Have won at least two of their first three games for the second time since 2012 (also 2-1 in 2016). Have won at least three of their first four games just once since 2004 (started 3-1 in 2011). Their +5 run differential is tied for second in the AL, trailing only the White Sox (+8). Won their first two games of a season for the first time since 2011 snapped their six-game Opening Day losing streak on Thursday, notching their first OD win since 3/31/11 vs. Detroit had been the longest such losing streak in franchise history and the longest active losing streak in the Majors. YESTERDAY'S NEWS: On Saturday, the Yankees had their twogame season-opening winning streak snapped at Toronto, falling 5-3 Yankees batters were outhit, 9-4, with all four of their hits going for extra bases (2HR, 2 doubles) LHP CC Sabathia started and took a no-decision, allowing 2R/1ER in 5.0IP (5H, 2BB, 4K) LF Billy McKinney (0-for-0) suffered left shoulder AC sprain and was removed from the game after colliding into the LF wall attempting to catch a Josh Donaldson double in the bottom of the first 1B Tyler Austin (2-for-3, 2HR, 3RBI) accounted for all of the Yankees' runs with a tworun HR in the fifth and a solo HR in the seventh, marking his first career multi-homer game RF Giancarlo Stanton (1-for- 3, 1 double, 1BB) reached safely twice RHP Adam Warren (0.2IP, 1ER, 1BB) was removed from the game after taking a comebacker to the right ankle (x-rays were negative) RHP Dellin Betances (2.0IP, 3H, 2ER, 1BB, 4K, 1HR) took the loss. FOR STARTERS: Yankees starters have posted a 1.08 ERA (16.2IP, 2ER) over their first three games this season, the fifthbest mark in the Majors have allowed a.153 batting average against, second in the AL and third in MLB (MIN-.053; SF-.132). With RHP Luis Severino tossing 5.2 scoreless innings on Thursday, RHP Masahiro Tanaka allowing 1ER in 6.0IP on Friday and LHP CC Sabathia allowing 2R/1ER in 5.0IP on Saturday, marks the first time in franchise history since earned runs became an official statistic in the AL in 1913 that all three Yankees starters over the first three games of a season each allowed 1ER or fewer. DOUBLE TROUBLE: With 1B Tyler Austin hitting 2HR in Saturday's loss at Toronto and OF Giancarlo Stanton hitting 2HR in the season opening win on Thursday at Toronto, it marks just the second time in franchise history that Yankees players tallied multiple individual multi-hr games within the club's first three games of a season (also 1932, when Babe Ruth and Sammy Byrd each hit 2HRs in the season opener 4/12/32 at Philadelphia) the earliest into a season the Yankees have tallied three multi-hr games by individual players was 1990, when Mike Blowers, Dave Winfield and Jesse Barfield accomplished the feat within the club's first 13 games. Eight of Austin's nine career HR have either tied the game or given the Yankees the lead. BABY BOMBERS: Despite having no rookies, the Yankees Opening Day active roster's average age was 28 years, 150 days, the club's youngest since at least 1993 marks the third consecutive year that the Yankees average age on Opening Day was under 30 years old ( in 2017, in 2016) every Yankees Opening Day roster from averaged over 30 years old. Just seven of the 25 players were 30 years old or older more than half (13-of-25) of the Yankees' current active roster were born in the 1990s. NEW SKIP ON THE BLOCK: Manager Aaron Boone won his first game as an MLB manager on Thursday at Toronto became the 11th manager to win his Yankees managerial debut on Opening Day, and the fourth consecutively, following Joe Girardi in 2008 vs. Toronto, Joe Torre in 1996 at Cleveland and Buck Showalter in 1992 vs. Boston is the 18th manager to win his Yankees managerial debut at any point in a season. According to Elias, he and his father, Bob, are the third father-son duo to serve as Major League managers, following George and Dick Sisler and Bob and Joel Skinner. Each of the previous five Yankees managers have won their home Yankees managerial debuts (Girardi-2008, Torre-1996, Showalter-1992, Merrill-1990 and Dent-1989). EARLY BIRDS: The Yankees are 5-2 all-time in March prior to 2018, had played only four games during the month: 3/31/03 win at Toronto, 3/30/04 loss and 3/31/04 win vs. Tampa Bay in Tokyo and 3/31/11 win vs. Detroit. Thursday's season opener (3/29) marked the earliest regular season game in Yankees history. Seven of the Yankees' first 10 games of 2018 have a scheduled start time of 4:07 p.m. or earlier. GOING, GOING, GIAN: OF Giancarlo Stanton went 3-for- 5 with 3R, 1 double, 2HR and 4RBI in his Yankees debut in Thursday's win at Toronto according to Elias, is just the second player in Yankees history to homer twice in his first game with the club, joining Roger Maris, who began his 1960 AL MVP Award-winning season by going 4-for-5 with 2R, 1 double, 2HR and 4RBI on 4/19/60 at Boston. Became the seventh Yankee to hit 2HR on Opening Day, the first since Joe Pepitone on 4/9/63 at the Kansas City A's. His first-inning home run to right field was measured with an exit velocity of mph, the hardest-hit oppositefield home run in the history of Statcast his ninth-inning homer to center was measured at mph in 2017, 48 of his 59HR had an exit velocity of at least mph. Was the first player to homer in his first plate appearance as a Yankee since Tyler Austin and Aaron Judge did it in consecutive at-bats on 8/13/16 vs. Tampa Bay. In six career games at Rogers Centre, is 10-for-23 (.435) with 7R, 4 doubles, 5HR, 8RBI and a OPS. OPENING DAY FESTIVITIES: The Yankees will play their 116th home opener on Monday vs. Tampa Bay, marking their fourth all-time home opener vs. the Rays (are 3-0, with wins in 2017: 8-1; 2007: 9-5; and 2002: 4-0) gates will open to fans with valid tickets beginning at 10:00 a.m. festivities will begin at approx. 12:30 p.m. with baseline introductions, followed by the presentation of colors by the West Point Cadet Color Guard, including a giant American flag unfurled in the outfield to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the 1978 World Series championship club, 1978 WS MVP Bucky Dent and Mickey Rivers will throw out the ceremonial first pitches Tony Award-winning actress Kelli O Hara (currently starring in Così Fan Tutte at The Metropolitan Opera) will perform the national anthem, and Patti Murin from Broadway s Frozen will perform God Bless America during the seventh-inning stretch all guests will receive a Yankees magnetic schedule courtesy of AT&T guests are strongly encouraged to arrive as early as possible to avoid lines that will increase in length as game time approaches.
