2 I just volunteered to be a KLL Manager Now what? Keystone Little League would like to thank you for your participation - Without your efforts our league, and its benefits to the children in our community, would not be possible. Please read this information, regarding a Coach s / Manager s Role, taken directly from Little League Online: Managing or coaching kids is a big, yet worthwhile responsibility. Significant time will need to be invested and KLL s goal is to provide you with as much assistance and guidance as possible. KLL recognizes that players benefit when managers and coaches receive consistent and standardized information & training geared toward skills development It is KLL s objective to provide training opportunities to those that volunteer for this role. These opportunities will be communicated via the KLL WebSite and / or via . KLL also provides Player Representatives at every level of play. These representatives will be responsible to communicate Little League and KLL specific information regarding the league objectives, rules and Manager / Coach responsibilities. The below information provides a framework for the standard information necessary for you to manage your team. As you will note, certain parts can only be updated as available; for example the spring game schedule will not be available until after the draft has been completed. General Information League, Team, Practices and Game Information: KLL will maintain a FAQ of many commonly received questions Please visit it before presenting your questions to your League s Player Representative. It is located here at the back of this manual. Each manager will be provided with a Little League Rules book as well as Keystone division ground rules Each Manager can have as many KLL certified volunteers as desired to assist with practices, etc.; however, only two formal coaches are provided with shirts and hats and are allowed in the dugout and on the field of play during games (note that for the younger divisions, KLL provides additional ground rules supporting on the field volunteers. o REMINDER: No non-player is allowed on the field unless they have met the KLL Certification requirements. All KLL Certified volunteers can be identified as they are required to wear a KLL provided lanyard which includes their KLL identification. Information regarding becoming a certified volunteer can be found here: League draft process summary: o SPRING ONLY: Tryouts for each division will be organized communicated to all players, parents and volunteers. Players will be evaluated during the tryout process. This information will be provided to those selected as managers before or at the draft for that division. o FALL ONLY: No tryouts are held. Managers are given a list of available players with their playing history. o With the exception of T-Ball, each division utilizes a draft process for player selection. o Each manager will receive a formal roster, including contact and medical information for each player the draft. Please print a copy of this information and place it immediately following the page marked Team and Player Roster of this manual. o Player and coach uniform / shirt information is taken from registration (for players) and volunteer request form (for managers/coaches). Distribute uniforms according to those provided. o Note that other various roster and / or volunteer documentation may be required different seasons require potentially different documentation. Your player representative will inform you of the specific requirements. o Your League Player Representative will make arrangements with you to pick up your team s equipment.

3 o You ARE responsible for this equipment. Please keep it clean and together, through the season, as well as to return it in good working order at season s end. Team shirt colors are provided at or shortly following the draft. Manager select the pants, belt, and sock color for their team and must communicate this to their player parents. Practice and game schedules will be communicated by your division Player Agent once finalized. Opening Day Ceremonies: SPRING ONLY: Opening day festivities will be scheduled prior to the season actual days / dates / processes will be communicated by your player representative. o All teams are expected to attend whether their team is scheduled to play or not. Sponsors and Donations: It is KLL s strong desire to have a sponsor for every team as without these sponsors the league must pay for player s uniforms. o Please query your player s parents and / or companies you may have relationships with for these sponsors. o Sponsors cost $250 each in spring and $125 in fall o Sponsor information and forms are located on the KLL WebSite and / or through your Player Representative. KLL uses monies received from Banner Sponsorships for league necessities; it is therefore critical to the league that we continue to ask for these donations. o Please query your player s parents and / or companies you may have relationships with for these sponsors. o Sponsor information and forms are located on the KLL WebSite. Keystone hires a photographer each spring season to take player and team photos to be purchased. Information regarding the date / time, photo options and costs will be communicated to you by KLL via blast and / or your player representative. Other Information: Field usage MUST be approved and scheduled by Keystone Little League Board member Please do not use fields unless you have approval to do so. All field access is controlled though the use of combination locks. The combination will provided to each manager at the beginning of the season and, as necessary if changes are required. The equipment shed, which contains rakes, chalk liner, etc. is controlled through the use of a coded lock box. Fields lights are managed by Field Maintenance and/bod members Steps to perform in case of an emergency are located on page under the KLL Emergency Procedures section of this manual. It is critical that you and your entire coaching staff, as well as parents and players understand these procedures Please review and contact your player representative or another member of the KLL Board of Directors should you have any questions.

4 Emergency Procedures The most important help you can provide to a victim who is seriously injured is to call for professional medical help. Make the call quickly, preferably from a cell phone near the injured person. If this is not possible, send someone else to make the call from a nearby telephone. Be sure that you or another caller follows these steps. 1. First dial Give the dispatcher the necessary information. Answer any questions that he or she might ask to the best of your ability. a. Most dispatchers will ask: The exact location or address of the emergency? Our address is: Ed Radice Park South Mobley Road Tampa, FL The entrance to the park is located off of South Mobley Road. The telephone number from which the call is being made? The caller s name? What happened i.e., a baseball-related accident, bicycle accident, fire, fall, etc.? How many people are involved? The condition of the injured person i.e., unconscious, chest pains, or severe bleeding? What help is being given (first aid, CPR, etc.)? 3. Do not hang up until the dispatcher hangs up. a. The dispatcher may be able to tell you how to best care for the victim. 4. Continue to care for the victim until professional help arrives. 5. If the injury is to a player and the parent / guardian is not at the field, appoint someone to call the parent / guardian Phone numbers are located on the roster given to the manager at the start of the season. 6. Appoint someone to contact the KLL Board of Directors (Use the Emergency Contact List found on the last page of this document). 7. Appoint someone to go to the street and look for the ambulance or fire engine and flag them down if necessary. This saves valuable time. Remember, every minute counts (Remember that they may also need assistance finding the location of the person injured). 8. Following all accidents, per Little League International, the following documents need to be completed and turned into the KLL Board of Directors: Little League Accident Form, available at AccidentClaimForm Lightning Safety 1. NO PLACE outside is safe when thunderstorms are in the area!! 2. Keystone uses the lightening detection siren located at the soccer fields to determine the need to stop play and vacate the fields. Move to a safe location if instructed by KLL personnel. a. If you hear thunder, and / or see lightning begin to listen carefully for the detection siren if it sounds (One long blast for Alert): 3. Immediately move your team, parents and anyone in your immediate area, to safe shelter. a. Safe shelter is a substantial building (the Concession Building) or inside an enclosed, metal-

5 topped vehicle. 4. Stay in safe shelter until the all clear siren sounds (Three blasts for all clear). Additional Safety Information: 1. KLL has an AED on site for use in the case of emergencies. It is located in the Electrical Room the door to which can be found on the side of the Concession Building facing Field #2 (Softball). Instructions for the AED are with it. 2. KLL has a First Aid kit and extra ice packs located in the Electrical Room. If you notice that the supply of ice packs (less than 3) or the supplies in the First Aid kit are low, please inform your Player Agent. 6 Keystone Division Ground Rules Available at Keystonell.org -> Information -> Baseball Rules Team and Player Roster A PDF of your team roster will be provide via to you. The team roster must be kept with you at all games and practices. It has medical and emergency contact information for each of your players. When distributing uniforms, provide players with the shirt size indicated on the roster. Sizes are not intended to match up to the uniform numbers desired. Giving players the shirt size they ordered is the priority. KLL Manager FAQ Can I make arrangements with another Manager in my division to switch practice dates / times? o Yes Once both managers agree upon the change, please inform your Player Agent. Can sponsors submit logos for Shirt backs? o No, currently Sponsor information placed on the back of shirts is standard block lettering only. How many games does my team play? o Fall league One game, one practice per week. o Spring League Two games; 1 weekday, 1 weekend (Please note that this may vary slightly in the younger divisions. Please check with your player agent). The KLL Board President and board members may hold a Town Hall Meeting to address any / all parent questions / concerns regarding the upcoming season.
