A er a scoreless first inning, Oakland grabbed the lead in the top of the second with solo home runs from Ma Olson and Ma Chapman. The A s added another run in the third inning on a RBI double by Jed Lowrie. The Tigers got on the board with a solo home run from Ian Kinsler in the third inning and added another run on a RBI single by James McCann in the fourth inning. Detroit put together a four-run rally in the fi h inning to take the lead. Alex Presley led off the inning with a solo home run to e the game and McCann gave the Tigers the lead with a two-run triple. José Iglesias brought home the fourth run of the inning with a RBI double. Oakland got a run back in the sixth inning on a RBI single by Mark Canha, but the Tigers responded with two runs in the bo om of the sixth on a two-run homer by Nicholas Castellanos. A er Oakland scored a run in the top of the seventh, the A s plated four runs in the eighth to take the lead on a Lowrie grand slam. The Tigers loaded the bases with one out in the bo om of the eighth inning, but were unable to push a run across. STREAKING: Nicholas Castellanos went 2x5 with a double, a home run and two RBI in last night s game to extend his hi ng streak to a career-long 16 games. During his current streak, Castellanos is ba ng.429 (27x63) with a OPS, nine doubles, five home runs and 18 RBI. Castellanos 16-game streak is the longest ac ve streak in the majors and is the longest by a Tigers player this season. PRESLEY PLAYS THE HITS: OF Alex Presley recorded the second four-hit game of his career last night vs. Oakland (other, September 2, 2017 vs. Cleveland). Presley also belted his second home run of the season last night, hi ng a solo shot in the fi h inning. Presley s homer was the 5,693rd hit in the majors this season, tying the record for most homers in the big leagues in a single season. Presley has hit safely in 16 of his last 18 games and is hi ng.364 (28x77) with eight runs scored, three doubles, two triples, one home run and three RBI. ROLLING SOLO: Tigers second baseman Ian Kinsler slugged his 20th home run of the season last night, a two-out solo shot in the third inning. Kinsler has hit 20-or-more homers in a season five mes in his career and in back-to-back seasons for the first me (28 in 2016). Of Kinsler s 20 home runs this season, 19 of them have been solo shots. Kinsler s only home run this season with runners on base was a two-run shot on September 10 at Toronto. Kinsler started the season with 16 consecu ve solo home runs, making him the first Major League player to begin a season with 16 straight solo homers since Cincinna s Kal Daniels started the 1987 season with 16 straight solo shots. Entering today s game, Cabrera is hi ng.328 (88x268) against Oakland with 49 runs scored, 19 doubles, 19 home runs and 62 RBI. Cabrera leads all ac ve players with a.419 on-base percentage and a.612 slugging percentage vs. the Athle cs, while he is third with a.328 ba ng average. HOW THE WEST WAS LOST: Detroit has posted a 9-23 (.281) record against American League West teams this season. Detroit s.281 winning percentage against UPCOMING GAME DETAILS the West this year is the lowest among all AL teams. SANCHEZ CAPTURES AL ERA CROWN: Sanchez ended the 2013 season as the American League leader with a 2.57 ERA (182.0IP/52ER) to capture the ERA crown. He became the seventh pitcher in Tigers history to capture the ERA tle and the first since Jus n Verlander did so with a 2.40 ERA in JOINS FELLER WITH FIVE LOW-HIT GAMES IN FIRST 155: Sanchez fired a one-hi er in his ou ng on May 24, 2013 against the Minnesota Twins, marking the fourth one-hi er of his Major League career to go along with his no-hi er on September 6, 2006 vs. Arizona. The ou ng was the 155th of his career and he joined Bob Feller as one of just two pitchers since at least 1916 to record five complete games allowing one hit-or-fewer in the first 155 games of their Major League career. Feller also posted one no-hi er and four one-hi ers during that span, recording his fi h with a one-hi er in the 139th game of his career on July 12, 1940 at Shibe Park against the Philadelphia Athle cs. HISTORIC STRIKEOUT PERFORMANCE VERSUS ATLANTA: Sanchez recorded 17 strikeouts over eight shutout innings in his ou ng on April 26, 2013 against the Atlanta Braves, establishing the franchise record for strikeouts in a single game. The 17 strikeouts surpassed the previous high of 16 strikeouts accomplished by Mickey Lolich in a complete game effort on May 23, 1969, against the California Angels at Tiger Stadium. Lolich also recorded 16 strikeouts over nine innings on June 9, 1969 against the Sea le Pilots at Tiger Stadium in a game that went 10 innings.
