4 This & That SHIRTS OFF THEIR BACKS SET FOR SATURDAY--Royals Charities will once again host Shirts Off Their Backs which will benefit the local Kansas City charity, HappyBottoms...cccurring earlier in this season, the event will take place this Saturday for the 6:10 game against the New York Yankees... Shirts Off Their Backs gives fans the opportunity to win an autographed jersey right off the back of their favorite player...royals Charities will join HappyBottom volunteers to sell $1 instant-win scratch tickets...following the game, the winners will be escorted to the field where they will receive a game-worn jersey directly from a Royals player or coach. THIRD-FASTEST TO 20 WINS--With the win last night, this year s Royals team matched the 1973 club as the third-fastest to reach 20 victories on the year with both doing so in their 31st game...only in 2003 (29) and 1976 (30) did Kansas City need fewer games to win its 20th, while this year s club is the first since 2003 to need less than 35 contests to become a 20-game winner. BETTER STARTS SO FAR--While a small sample size, Kansas City s starting pitching has been much better on this road trip than it was in the previous homestand...all three starters in the recently completed series with Detroit worked at least 6.0 innings, which included Jeremy Guthrie tossing a season-high 7.1 frames...the staff s starters have posted a 2.79 ERA (6 ER in 19.1 IP), compared to a 4.76 ERA (18 ER in 34.0 IP) on the last homestand (April 30-May 7). TOP RUN DIFFERENTIAL IN THE A.L.--Kansas City didn t gain much ground in run differential last night, but continue to lead the America League having outscored their opposition by 47 runs this season (an average of 1.52 per game)...the Royals lead the American League over the Yankees (+30) and surprising Houston Astros (+20), the only three teams who are 20 runs or better on the plus side...kc is tied with I-70 rival St. Louis (+47) for second in the Majors in run differential, behind the Los Angeles Dodgers (+51). REWARDING RISP--Kansas City was not given many run scoring opportunities last night, but continue to lead American League with a.310 batting average (86-for-277) with runners in scoring position, just behind Atlanta (.318) for the Major League lead...kc is also slugging an MLB-best.509 with RISP...the club has been even better in recent games, batting.360 (40-for-111) with RISP since April 27 with eight doubles and five homers...among A.L. hitters, Salvador Perez ranks fourth, hitting.438 (14-for-32) in scoring opportunities, while Kendrys Morales (.361) ranks 18th and Alcides Escobar (.353) and Eric Hosmer (.353) tied for 21st. EXTENDED STAY ON THE HORIZON--After completing this seven-day road trip, the Royals will return to Kansas City Friday to begin a 10-day, eight-game homestand...kc will get its first shot at A.L. East competition as the New York Yankees make their annual trip to Kauffman for a weekend set, May the Royals will then open Interleague play with two games against the Cincinnati Reds (May 19-20) and three vs. their I-70 rivals, St. Louis (May 22-24)...last season, the club went 15-5 against the National League, which included three wins in four games against the Cards. TWO-OUT PRODUCTION THE KEY--The secret behind KC s start might be the club s difference in two-out production...through its first 31 contests, the Royals lead the Majors, hitting.304 (110-for-362) with two outs and are also first in two-out hits (110), slugging (.459) and are second to Arizona in two-out RBI in the Majors (63)...the club is also second in MLB with a.309 average (43-for-139) with runners in scoring position with two down...on the flip side, KC s pitching staff has been at its best with two outs as the Royals lead the A.L. with a 2.85 ERA (27 ER in 85.1 IP) and have also allowed the fewest runs (32), the third-fewest hits (68) and the second-lowest slugging pct. (.304) in the Junior Circuit with two down. DAVIS WINNINGEST OUT OF PEN--Wade Davis is the winningest relief pitcher in the American League over the last two seasons and tied for the Major League lead with Miami s Bryan Morris and Pittsburgh s Tony Watson...Wade has collected 11 victories since returning to a bullpen role at the outset of the 2014 season...he recorded his 11th triumph on April 17, getting eighth inning in the Royals come-from-behind win over the Oakland A s...with All-Star closer Greg Holland on the disabled list until recently, Davis filled in as the team s closer and recorded six saves in six chances...since the beginning of 2014, Davis has an 11-2 ledger with nine rescues and a 0.84 ERA (8 earned runs in 86.0 innings) while limiting opposing hitters to a.144 mark, third-best in the Major Leagues...since June 27 of last year, Wade has been even better, going 6-0 with an 0.52 ERA (3 ER in 52.1 IP), a.153 opponents average and strikeouts per 9.0 innings. NED CLOSING IN ON WHITEY--The 16th full-time manager in Royals history, Ned Yost, is the franchise leader in games managed with his 1,765 games on the bench overall are 67th all-time, just five behind Billy Southwick for the 66th spot...ned has posted a mark as KC skipper, just 17 victories shy of tying Whitey Herzog (410) as the winningest manager in team history... he s also 11 wins away from second-place Dick Howser (404)...Yost was named to his post on May 13, this is his second stint as a big league manager after nearly six full campaigns at the helm for the Milwaukee Brewers ( )...he compiled a record with the Brew Crew including a mark in his last two seasons...ned s 850 career wins are good for 72nd all-time. vs. Rangers (2014) vs. Rangers (career) On Road (career) Lewis (career) Martinez (career) Player AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI Butera Cain Colon Dyson Escobar Gordon Hosmer Infante Morales Moustakas Orlando Perez Starting Pitchers Breakdown Total KC Avg.
