Apalachee High School Baseball Behavior Contract Apalachee High School Baseball Rules The following must be read and signed by both the player and a parent/guardian in order to participate in the baseball program at Apalachee High School. It is very important for each person who reads this document to understand that the coaching staff at Apalachee High School bases its decisions concerning the baseball program in the following order of questions: 1. What is best for Apalachee High School? 2. What is best for the baseball program? 3. What is best for the individual player or players? 1. The coaching staff will treat each player with the utmost respect, and the players will always show respect to the coaching staff. Disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated. 2. You are expected to be in attendance and on time for every meeting, practice and contest held during the season. Unexcused absences and tardiness will not be tolerated. Only those reasons for excused absences from school are permitted: illness, death in family, etc. Any other absence must be pre-approved by the coaching staff. If you check out of school during the day, make sure you tell a coach. Unexcused Tardies (after 1 hour, you are considered absent) 1 st offense 3 minutes 2 nd offense 6 minutes 3 rd offense 12 minutes 4 th offense 12 minutes and poles 5 th offense 12 minutes/no Start
Excused Tardies (after 1 hour, you are considered absent) 1 st offense Free Pass 2 nd offense 3 minutes 3 rd offense 6 minutes 4 th offense 9 minutes 5 th offense 12 minutes *I will not punish a player for an excused tardy that has to do with after school tutoring of any kind. If a player needs extra help in the classroom, we prefer they try to work with that teacher before school, but if after school is the only time, then it will not count against them. Unexcused Absence 1 st offense 6 minutes 2 nd offense 12 minutes 3 rd offense 12 minutes/no Start 4 th offense Parent conference/ Excused Absence 1 st offense 6 minutes 2 nd offense 6 minutes 3 rd offense 12 minutes 4 th offense 12 minutes 5 th offense 12 minutes/no Start *If a player is sick on consecutive days, that will count as 1 day being missed.* 3. We will be having practices and/or games over spring break. Make sure that you will be at all practices, games, and meetings over the break. 4. Players are not allowed to use inappropriate language. Appropriate consequences may be given at the discretion of any of the coaching staff.
5. All players will wear uniforms correctly. Pants pulled up to waist and shirt tucked in at all times. All bangs should be tucked under your hat. 6. No throwing of Helmets or any other equipment in anger/disgust is tolerated. Appropriate consequences will be given should this action occur. 7. No player will argue with an umpire at any time. If a call needs to be questioned, the COACH will talk to the umpire, not the player. 8. No earrings or any other jewelry are allowed on the baseball field at any time. 9. The coaching staff reserves the right to tell you if your hair is too long and if you need to get a cut. 10. We will hustle on the field at all times. This includes running to your position each inning, running into the dugout at the end of each inning, running back to the dugout after a strikeout, and running back after you make an out. Hustle will get you a long way; you never know who is watching. 11. Wear the team practice stuff during practices. You are given practice shirts; I expect Apalachee baseball attire to be worn and our baseball hat to be worn. Not a hat from another team or shirts that represent another team. 12. Stay out of trouble! If you have ISS or OSS, you cannot participate that day in either practice or a game. This counts as an UNEXCUSED ABSENCE and the appropriate consequence will be given. 13. No eating in the dugouts! Seeds and gum are fine, but we are not going to have a 4 course meal in the dugout! 14. All players are assigned a duty after each practice and game. These duties are expected to be followed. 15. Parents are NOT ALLOWED in the Dugouts! If a player gets injured and a parent wants to check on them, that s fine. 16. Players are NOT ALLOWED to leave the dugouts during the game unless it is to chase a foul ball or to use the bathroom. Players are not to talk to anyone outside the fence during games. 17. Social media such as facebook and twitter can be viewed by anyone in the general public, and therefore can contain information that could be an embarrassment to the school and/or program. Any information posted that is considered detrimental to the school or baseball program by the baseball staff is prohibited.
18. Parents, please understand that you are the biggest supporters of not only your son, but the program as a whole. It is easy to get disgruntled, which in turn, can lead to badmouthing the program, coaches, or other players. Please refrain from talking bad about the program while in the stands, or anywhere on the premises of the facility. Negativity is the one killer to building a strong cohesive unit. Your sons look at how you act as a guide for how they should act. Please support your son, love him, and encourage him to work hard. If you have a question and would like a meeting, here is protocol: a. All discussion should focus on individual questions or concerns. b. The performance and ability of other players will not be a subject of discussion. This is contrary to our team values of mutual respect and support. c. Before leaving any meeting, be sure to clarify and summarize your thoughts and feelings. This will ensure that everyone involved has a clear understanding of the meeting's outcome. d. Do not attempt to confront a coach before or after practice/ game. These are emotional times for coaches and parents. Meetings of this nature do not promote resolution. THINGS NOT APPROPRIATE TO DISCUSS: Team strategy Play calling Playing time Team position Other student athletes FOUR STEP ACTION PLAN STEP 1. The concerned player should approach his immediate head coach to schedule a time to discuss his questions or concerns. If the player does not feel comfortable and satisfied with the outcome of this meeting, he should move forward with Step 2. STEP 2. The concerned player should request a meeting involving himself, his immediate Head Coach and the Varsity Head Coach. If the player does not feel comfortable and satisfied with the outcome of this meeting, he should move forward with Step 3. STEP 3. A meeting involving the player, the necessary Apalachee baseball coaches and parent(s)/guardian(s) should be requested via . This should include a brief explanation of the player/parent concerns. If this meeting does not resolve the situation, the player and his parents should then move forward with Step 4. STEP 4. A meeting should be requested involving the player, appropriate Apalachee baseball coaches, parent(s)/guardian(s), and the Athletic Director. If all the parties involved are still not comfortable with the outcome of this meeting, additional alternatives should be discussed to resolve this matter. Ex. Add Building Principal to the next meeting.
I have read and understand the policy as stated for the Apalachee Baseball team. I will do my best to follow and abide by this policy. Please sign Player Signature Date Parent Signature Date
