Since their inception in 2009, the G-Braves are 4-1 on Opening Day, including a perfect 3-0 at Coolray Field and 1-1 on the road. Gwinnett s lone Opening Day loss came at the hands of tonight s opponent, the Durham Bulls the G-Braves dropped a 4-3 contest in 12 innings on 4/5/12 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park J.C. Boscan s solo home run gave Gwinnett a 3-2 lead in the top of the 12 th, but the Bulls scored twice in the bottom half (including the winning run on a fielding error by shortstop Greg Paiml) for the walk-off victory. Last year, the G-Braves defeated Charlotte in the season opener at Coolray Field on 4/5/13, winning 5-4 behind solid performances from left-hander Sean Gilmartin (win, 5.0 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 4 K) and shortstop Tyler Pastornicky (4-for-4, 2 doubles, run, RBI, stolen base). Snitker Era Begins: Former Atlanta Braves third base coach Brian Snitker is the new manager of the G-Braves in After spending the last seven seasons ( ) on the Major League staff, Snitker was named the third manager in Gwinnett history on 10/14/13 he follows Dave Brundage ( ) and Randy Ready (2013) at the post. This season marks his 38 th with the Braves organization dating back to 1977, as well as his 18 th campaign as a minor league manager. Snitker holds a career managerial record of (.499) over 17 previous seasons, including stops at every level in the Braves system he guided Advanced-A Myrtle Beach to back-to-back Carolina League titles in 1999 and 2000, earning the CL Manager of the Year award in both seasons. Prior to this year, his most recent managerial experience came in 2006 with Triple-A Richmond. Meet the Staff: Joining Snitker is pitching coach Marty Reed (4 th season), hitting coach Garey Ingram (1 st season), trainer Mike Graus (6 th season) and strength and conditioning coach Jason Curry (1 st season). Ingram, a Columbus, GA native, spent the past four seasons as the hitting coach at Double-A Mississippi his 2013 M-Braves club ranked third in the Southern League with a.251 team average. Bulls on Parade: Tonight marks the first of 21 meetings between the G-Braves and Bulls in Durham, the defending IL South and Governors Cup champions, handily won the season series 15-6 in Gwinnett went just 1-9 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park, earning the lone win in their final road meeting on 8/4/13 that contest saw LHP Yohan Flande (W, 8.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER) and LHP Ryan Buchter (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER) combine on a three-hitter in a 4-1 victory. Santana was signed to a one-year Major League deal on 3/12 and made two Spring Training starts for the Braves, going 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA (3 ER in 5.0 IP). Last season, he went 9-10 with a 3.24 ERA in 32 starts for the Kansas City Royals. In nine MLB seasons between the Royals and Los Angeles Angels ( ), Santana is with a 4.19 ERA in 268 games, 265 starts. The 2008 American League All-Star has also logged eight postseason appearances with the Angels, going 2-2 with a 5.56 ERA (2005, ). Gwinnett s record qualified for fourth place in the four-team IL South Division (27.0 games behind first-place Durham) and 14 th overall among the 14 IL teams (trailed 13 th - place Toledo by 1.0 game). The G-Braves opened the season with a 4-0 record, the best start by an Atlanta Braves Triple-A affiliate since the 1978 Richmond Braves also started the season 4-0. Following that home series sweep of Charlotte, however, Gwinnett went on to win just 56 more games over their next 140 contests. The club s 60 wins were the fewest by a Braves Triple-A affiliate since 2006, when Richmond went (.399) and also finished last in the 14-team IL. The start, his Gwinnett debut, will be his 135 th career minor league appearance, 130 th start. Currently on Atlanta s disabled list following 2013 Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, Floyd was assigned to MiLB rehab with Gwinnett today. Last Outing: This outing will be Floyd s first since suffering a season-ending elbow injury while pitching with the Chicago White Sox last season. He was removed from his last start on 4/27/13 after tossing 2.2 innings against the Tampa Bay Rays. Floyd fell to 0-4 with the loss, giving up two runs on two hits including Ben Zobrist s two-run homer. The Rays went on to a 10-4 victory. Vs. Durham: Entering tonight s outing, Floyd has made three career starts against the Durham Bulls, going 3-0 with a 3.60 ERA (8 ER in 20.0 IP) and one complete game.
