ABOUT THE LAST ONE: Jake Gatewood became the first Mudcats player to homer twice in a game this season after hitting a solo home run in both the second and ninth innings of last night s 3-2 loss to the Pelicans. It was the third time that Gatewood has homered twice in a game in his professional career. He also hit two home runs in a game twice last season on May 7 and May 11 with Wisconsin in The multi-homer game was the 12 th in the Mudcats Carolina League era and the 76 th multi-homer game in Mudcats franchise history. The single game team record for home runs in a game is three and was set by both George Canale on May 1, 1995 vs. Jacksonville and Jai Miller on July 24, 2007 at Tennessee. CHASE FOR FIRST: The second place Mudcats enter tonight s game in Myrtle Beach 2.5 game back of the first place Pelicans in the Carolina League Southern Division first half standings. Carolina s frst half elimination number is seven (7) with eight games remaning The Mudcats have not had sole possession of first place yet this season, but were as close as a half game back of first on 6/2... STARTING OFF: Trey Supak has the series finale start for the Mudcats tonight in Myrtle Beach against the Pelicans. Burnes was 5-0 over 10 starts with the Mudcats and left the Carolina League as the league leader in earned run average (1.05), WHIP (0.88) and fewest baserunners/9ip ratio (8.25). Burnes was also second in the league in lowest average against (.181), third in innings pitched (60.0) and fourth in strikeouts (56) before the promotion. The plethora of top rated Brewers prospects with Carolina include pitchers Marcos Diplan (11), Cody Ponce (15), Kodi Medeiros (18), Freddy Peralta (19), and Trey Supak (30). The list also includes outfielder Corey Ray (2), infielder Isan Diaz (5), outfielder Trent Clark (6), third baseman Lucas Erceg (7) and infielder Jake Gatewood (25). MUDCAT NO-NOs: Marcos Diplan (5.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 5 SO) and Freddy Peralta (3.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 SO) flirted with franchise history as they carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning of a 2-1 victory on 4/10 in Wilmington. 13 CAROLINA MUDCATS FIELD STAFF MANAGER: #33 Joe Ayrault Joe Ayrault enters his first season as manager of the Mudcats, but returns for his sixth overall as skipper of Milwaukee s Class-A Advanced affiliate. He previously managed the Florida State League s Brevard County Manatees (Milwaukee s previous Class-A Advanced affiliate) and compiled a (.439) record between 2012 and Ayrault began his managerial career in 2007 in the Cincinnati Reds organization where he led the Sarasota Reds to the Florida State League playoffs and an record. He went on to manage in the Reds system from 2007 through 2009 before joining the Brewers in 2010 as skipper of the Helena Brewers, Milwaukee s Rookie Level and Pioneer League affiliate. Ayrault earned Pioneer League Co- Manager of the Year honors in 2010 while leading Helena to a record and the Pioneer League championship in his first season at the helm. A former catcher, Ayrault was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the fifth round of the 1990 amateur draft and went on to spend his entire playing career ( ) in the Atlanta organization.
