1 Game #57, Road Game #26 Tuesday, June 6th BB&T Ballpark 7:05 PM Durham Bulls (35-21 / 1st) vs. Charlotte Knights (26-30 / 3rd / 9 GB) RHP Yonny Chirinos (6-1, 3.07) vs. RHP Reynaldo Lopez (5-2, 3.81) Tonight s Game The Bulls look to win their second straight game and clinch their series against the Charlotte Knights, Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, tonight at BB&T Park. The Bulls have gotten off to a hot start in June with a 4-1 record, with the team also winning six of their last eight after losing a season-worst five straight. The Knights meanwhile have now dropped six straight games dating back to game two of their doubleheader on May 31, which is one off their season-worst streak of seven straight losses from April Last Night Durham Bulls starting pitcher Blake Snell worked eight innings for the first time in his career Monday night, as the southpaw fanned seven while netting his third win in the Bulls 6-1 win over the Charlotte Knights at BB&T Ballpark. Snell (W, 3-0) only allowed a solo home run in the second en route to his longest start of his pro career. The lefty battled Knights starter Lucas Giolito through six frames, with Giolito fanning 11 while allowing just one run. The Bulls were able to break the game open against the Charlotte bullpen in the seventh however, with the team scoring three unearned runs to go ahead 4-1 en route to their 6-1. A Career-Night for Snell LHP Blake Snell did something he d never done in his starstudded minor league career Monday night, as the 24-yearold threw eight dominant innings while earning the win in Charlotte. The eight-inning outing broke Snell s previous careerhigh of seven innings which he d accomplished three times, most recently on May 12, 2015 while pitching for Double-A Montgomery. You Want More Snell? OK, Here s More Snell Snell has been steadily increasing his work load since joining the Bulls from Tampa Bay on May 19. The 6 4 Seattle native went from 5.1 to 6.1 to 6.2 to 8.0 innings pitched in his four starts with Durham. Snell had also been increasing his pitch count in every outing before taking a positive step backwards last night, with only 100 pitches needed to cruise through eight frames. Charlotte s Costly Errors The majority of Monday night s game was a great pitcher s duel between Blake Snell and Lucas Giolito. The Bulls were able to break the game open when the Charlotte bullpen took over in the seventh, but the real culprit was the Knight s defense. A throwing error by Charlotte shortstop Jose Vinicio opened the door for Durham s seventh inning rally, allowing the Bulls to score three unearned runs to snap the 1-1 tie and take a permanent lead. Bauers Must Really Like June Slugger Jake Bauers kept his perfect start to the month of June going Monday with a 2-5 night at the dish. Bauers has at least one his in all five games in June so far, with four of them being multi-hit performances. Overall, the left-swining outfielder is (.524) with a home run, double, and six RBI over the streak. Willy Loves RBIs Willy Adames finished Monday night 1-3 with a double, two RBI, and two walks, marking the fourth straight game and the fifth contest in the last six days in which the shorstop has put up a multi-rbi performance. The 21-year-old Dominican Republic native has a total of eight RBI the last six days, thanks to three games with two RBI apiece. The run-producing streak accounts for 30% of Adames 27 total RBI on the year. Prior to this week, Adames had collected just one total RBI over his previous seven games. Wong s Big Night Kean Wong put together one of his best offensive games of the season Monday night, with the Hawaiian second baseman going 3-4 with two RBI and a stolen base. The two-rbi performance is the first multi-rbi game of the year for Wong, while the three-hit game is the third time he s reached that plateau. Given his relatively small number of at-bats with the Bulls (102) due to a 12-game stint with Double-A Montgomery, the big night at the plate was enough to raise Wong s batting average 20 points ( ) and his slugging percentage 17 points ( ). Streaky Kind of Team The Bulls have been an increadibly streaky team since their 16-7 start to the season in April, with the club experiencing five seperate streaks of at least four straight wins or losses. May began with Durham running off four consecutive victories, before quickly rattling off four straight losses two days later. Following a 2-2 streatch over the next four games, the Bulls won a season-best five straight games but promptly lost a seasonworst five straight two days afterwards. The club just had a fourgame win streak snapped Friday night, the fifth time they ve won at least four straight this year. Smith Running Roughshod Through IL Speedster Mallex Smith stole two more bases as a part of his 2-5 game Monday, giving the 24-year-old 16 stolen bases on the year. Those 16 swiped bags are the most in the International League, despite the fact that Smith has played only 27 games with Durham this year. 17 BY THE NUMBERS Place in Southern Div 1st Games Behind (Division) 0.0 Games Behind (WC) 0.0 Current Streak W2 Home Road vs. RHP (starter) vs. LHP (starter) 9-5 vs. South Division 17-7 vs. North Division 11-8 vs. West Division 7-6 Day 3-7 Night (5:05+) Extra Innings 3-5 Shutouts 3-1 One-Run Games 8-4 Three or fewer Four or more 15-6 Scoring First Opponent Scores First Leading after Trailing after Tied after Series Openers 12-6 Series Finales 6-7 Rubber Matches 3-0 Doubleheader Games 3-1 Sweep/Swept/Split 1/0/1 2-Game Series (W/L/T) 1/0/1 3-Game Series 7-2 Sweep/Swept 1/1 4-Game Series (W/L/T) 4/2/0 Sweep/Swept 2/1 5-Game Series 0-0 Sweep/Swept 0/0 Monday 3-2 Tuesday 5-4 Wednesday 6-2 Thursday 6-1 Friday 5-3 Saturday 7-3 Sunday 3-6 April 16-7 May June 4-1 July 0-0 August 0-0 September BULLS vs. KNIGHTS Overall 6-2 DBAP 4-0 BB&T Ballpark Head-to-Head BULLS ALL-TIME RECORD Overall 6,384-6,098 International League 1,446-1,274 Upcoming Schedule and Probable Starters Date Opponent Durham Starter Opponent Starter time Wednesday, June Charlotte RHP Brent Honeywell (4-5, 5.10) RHP Tyler Danish (1-4, 3.66) 7:05 pm Thursday, June 8 vs. Norfolk RHP Jose De Leon (0-1, 6.00) LHP Chris Lee (2-3, 6.89) 7:05 pm Friday, June 9 vs. Norfolk LHP Ryan Yarbrough (4-3, 4.29) LHP Jayson Aquino (1-5, 4.62) 7:05 pm Saturday, June 10 vs. Norfolk LHP Blake Snell (3-0, 2.39) RHP Gabriel Ynoa (1-4, :35 pm Today s game will be broadcast on Buzz Sports Radio: 96.5 FM in Durham and 99.3 FM in Raleigh
