IN THE BIG INNING--Kansas City scored 55 runs during the just completed 9-game road trip through California, with 32 of those tallies (58%) coming in just seven innings of play...the Royals had a 9-run inning in San Diego, a 6-run frame in San Francisco, a pair of 4-run innings and three 3-run during the journey... yesterday was the sixth time on the road trip the KC has scored at least seven runs in the game and dating back to the last homestand, the Royals have scored at least seven runs in nine of their last 10 victories...dating back to June 3, when the Royals plated 12 runs in a win here over Cleveland, Kansas City has scored 87 runs, which are fourth most in the Majors in that span and second only to the Yankees (98) in the American League. LONG BALL JOURNEY--The 3-run homer by Salvador Perez yesterday was the 18th home run on the 9-game road trip, tying Cleveland for second most in the A.L. since June 9 and trailing only the Yankees (20)...the Royals have Mike Moustakas tied for fifth in the league with 18 home runs, while Perez is now tied for 16th with his 14 blasts...lorenzo Cain clobbered six home runs during the 9-game tour to up his season total 10. ROSTER MOVE--The Royals today recalled right-handed pitcher Kevin McCarthy from Omaha (AAA) and optioned left-handed hurler Eric Skoglund back to the Storm Chasers...McCarthy, who will wear #61, is in his second stint with the big league club this year, appearing four times from May 29-June 7, allowing just three hits in 6.1 innings...the 25-year old has appeared in 20 games for Omaha, allowing seven earned runs in 27.0 innings for a 2.33 ERA...Skoglund started three games for Kansas City, going 1-1 with a 5.59 ERA...he won his big league debut with 6.1 shutout innings against Detroit on May 30. ALL ABOARD--The Cain Train has a strong road trip, becoming just the seventh player ever to record at least 15 hits, six home runs and drive home 11 runs in a trip that consisted of nine or fewer games...lorenzo Cain joined such lofty company as Davey Lopes (1979), Eddie Murray (1980), Barry Bonds (2001), Shawn Green (2002), David Ortiz (2002) and Adam LaRoche (2006)...he swiped a pair of bases in Saturday s setback in Anaheim and is now 14-for-14 in stolen bases and the only Major League player with at least nine stolen bases to still be perfect on the year...locain hit as many home runs in Friday s game at Anaheim (2) as he had in the first 51 games of the season...overall, he s hit eight home runs in his last 15 games...in nine games on the trip, Cain hit.417 (15-for-36) with 13 runs to go with the six homers and 11 RBI, while posting a.475 on-base pct. and.944 slugging pct.
