Cucamonga at High Desert, 6:35 Modesto at Inland Empire, 7:05 Visalia at Bakersfield, 7:15 Offensive Outburst San Jose s 10 runs scored last night matched a season-high (10-5 win vs. Bakersfield on April 16). The seven runs scored in the bottom of the sixth yesterday marked their highest-scoring inning of the year (previous high: four runs). Last night was also the largest deficit overcome by the Giants to win a game this season (six runs). Lost 9 Of 11 Despite last night s victory, the Giants enter tonight s contest having lost nine out of their last 11 games. Both San Jose wins during the 11-game stretch have come against Stockton last Sunday at Banner Island Ballpark (8-7) and yesterday (10-9). Last night s triumph snapped a fourgame losing streak for the Giants. San Jose has also lost 12 out of their last 15 games overall. In Search Of Back-To-Back Wins A victory tonight for San Jose would give the Giants their first back-to-back wins since the club took three straight games from April May Surge After hitting just.252 and averaging 3.5 runs per game in April, the Giants are batting.277 and scoring 5.1 runs per contest in May. San Jose is second in the California League in team batting average this month. Slater Ranks Seventh In Hitting Austin Slater brings a.330 batting average into tonight s game to rank seventh in the California League. Since beginning the season in a 5-for-28 slump (.179), Slater is batting at a.397 clip (25-for-63) spanning the last 15 games. Slater saw his 11-game hitting streak snapped with an 0-for-4 last night. It s the longest hit streak by a Giants player this season. Last year, Slater led the Short-Season Salem-Keizer Volcanoes with a.347 batting average. Bullpen Excels The Giants bullpen boasts an outstanding ERA of 2.44 this season. In last night s game, relievers Jake Smith, Mason McVay and Ian Gardeck combined to pitch the final 7 2/3 innings with just one earned run allowed and 11 strikeouts. The San Jose bullpen hasn t blown a save since the season opener (April 9 at Lancaster). The top three strikeout pitchers on the team are relievers: Smith (29), Gardeck (27) and Martin Agosta (24). Trouble In The Field The Giants have committed a league-high 40 errors this season. The Giants overcame a six-run deficit before holding off Stockton late to earn a wild 10-9 victory over the Ports last night. John Polonius three-run homer highlighted a seven-run bottom of the sixth inning as San Jose claimed the opener of the three-game series. Brian Ragira (2-for-4, HR, 3 RBI) also smacked a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to help lead the Giants offensively. Hunter Cole (2-for-3, 2 2B, SB), Dylan Davis (2-for-4, RBI) and Matt Pare (2-for-4, 2 RBI) added two hits apiece. Three Giants relievers Jake Smith, Mason McVay and Ian Gardeck combined to pitch the final 7 2/3 innings with just one earned run allowed and 11 strikeouts. Home/Road Splits San Jose is batting.283 as a team and owns a 3.11 ERA at home this season (5-10 record) compared to a.233 batting average and a 4.74 ERA on the road (4-10 record). The Giants snapped a season-high seven-game road losing streak with last night s victory. All seven of the losses during the streak came by one or two runs. Pitching Leaders Two Giants starting pitchers Chase Johnson (5th, 2.45) and Tyler Beede (8th, 2.63) rank among the top eight in the California League in ERA. San Jose s team ERA of 3.86 is fifth in the league. Ragira Rebounds First baseman Brian Ragira hit just.127 with no home runs and seven RBI s in his first 17 games this season (8-for-63), but since owns a.333 batting average (8-for-24) with two homers and six RBI s over his last nine games. Both of Ragira s home runs this year have come against Stockton. Last season, Ragira led the Giants in home runs (20) and RBI s (82).
