Mike Moustakas was the catalyst, driving home two in the first with a double then adding an infield single before closing his night with a home run off of infielder Taylor Motter, Moose s first of the year. ALL WINS VIA BLANKINGS--Last night was Kansas City s third win of the year and each have come while keeping the opposition off the board...the first two, in Detroit and Cleveland, respectively, were hold-your-breath 1-0 triumphs, while last night s was a big exhale with a 10-0 final...the last Major League team to start the year with their first three triumphs occurring as shutouts were the 2016 Los Angeles Dodgers, when they opened the campaign with three straight blankings in San Diego...Jakob Junis has been the hottest during KC s early stretch of shutouts, working 7.0 innings a week ago today in Detroit in the 1-0 triumph, then flirting with history last night by tossing no-hit ball for 6.1 innings and leaving after 7.0 without allowing a run. ROLLING WITH THE STARTERS--Dating back to a week ago today in Detroit, Kansas City s four-pack of starters, Jakob Junis, Danny Duffy, Ian Kennedy and Jason Hammel have posted a 0.85 ERA (three earned runs in 31.2 innings), with eight walks and 25 strikeouts while holding opponents to a.127 average (14-for- 110)...the stretch has seen bookend 7.0-inning shutout performances by last night s starter Junis...dating back to Friday in Cleveland when Danny Duffy was solved for three runs in the first inning, the starters have an active streak of 23.2 consecutive scoreless innings entering tonight. DARE WE SAY HEAT???--The Royals returned home to a first pitch temp of 42 degrees last night, which was made it the third warmest start for the club this year, all taking place here...the average first pitch temperature for the first eight games has been 39 degrees, starting with a pair of 45 degree starts here to open the season before an April Fool s Day snowstorm postponed the Sunday finale...since April 2 in Detroit, the Royals and their opponents played in temps of 36 and 40 in Motown before a Wednesday postponement and then 41, 34 and 32 in Cleveland...tonight s announced estimated first pitch temperature of near 55 degrees will mark the warmest day for KC since leaving Arizona on March 25. 4 This & That ROYALS ON THE OFFENSIVE--Kansas City entered last night s tilt scoring only six runs in its previous five games and averaging 2.3 through the first seven affairs overall...those numbers were washed away early and often last night as the Royals scored nine runs in the first four innings en route to the 10-0 victory over the Mariners...KC was 5-for-15 with runners in scoring position last night after collecting only six hits in its first 34 RISP situations to start the season. ESKY THE IRON MAN--Kansas City shortstop Alcides Escobar, who re-signed with the Royals over the winter, continues to possess the longest active streak of starts in the Majors with last night his 341st consecutive assignment...escobar, 31, was joined by Cincinnati s Joey Votto as the only big league players to start all 162 games last year, and Esky has a sizeable lead over the second longest skein among starters which belongs to Votto with 199 consecutive starts. MOOSE JOINS HOMER RANKS--Mike Moustakas hit the first non-lucas Duda homer for the Royals last night, clubbing infielder Taylor Motter s pitch to the porch in right-center in the eighth inning...the Royals have hit but three roundtrippers through the first eight games, with Duda hammering the first two including a solo blast on Saturday in Cleveland which accounted for the only run in the game...moustakas, who broke the Royals record for homers in a season with 38 last year, now has 120 in a Kansas City uniform which are just four shy of pulling him to a top 10 tie with Danny Tartabull on the all-time team list. ON THE FIELD FOR FOUR STRAIGHT--Though Mother Nature is doing her part to make the conditions chilly to say the least, last night was Kansas City s fourth consecutive day of work which is a high for the young season...since making the trek north from Arizona, last night was just the eighth game in the last 15 days since breaking camp on March 25...KC was scheduled for an exhibition in Omaha on Monday, March 26, but that contest was weathered out, then following consecutive scheduled off days, the Royals opened the year vs. the White Sox at home on March 29...the 30th was a scheduled day off, then game two at home with Chicago was followed by a snowout at The K on April Fool s Day...the Royals then played two in Detroit before Wednesday s postponement and Thursday s off day, then got all three games of a series in for the first time with the weekend stop in Cleveland before returning home last night. APRIL WILL CLOSE AS A BUSY MONTH--The sporadic action in the early going this year will be made up for later this month as the Royals already have a pair of split doubleheaders on the docket before we get to the month of May...the freeze-out in Detroit last Wednesday will be made up on Friday, April 20 when the two clubs play at 12:10 and 6:10 (KC time) in Comerica Park to open what is now going to be a four-game series...the snowout of April Fool s Day vs. the White Sox will now be played as part of a split-dh here on Saturday, April 28 with a 1:15 first pitch for the make-up game and then 7:15 start for the nightcap, an hour later than the originally scheduled 6:15 affair. ROYALS JOIN THE TV TWITTER-VERSE--Major League Baseball has announced its first nine games that will not only will be carried by club rightsholders, but also live on Twitter...the Royals will join the fray on Wednesday, May 2 from Boston when Twitter will show the 12:05 (CDT) contest from Fenway Park... the game will also air on its normal home in Kansas City of FOX Sports Kansas City...Major League Baseball and the Royals have already announced that the Wednesday, April 18 game from Toronto will be shown exclusively on Facebook, with the social media site the only place that contest can be found...there will be more Facebook and Twitter games announced as the season progresses. STADIUM HISTORY THE FIRST 50TH CELEBRATION--The Royals have called just two ballparks home in their 50 seasons and this weekend vs. the Angels, each ballpark will gain recognition...in the 6:15 game Saturday, the Royals will salute the history of Municipal Stadium with special presentations, videos and trivia during the pregame show and in-game events...the first 10,000 fans will receive a Municipal Stadium replica, courtesy of Price Chopper and Pepsi... alumni to appear will include Tom Burgmeier, Steve Busby, Al Fitzmorris, Denny Matthews, John Mayberry, Fred Patek, former head groundskeeper George Toma and Dave Wickersham...Sunday, the Royals will review the history of Kauffman Stadium with special presentations, videos and trivia during the pregame show and in-game events...fans will be able to get pre-game autographs from two alumni as a part of Signature Sundays and among the scheduled to appear will be Lynn and Jennifer Splittorff (widow and daughter of Royals Hall of Famer Paul Splittorff who threw first Royals pitch in stadium history), Whitey Herzog, Mayberry, Busby and Patek. TV TACK-ONS--Our partners at FOX Sports Kansas City will televise both ends of the split-doubleheaders that have been scheduled due to the pair of early postponements...those telecasts are now slated for 12:10 (KC time) on Friday, April 20 in Detroit followed later by the regularly scheduled contest at 6:10 p.m. (KC time), and then the April 1 snowout at home will be played on Saturday, April 28 with a 1:15 make-up game followed at 7:15 by the already scheduled affair though now starting an hour later. NOT JUST THE TEAM S 50TH SEASON--One common denominator with the Royals and this 50th season of baseball is Hall of Fame announcer Denny Matthews, who was in the booth with Buddy Blattner on April 8, 1969 and is once again calling the play-by-play as this milestone season gets underway...the Ford Frick Award winner in Cooperstown, NY in 2007, Matthews has been the one constant since the franchise came to be in 69...with this his 50th season, he trails only Los Angeles Dodger broadcasting icons Vin Scully (67 years prior to retiring) and Jaime Jarrin (59th season). AT THE HELM--The winningest manager in franchise history, Ned Yost is in his eighth full season with the club, taking the reins on May 13, he has a regular season record at the helm for the Royals, surpassing Whitey Herzog s previous team mark of 410 wins ( )...Yost is the 16th full-time manager in franchise history and is sixth among active managers in games (2,228) and wins (1,089)...his postseason winning pct. of.710 (22-9) is tops among all managers in history who have worked at least 20 playoff games...this is his second stint as a big league manager after nearly six full campaigns at the helm for the Milwaukee Brewers ( )...he compiled a record with the Brew Crew including a mark in his last two seasons...yost, a catcher during his playing days, began his coaching career in the Atlanta organization, including 12 straight seasons on Bobby Cox s big league staff ( ). RULE 5 ADDITIONS--The Royals opened 2018 with a pair of Rule 5 acquisitions on the roster with right-handed hurlers Brad Keller and Burch Smith...Keller, 22, was selected in last December s Rule 5 draft from Arizona by Cincinnati and then dealt to KC, while the 27-year old Smith was acquired from the New York Mets after being selected in the draft...keller spent the year in AA Jackson last year, while Smith has big league time with San Diego in INTERLEAGUE FOES--The 2018 campaign features Kansas City playing the National League Central in Interleague action, including home & home 2-game sets with Milwaukee and Cincinnati, a home & home 3-game series with St. Louis...also on the slate is a 3-game series in Kauffman Stadium against the Chicago Cubs (August 6-8) and 3-game road trip to Pittsburgh (September 17-19). vs. Mariners (2018) vs. Mariners (career) At Home (career) Hernandez (career) Paxton (career) Player AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI Butera Cuthbert Duda Escobar Gallagher Goins Gordon Jay Merrifield Moustakas Orlando Soler Starting Pitchers Breakdown Total KC Avg.
