (21x53) with 11 runs scored, five doubles, one home run and eight RBI. During the 14-game stretch, Iglesias season ba ng average has risen from.195 to.256. STREAKING: Nicholas Castellanos and Jus n Upton each had a hit in last night s game to extend their hi ng streaks to eight games. The Tigers are 5-0 in the previous five mee ngs. Verlander has posted a 2-0 record with a 1.46 ERA (37.0IP/6ER), 25 hits allowed, five walks and 41 strikeouts in his five previous starts when being opposed by Sale.
