W LC LC THIS DAY IN CHIEFS HISTORY The Chiefs and Springfield are rained out at Busch Stadium in St. Louis Tyler Johnson strikes out a season-high 11 batters in just five innings en route to beating Burlington 6-4. ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Peoria Chiefs allowed three runs in the eighth inning and fell to the Quad Cities River Bandits 5-3 Wednesday night for their second loss in a row. The loss evens the Chiefs record at 3-3 as they head to Wisconsin to take on the TimberRattlers in a fourgame series beginning at 6:35pm Thursday. FIRST THINGS FIRST: Peoria got on the board in the first inning against Quad Cities starting pitcher Rogelio Armenteros. Magneuris Sierra legged out an infield single and advanced to second on a balk. RJ Dennard picked up his fifth RBI of the season when he extended his season hit streak to six games on a single to left, scoring Sierra. Yesterday s Game R H E LOB Quad Cities CHIEFS WP: Garza (1-1) LP: Bray (0-1) SV: Thome TIED UP: Quad Cities tied the game in the top of the third with back-to-back singles (1) HR: None by Aaron Mizell and Osvaldo Duarte. Chiefs starter Derian Gonzalez uncorked a wild pitch that ricocheted off the back stop and down the third base line scoring Mizell all the way from second base to tie the game at one apiece. DENNARD DELIVERS: The combination of Sierra and Dennard struck again in the bottom of the sixth. Sierra swung at strike three in the dirt, catcher Anthony Hermelyn could not corral the errant pitch and Sierra beat the throw down to first. Serra stole second and Dennard delivered his second RBI hit of the night as the Chiefs took a 2-1 lead. TIED AGAIN: Reliever Chandler Hawkins hit Pat Porter to start the seventh inning and after two groundouts that moved Porter to third, he gave way to Tyler Bray. Bray s wild pitch while facing Bobby Wernes, scored Porter to tie the game. AIKIN COMES THROUGH: The Chiefs regained the lead in the bottom of the seventh against reliever Ralph Garza. Jose Godoy led off with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch. He went to third on a groundout and scored on a groundout to second by Craig Aikin for a 3-2 Chiefs lead. BANDITS BREAKOUT: Bray quickly got the first two outs in the eighth before Kyle Tucker singled to left and Hermelyn singled to right. Porter drove a deep fly ball off the wall in right and the cutoff throw by Eli Alvarez hit Hermelyn in the leg near the plate allowing all three runners to score for a 5-3 Bandits lead. The Chiefs final chance came in the bottom of the eighth but Tucker made a leaping catch at the wall to rob Dennard of extra bases to end the inning with Casey Turgeon on first base. PITCHING IN: Gonzalez took a no-decision after allowing one run on two hits over five innings. He tied a career high with 10 strikeouts and walked one. Hawkins allowed one run on a hit batter and two strikeouts over 1 2/3 innings. Bray (0-1) took the loss allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits, a walk and a wild pitch in 1 1/3 innings while striking out one. Luke Harrison threw a perfect ninth inning with one strikeout. Notes: Dennard has hit safely in all six Chiefs games this season He has a team-high six RBI and a team-best four multi-hit games The bullpen had not allowed a run in 12 1/3 innings The Chiefs were 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and stranded five runners Gonzalez struck out 10 batters on August 15, 2015 in the Gulf Coast League The last Chiefs pitcher to strike out at least 10 in a game was Jack Flaherty with 12 strikeouts on August 6, 2015 against Lake County Edmundo Sosa got the sp night off, his first of the season ABOUT THE OPPONENTS: The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers joined the MWL in 1962 and last season they went overall with 23 wins in the first half and 27 in the second. In 2012 they won their first Midwest League Championship under the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers name. The franchise existed under various names from and the Fox Cities team won the MWL in 1964 and The Appleton Foxes squad won titles in 1967, 1978 and three consecutive titles from The Timber Rattlers are in their sixth season as a Milwaukee Brewers. Their past affiliations include Baltimore from , the Chicago White Sox from , Kansas City from and Seattle from The Chiefs are all-time against the Foxes/Timber Rattlers. In their history, the Chiefs are in the regular season and 2-0 in the playoffs against Brewers teams having faced them in Beloit from SEASON SERIES: The two teams will meet 20 times this season, 12 in Wisconsin. They will play again next week in Peoria April and then don t play until July 8-11 back in Appleton. The Chiefs will host the Rattlers July 30-August 2 and return to Wisconsin August Last season the Rattlers won the season series against the Chiefs 8-7. In 2014 the Chiefs were 9-9 against Wisconsin. In 2013 the Chiefs won the season series 11-6 going 5-2 in Appleton and 6-4 in Peoria with three walk off victories, two in extra innings. In 2012 as they won the league, Wisconsin won the season series 11-8 with a 7-4 mark in Appleton. Wisconsin also won the 2011 season series 8-7 including a 6-4 record in Peoria. In 2010 the Chiefs dominated the Rattlers 10-3 and are vs. Wisconsin since they became a Milwaukee affiliate. OPPOSING STARTER: RHP Jordan Yamamoto makes his second appearance and first start of the season for the rattlers. Last time out in game two of Sunday s double header he came out of the bullpen with three innings in which he allowed two hits and one run against Beloit with three strikeouts and one walk. Yamamoto spent the 2015 season with the Helena Brewers of the Pioneer League. He appeared in 14 games, starting 11 and posting a record of 1-6 with a 7.84 ERA and one save. He surrendered 99 hits, gave up 59 runs, struck out 59 while walking 22 batters in 62 innings of work. Yamamoto had six games where he struck out six or more batters. On July 10 and July 16, 2015 against the Grand Junction Rockies he posted back to back starts with seven strikeouts: his career high. His first professional win was on July 16 against Grand Junction. Yamamoto spent the 2014 season with the Arizona League Brewers where he appeared in 10 games, starting three and posting a record of 0-1 with a 4.47 ERA, giving up 22 hits, 12 runs, 22 strikeouts and 13 walks in 21 2/3 innings of work. Yamamoto was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 12th round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of the Saint Louis School in Honolulu, Hawaii. His senior season in high school he went 8-2 with a 1.49 ERA and winning the state championship. He defeated the Brewers 2014 first round pick Kodi Medeiros in the quarterfinals of the Hawaii High School Athletic Association state tournament 2-0. He originally committed to play baseball for the University of Arizona. This is Yamamoto s first appearance against the Chiefs or a Cardinals affiliate.
