1 2018 SCCPSS KICKBALL CUP OFFICIAL RULES OFFICIALS 1. Officials will be provided by SCCPSS Athletics Department. They are not professional referees, so please be courteous to them, as they have the authority to remove you from the event. PARTICIPANTS 1. Must be registered (paid and waivers signed). 2. Should have health insurance. 3. Must be properly dressed to allow freedom of movement. 4. Are not allowed to wear metal cleats. THE FIELD 1. The field shall be equal to the dimensions of a softball field. 2. The kickball diamond is a square with equal sides of 60 feet or about 20 paces with a base at each corner. 3. Bunt lines are 30 feet from home plate that extend perpendicular to the base line to the pitcher s mound. a. Only the kicker is allowed inside the bunt lines until the ball is kicked.

2 TEAMS 1. Teams should have a minimal 10 players- maximum number of players is not regulated. 2. Teams must have at least 3 female players. 3. Teams must have at least 10 different kickers (no max). a) Teams with less than 10 kickers will receive outs in the place of missing kickers. 4. Teams can play with the minimal of 7 players (3 being female) from their roster, but outs will be assumed in place of missing players. 5. Minimal 2 females required in the infield. 6. Teams must have a pitcher and catcher unless playing with Every player present kicks in the designated kicking lineup. Kicking out of order results in an out for the kicker that kicked out of turn. 8. Players that are late are added to the end of the lineup as long as they arrive before the start of the 4 th inning. BASE COACHES 1. Are optional. 2. Cannot touch the ball in play or interfere with the defense or kicker is out. 3. Cannot physically assist runners or runner is out. GAME PLAY 1. Tournament games will consist of 7 innings or 60 minutes. 2. Top of the inning that started after minute 50 shall be the last inning of regulation. 3. Rock, Paper, Scissors or coin flip will determine home and away. 4. Tie Breakers: If the score is tied after the last inning of regulation, kicking teams will begin with last kicker from the previous inning on second base. a. This runner cannot be pinch ran for and the inning starts with no outs. b. If last kicker was an automatic out to end the previous inning, the inning will start without the runner on second base. PITCHING 1. Ball must be pitched by hand only. 2. Pitcher must start the pitch on the mound, in the circle, or on the rubber. 3. Pitches can be any speed or spin, but do not have to be kicked. 4. Pitcher must stay at or behind the pitchers line until the ball is kicked. 5. Pitcher cannot cross the pitching line until ball is kicked.

3 FIELDING 1. Proper field positioning must be maintained while the pitch is in progress and until the ball is kicked. a. Infield positions: Catcher, Pitcher, 1 st Base, 2 nd Base, Short Stop, 3 rd Base. b. Outfield positions: Right field, Right-Center, Left-Center, Left field. 2. Infielders must remain within the fair territory and behind the defensive bunting lines. 3. Catchers must be positioned behind the kicker and may not interfere with the kicking action. 4. Outfielders must remain in the grass until the ball is kicked. KICKING 1. The kicking line up must be provided to the opposing Coach / Captain at time of pre-game conference. 2. All kicks must be made with the foot or lower leg (below the knee) only or else foul ball. 3. Any ball touched by the foot or leg below the knee is considered a kick. 4. Contact with the pitch must be made within 1 step or foot (12 inches) of the plate in any direction. 5. Infraction is a foul ball or result of play (defense choice). 6. Bunting is permissible. 7. Defensive bunting lines in place to protect bunters. Lines are connected between pitching mound and 1 st and 3 rd base lines. 8. Double touch of the ball results in a foul ball. 9. ICING THE PITCHER: If you watch 3 good pitches (referee discretion), you are out on strikes. RUNNING / SCORING 1. Runners must stay within 3ft of the baseline/vice versa for fielders. Exceptions are made when rounding bases at full speed. 2. Interference to the runner results in a safe to base (catcher making contact with kicker during kicking action or a fielder impeding the baseline). If referee deems that runner could have another base as a result, another base can be awarded. 3. A kicker may run through 1 st base, but they must show intent to advance to 2 nd base to be considered in play. 4. Runners must be in contact with the base until the ball is kicked. 5. Stealing bases are not allowed at any time. 6. Base runners leading off or leaving early while a player is kicking will be called out, and play is dead. Kicker must re-kick.

4 RUNNING / SCORING (continued) 7. Runners that contact the ball between the bases will be called out. a. Legal contacts are: tagging the runner with the ball (and non-force plays), contacting the base while in possession of the ball (force plays), or thrown/kicked balls that contact the runner. b. Head shots (above the shoulders) are not allowed. i. Runners that slide, duck, dive, etc. are exempt to the head shot rule and will be called out if a thrown/kicked ball contacts the head or shoulders while sliding, ducking, diving, etc. c. If a runner is hit in the head, the runner will receive the intended base plus one extra. d. If runner is heading home, another base runner at the same time gets an extra base, 8. Tagging up is permitted. As soon as the defensive player touches the ball a runner may leave the base. It does not have to be a clean catch. 9. Ties go to the runner. 10. NO running past another runner (passing runner will be out) 11. Runs scored = Baseball rules. 12. In the event a runner and fielder collide in the base path or on the base, the runner is automatically safe (unless the fielder has the ball in clear possession) and could be awarded the next base if deemed necessary by referees. 13. Any attempt to drop an infield pop up to turn a double or triple play will not be allowed and if more than one out is made, only LEAD runner will be out. 14. There will be NO SLIDING allowed into first base when running from home plate unless there is a safety base and slide must be made into safety base. 15. All kickers running through 1B must use the safety base or they will be called out. Runners looking to round the base can use the inside base. OUTS 1. Three outs per kicking team per inning. 2. One out occurs if: a. a kicker watches three good pitches b. a kicked ball is caught by any fielder c. a runner is contacted by ball between the bases, leads off of a base, passes another runner, is assisted by a base coach, travels outside the baseline, misses a base, or advances to the next base before a caught ball and does not tag up. d. a player kicks out of order e. a player kicks 3 foul balls during the at-kick

5 STRIKES 1. A good pitch (a ball that travels through the strike zone) that is not kicked. 2. There is no combination of strikes or fouls; the play is either a strike or a foul. 3. A swing and a miss is a strike. FOULS 1. The ball must stay in between the 1 st and 3 rd baselines, but after the bases it can roll out of the foul line and still be fair. 2. If the ball ever touches a defensive player in fair territory, ball is fair. If ball ever touches a player in foul territory then ball is foul. Where ever it is first touched determines if it is fair or foul. 3. If a player is standing in fair territory and reaches into foul territory to touch the ball, it is a fair ball. BALL IN PLAY 1. Ball in the pitchers hand in the vicinity of the mound will end play. a. If advancing runners are at least halfway to the next base, they may continue. The Referee will determine if the runner was at least half way and assign the runner to a base. 2. Fielding players can kick the ball at a base runners to obtain an out. Any ball touching a base runner is an out as all balls in play are live balls. 3. Play ends when: a. The pitcher controls the ball in the vicinity of the pitcher s mound, circle, or rubber b. The fielding team throws/kicks/deflects a live ball over fence or into a dugout. i. Each base runner will be awarded the intended base plus an additional base. SUBSTITUTIONS AND INJURIES 1. All injuries must be reported to the referee immediately. 2. All present players kick in the designated lineup. 3. In the event of an in game injury, player may be removed without penalty (as long as game minimum requirements are met) and cannot reenter the kicking lineup. 4. Free and unlimited subs allowed in the field. 5. One defensive switch per position, per inning (pre-pitch). Players can move within their designated areas (infield and outfield) after the ball has left the pitchers hand. PINCH RUNNING 1. Pinch runners must be of same gender. 2. Limited to one per inning.
