Central, while possessing a 9-game advantage over third place Detroit. WACKY WAY TO END FIRST HALF--KC wrapped up its pre-break work with a crazy win at home over the Blue Jays to give the Royals an 8-3 homestand, featuring a 2-2 split with Minnesota, 4-0 roll vs. Tampa Bay and 2-1 weekend against Toronto...Kansas City saw a 7-0 lead turn into an 8-7 deficit in the sixth inning on Sunday, but with the game knotted at in the eighth, Paulo Orlando clubbed his second game-winning homer of the week...the 8-run sixth frame by the Jays marked the third time the Royals allowed eight runs in an inning in the last 30 years and still managed a victory. ALL-STAR RECAP--Manager Ned Yost led the A.L. charges to a 6-3 win over the National League on Tuesday night in Cincinnati, thus assuring the American League champ the home field advantage in this year s World Series for a third straight year...the Royals performed well in Tuesday s affair, with Lorenzo Cain making an MVP bid with two hits, including a double and RBI, while Alcides Escobar added a single...starting catcher Salvador Perez was 0-for-2, but reached on a wild pitch after striking out, and reliever Wade Davis fanned a pair and allowed a hit in the eighth inning...mike Moustakas, voted in by the fans in the Final Man Vote, was summoned to pinch hit in the ninth off of Aroldis Chapman and K d, then finished the game at third. PLENTY OF DAY BALL--Today s first game marks the sixth day game for the Royals in their last nine contests, posting a 4-1 mark to this point...by the time this series ends on Sunday, Kansas City will have played eight of its last 13 games under the sun with day tilts awaiting both tomorrow and Sunday. BACK HOME MONDAY--Kansas City returns to Kauffman Stadium for an odd 6-game stay beginning Monday when the Pittsburgh Pirates hit town...it s an odd stay, because what was initially an off day next Thursday after the Buccos leave is now a one-day journey to St. Louis for the make-up of a June 14 rainout in Busch Stadium... KC will then return home for a 3-game set with Houston...this stop in Chicago ignites a stretch in which the Royals are on the road for 15 of its first 21 after the break. THE K THE PLACE TO BE--Sunday s homestand finale crowd of 31,962 was the 31st gathering in excess of 30K this year, highlighted by 13 sellouts...the Royals have already announced that based on advance sales for 2015, that single-game sales have cracked the 2,000,000 mark for the first time since 1991 and the 12th time in team history...the Royals eclipsed the 1,000,000 mark in turnstile attendance in their 31st home date of the year, the fastest the franchise has ever drawn seven figures... Comeback Player-of-the-Year award. OUTDUELED BY BUEHRLE--Chris appeared three times during KC s 8-3 prebreak homestand, but wound up going winless with a pair of losses and a no decision...the most recent was a 6-2 loss to the Jays and Mark Buehrle last Saturday afternoon...c.y. was charged with three runs, allowing five hits with two walks and four strikeouts, pitching into the seventh inning...he did not allow a hit over his first 3.0 innings, but gave up a leadoff single to Jose Bautista and a two-run homer to Edwin Encarnacion in the fourth, which handed Toronto a 2-1 lead...he also surrendered a leadoff hit to Kevin Pillar in the seventh, ending his afternoon after 6.0 innings, plus one batter...meanwhile, Buehrle held the Royals to two runs over his 7.0 frames...c.y. completed 6.0 innings for the third time in his last four starts, but is looking for his first win since a 3-2 triumph in Oakland on June 27. HITS SCARCE WHEN C.Y. HURLS--Chris is holding opponents to a.203 average, which is second-lowest among qualifying A.L. pitchers, behind only Oakland s Sonny Gray (.198)...he s been especially tough on right-handed hitters, holding them to a league-best.168 batting average (26-for-155) and a.207 on-base percentage...among active pitchers that have worked at least 1,000 career innings, his 953 hits allowed are the second-fewest to Miami s Mat Latos (904), while his career.225 opponents batting average is second-lowest in that group, behind only Clayton Kershaw (.210). NIGHT AND DAY--Chris looks to change his luck in afternoon starts, entering today with at 1-3 with a 5.61 ERA (21 ER in 33.2 IP) and.233 opponents average in his daytime outings...conversely, he s 6-2 with a 1.35 ERA (8 ER in 53.1 IP) and opponents hitting.182 against him under the lights...this is a reversal from his previous career splits as he entered 2015 with record and a 3.04 ERA in day games and was with a 4.11 ERA at night. CHISOX--Chris makes his third start and fourth overall appearance against the Sox this afternoon, entering at 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA...he tossed 1.2 hitless innings out of the bullpen here on April 24...his last start against Chicago came in 2005, when he earned a 6-2 win as a Texas Ranger, allowing one run on six hits over 8.0 frames. BETTER LUCK ON THE ROAD--C.Y. enters today with the third-best road ERA (1.62) among Major League pitchers who have worked at least 35.0 innings... Chris has gone 3-1 in his five road starts, winning at Minnesota (2-0), Milwaukee (7-2) and Oakland (3-2) last month...he s posted a record with a 4.06 ERA and a.234 opponents batting average in 105 career starts and 110 outings away from home.
