1 2017 Burke Baseball Volunteer Responsibilities Gate Volunteers (Legion Season Only) This position will sit at the gate to the ball field and take money from spectators. Player parents, siblings, and Grandparents will be provided Bulldog Passes for entrance into all home games. If you are the first game of the day, arrive 1 hour prior to the start of the game, otherwise report at time provided on the sign-up. Count the money in the gate bag. Report the balance, sign and date. The money should be double counted by an additional person (usually a concessions worker or Team Coordinator). Sit at the gate and take money until the 2 nd half of the 5 th inning. If working a tournament, do not leave until the next person arrives, unless it is the final game of the day. Count the money in the gate bag. Record the new balance on the form, sign and date. Have another person double count the money. Return the gate bag to the concession stand or your Concession Team Representative.
2 Concession Volunteers The concession stand is staffed with a minimum of two (2) workers for each game. The concessions workers prepare for the game, sell during the game, and close the stand at the end of the game. Arrive 30 minutes before start of game. If working a tournament arrive at shift time on the schedule. Prepare for the opening of the concession stand with the Team Concessions Representative: Receive the money box from Concessions Team Representative Count money box and record balance, sign and date (both workers) Make popcorn (instructions on machine) Take hotdogs and hamburgers (including buns) out of the refrigerator for grilling (there should always be meat thawed and ready to go for the next game). Review pricing and food availability. Work with the griller to have enough burgers and dogs but try not to have many left at the end of the game. As slush drinks are sold, continue refilling liquid as the slush machine will have trouble keeping up with the slush if too much liquid is added at one time. Announce reduced pricing for hamburgers and hotdogs if necessary at the beginning of the final inning (ensure you have food for the umpires). Any remaining can be given to players. No children under the age of 14 are allowed in the concession stand. If children 13 or older are helping they need to be supervised by a parent. They are not to handle any monetary transaction. Gloves should be worn any time food is being handles. Coaches are allowed a meal deal for each home game Umpires are allowed a meal deal after their game During tournament time, players are allowed one meal deal per day during their scheduled work shift. Please make sure paying customers eat first. If running low on food, team coordinator or concession volunteers can determine the food players can eat (ie hot dog vs. hamburger) If you notice a supply, food, drink, etc. is getting low, please communicate to your Concession Team Representative. Closing the concession stand: Wash dishes and wipe down counters Clean out popcorn machine Fill slush machine to the max fill line Restock cooler with drinks and water (the cooler must be full at the end of the game prior to closing) Clean bathrooms (toilets and sinks). Toilet paper, soap, paper towels should be refilled as needed. Empty trash in bathrooms and concession stand and replace with new trash bags. Trash bags should be taken to the dumpster by the school. Count the money in the box (both workers). Record the new balance on the form, sign and date. Money box should be given to the Concessions Team Representative.
3 Grill Volunteers This position is responsible for grilling burgers, hotdogs, and other meats on the gas grill. Check in with concessions workers and begin grill preparations Verify you have enough thawed burgers/dogs and buns Ensure grilling utensils are clean Pull grill away from building to prevent fire Make sure propane tank is attached and there is enough propane in the tank Turn grill on medium Scrape grates to make sure there is nothing that could end up on the food RAW food goes in one pan and COOKED food goes in another pan do not mix If you touch raw food, change gloves before touching cooked food Cook on medium heat to avoid charring any food. Cook the same amount of time on both sides. Dogs should be cooked until they are marked and 1st sign of bubbling. Burgers must be good to medium well for food safety. Do not overcook or undercook. Cook less more often rather than a lot at once to avoid old food. Coordinate with Concession Workers on how many burgers and dogs to cook. The goal is to have only a couple left at the end of the game (enough for umpires). During Tournament games ensure there is enough food to serve players if there are back to back teams playing. Ensure refrigerator has burgers and dogs thawing for the next game(s) check schedule to see when next game is at the field o burgers o hotdogs Scrape all grates Turn off grill, use degreaser/sanitizer to clean grill Let Concession Team Representative know if more propane is needed.
