Starter Daniel Norris fell to 4-7 on the year aer allowing five runs on seven hits over 4.0 innings with four walks and two strikeouts. San Francisco took a 2-0 lead in the 3rd inning on three hits, including an RBI single by Jae-gyun Hwang. The Giants scored three more in the 4th inning on an RBI single by Brandon Belt and a two-run triple by Hunter Pence to make it 5-0. The Tigers made it interes ng in the 7th inning, pla ng four runs on five hits. Victor Mar nez delivered a two-run single, Ian Kinsler followed with an infield RBI single, and Nicholas Castellanos drove in a run on a sac fly to cut the lead to one. But the Tigers le men in scoring posi on in the 7th and 8th and couldn t complete the comeback. TRANSACTIONS: Prior to today s game, the Tigers placed LHP Daniel Norris on the 10-day disabled list with a le groin strain and recalled LHP Blaine Hardy from triple-a Toledo. MR. 2,000: Tigers designated hi!er Victor Mar nez enters today s game one hit shy of 2,000 for his career. FROM JETER TO TETER: A big congratula ons goes out to Tigers assistant athle c trainer Doug Teter, who has been invited to join the American League training staff for the 88th MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 11th in Miami. Teter is in his 12th Major League season with the Tigers and 25th in the organiza on. This will be his first-career MLB All-Star Game appearance. He will be joined on the AL staff by Nick Paparesta, head athle c trainer of the Oakland Athle cs, and Jose Vazquez, strength and condi oning coach for the Texas Rangers. WEST SIDE STORY: With their 5-4 loss to the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday night, Detroit fell to (.303) against teams from the West this season (7-17 vs AL West, 3-6 vs NL West). The Tigers are (.540) against all other divisions in Detroit has only one winning season versus the AL West over the last seven years (since 2010; in 2014). In their last Interleague season against the NL West in 2014, the Tigers went 10-6 (.625). Detroit has six games remaining against AL West opponents this season (3 vs HOU, 3 at TEX) and seven versus the NL West (1 vs SF, 3 vs LAD, 3 at COL). He became the seventh pitcher in Tigers history to capture the ERA "tle and the first since Jus"n Verlander did so with a 2.40 ERA in JOINS FELLER WITH FIVE LOW-HIT GAMES IN FIRST 155: Sanchez fired a one-hi#er in his ou"ng on May 24, 2013 against the Minnesota Twins, marking the fourth one-hi#er of his Major League career to go along with his no-hi#er on September 6, 2006 vs. Arizona. The ou"ng was the 155th of his career and he joined Bob Feller as one of just two pitchers since at least 1916 to record five complete games allowing one hit-or-fewer in the first 155 games of their Major League career. Feller also posted one no-hi#er and four one-hi#ers during that span, recording his fi!h with a one-hi#er in the 139th game of his career on July 12, 1940 at Shibe Park against the Philadelphia Athle"cs.
