LHP Carlos Rodon, who is winless over his last six starts (last win on 5/22 vs. Kansas City), takes the mound for the White Sox. The Sox are 2.0 games off the pace for the second wild card. Following this three-game series vs. New York-AL and an off day Thursday, the Sox will fi nish the fi rst half with three interleague games vs. Atlanta (7/8-10) at U.S. Cellular Field. Chicago won two of three games at Houston over the weekend after going 4-2 on its last homestand vs. Toronto and Minnesota. TONIGHT'S STORYLINES Chicago is looking to extend its winning streak to four, its longest since 5/6-9 (also four), and move four games over.500 for the fi rst time since 6/1 (29-25). The Sox are looking to win fi ve consecutive series for the fi rst time since 8/12-28/13 (also fi ve). The White Sox are hitting.297/.353/.511 with 21 home runs and 65 runs scored (5.4 R/G) over the last 12 games they have recorded six-plus runs and 10-plus hits seven times. Tim Anderson is hitting.353 (18-451) with four doubles, three homers, seven RBI, one walk and 10 runs scored over his last 11 games (seven multihit efforts; hit safely in 10 contests). Carlos Rodon is 0-2 with a 3.89 ERA (15 ER/34.2 IP), 1.44 WHIP and 37 strikeouts during his six-start winless stretch. YESTERDAY'S RECAP Chicago scored eight unanswered runs and extended its winning streak to three games with an 8-2 win over New York. Following Chase Headley's two-run homer in the second inning, Tim Anderson tied the game with a two-run shot in the third Brett Lawrie (sacrifi ce fl y) and Dioner Navarro (two-run homer) gave the White Sox the lead in a three-run fi fth. James Shields (2 ER/6.0 IP) earned his second consecutive win with the Sox Chicago relievers combined to work 3.0 scoreless IP Nate Jones struck out a season-high three. The White Sox 1-5 hitters combined to go with three doubles, one homer, four RBI and six runs scored Todd Frazier went 3-3 with two doubles and a RBI. The win marked the fi rst by the Sox by more than three runs since 5/13 at the Yankees (7-1). LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL The White Sox are 10-4 (.714) over their last 14 games since 6/20, tied for the third-best record in the major leagues... the Sox have won all four series since 6/20. By contrast, the club went 4-11 in the previous 15 games from 6/3-19, including just one series victory and two sweeps. A breakdown of Chicago's pitching and offense since 6/20: Gms. W-L ERA ER IP SO QS R R/G HR AVG OBP SLG MORNEAU ON ASSIGNMENT Justin Morneau went 0-2 last night as the starting DH vs. Pawtucket in his first injury rehab game with Class AAA Charlotte. Morneau signed with the White Sox as a free agent on 6/9 and was placed on the disabled list to continue his recovery from offseason surgery to repair the primary fl exor in his left elbow. STARTING POINT White Sox starters own a 3.00 ERA (9 ER/28.0 IP),.167 opponents average (16-96), 0.85 WHIP and 20 strikeouts over the last four games (three quality starts). Sox starters have worked 7.0 IP in four of the outings, and limited the opposition to two earned runs or less three times. LONGBALL LOGISTICS Chicago has hit 23 home runs over the last 13 games since 6/21, including 18 solo shots by contrast, the club connected on 24 home runs in the previous 26 games from 5/23-6/20. The White Sox hit 15 straight solo homers from 6/24-7/2, tying the longest stretch in club history (also 9/2-25/65) the Sox tied the club record with seven homers (all solo) on 6/25 vs. Toronto. Chicago is when hitting a home run, 16-6 in multihomer games and when going homerless in LET'S GET WILD The White Sox currently trail Toronto (46-39) by just 2.0 games for the second spot in the American League Wild Card race. Following games on 6/19, Chicago was 6.5 games behind Kansas City for the second AL Wild Card spot, trailed seven teams in the WC race and owned the fi fth-worst record in the AL. WHITE SOX VS. NEW YORK YANKEES Chicago is 2-2 this season but has outscored the Yankees, the team is hitting.275/.342/.458 with fi ve homers and owns a 2.65 ERA (10 ER/34.0 IP) with three quality starts. The Sox are looking to win consecutive games vs. New York for the fi rst time since 5/22-23/14. The White Sox are 4-12 over the last 16 games and 6-15 in the last 21 the club is 10-4 in the last 14 contests in Chicago. Chicago is over the last 12 season series since 2004, with the only win coming in 2012 (5-2). The White Sox trail in the all-time series, 816-1,059 the Sox are at home (52-55 at U.S. Cellular Field) and on the road (7-20 at new Yankee Stadium). YANKEE DOODLES Adam Eaton is hitting.443/.500/.574 with fi ve doubles, one home run, six RBI, six walks and 11 runs scored in 15 career games vs. the Yankees (hit safely in 14; nine multihit efforts). Jose Abreu has hit safely in 13 of his 14 career games vs. New York-AL he has hit two homers with 11 RBI. Robin Ventura ( ), Melky Cabrera ( ), Dioner Navarro (2004) and David Robertson ( ) played for NYY. 1-2 PUNCH Tim Anderson (No. 1) and Adam Eaton (No. 2) have combined to go (.316) with 11 doubles, three triples, five home runs, 16 RBI and 33 runs scored in 20 games since being moved to the 1-2 spots in the lineup on 6/13. Anderson owns 11 multihit efforts and Eaton has recorded nine during the 20-game stretch (Chicago is 12-8). DYNAMITE DEBUT Tim Anderson has hit safely in 18 of his 23 career games (12 multihit) since making his MLB debut on 6/10 vs. Kansas City. Anderson and Gus Zernial (1949) are the only White Sox to record 12 multihit efforts in his fi rst 23 career games since He is hitting.329/.338/.571 with fi ve doubles, fi ve homers, eight RBI, 12 runs scored and a.909 OPS in his last 15 games. OUT GOES FRAZIER Todd Frazier ranks third in MLB with 23 home runs, trailing Kris Bryant and Mark Trumbo (24 homers each). Bill Melton (1971) and Dick Allen (1972 and '74) are the only players in club history to lead the American League in homers no Sox player has ever led the majors in home runs. Frazier is on pace to hit 45 homers, which would be the second-most in club history behind Albert Belle's 49 in CLOSE CALLS Forty-four of the White Sox 83 games in 2016 have been decided by one or two runs, including 11 of the last 17 the Sox are in one-run games and 10-6 in two-run contests. Eighteen of the Chicago's last nineteen victories since 5/19 have been by three runs or less. SALE-ING TO 14 Chris Sale on Saturday became the fi rst 14-game winner in MLB, surpassing his win total from last season (13-11) and leaving him just three shy of his career-high 17 in His 14 wins are the fourth-most in White Sox history before the All-Star break, and the most since Wilbur Wood won 16 in the fi rst half in 1974 the last American League pitcher to win 14-plus in the fi rst half was Toronto's David Wells in 2000 (15). He leads the American League with IP and a 0.98 WHIP (1st, 0.98), is tied for the lead in CGs (3) and ranks third in ERA (2.93), strikeouts (118) opp. AVG (.214) and opp. OPS (.602). QUALITY AND QUANTITY The White Sox have made 1,202 quality starts since 2003, second-most in the majors behind the Mets (1,213). The Sox rank fourth in the American League with 45 quality starts in 2016 Chris Sale and Jose Quintana are tied for second in the AL with 12 quality starts this season.
