The Sox trail the Royals by 11.0 games in the AL Central. Following this four-game series and an off day Monday, the Sox conclude the homestand with two games vs. St. Louis. The White Sox concluded the first half by winning two of three games vs. the Cubs at Wrigley Field they went 5-2 on their last homestand vs. Baltimore (2-1) and Toronto (3-1). TODAY S STORYLINES The White Sox are 9-3 (.750) since 6/30, the second-best record in baseball behind Pittsburgh (11-2,.846). Chicago pitching has allowed four runs on 23 hits over its last 41.0 IP (0.88 ERA) since the sixth inning on 7/8 vs. Toronto. Sox starters own a 2.13 ERA (20 ER/84.1 IP),.207 average (54-273) and 89 strikeouts over the last 12 games (10 QS) the 2.13 ERA since 6/30 is the lowest in the American League and third lowest in MLB behind the Cubs (1.49) and Mets (1.80). Chicago is 7-2 over its last nine home games. Jeff Samardzija is 2-0 with a 2.40 ERA (12 ER/45.0 IP) and 0.98 WHIP in his last six starts (7.0-plus IP in each outing) he has held the opposition hitless through 5.0 IP in his last two. ROSTER MOVE Prior to Game 1 of today s split doubleheader, the White Sox recalled RHP Frankie Montas from Class AA Birmingham he will be active for both games vs. Kansas City. Montas is 2-1 with a 2.47 ERA (20 ER/73.0 IP), one shutout, 62 strikeouts and a.205 average (53-258) in 15 starts (seven QS) with Birmingham this season he was named to the Southern League All-Star team and Futures Game World Team roster. He has no MLB experience and will wear number 60. SUNDAY S RECAP Jake Arrieta threw a complete game and limited the White Sox to just two hits in the Cubs 3-1 win. The Sox were limited to just one hit through the first five innings and did not have a baserunner advance past fi rst base until the sixth (Carlos Sanchez double). Jose Quintana suffered his ninth loss despite allowing three runs on eight hits with zero walks and nine strikeouts over 7.1 IP the outing was his ninth straight quality start. Adam Eaton drove in the White Sox only run with a bunt attempt in the sixth, scoring Sanchez Tyler Saladino (single) recorded the Sox only other hit the Sox were 0-1 with RISP. CELEBRATING THE 2005 CHAMPS The White Sox will celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the 2005 World Series championship team over the next four days. RUN RESTRICTION The White Sox are trying to limit the opposition to three runs or less for the fi fth consecutive game, which would mark their second-longest streak of the season (six straight, 6/16-21). Sox pitching has allowed just four runs over its last 41.0 IP, including a 30-inning scoreless streak from 7/8-11. The White Sox scoreless streak was their longest since a 31-inning stretch from 8/31-9/3/86.
