RUN PRODUCTION: The Cubs have scored 53 runs in the first six games of this homestand, including at least 11 runs in three of the first four games (42 runs total) prior to this homestand, the team had scored 27 runs in 11 games from April 25-May 6 (2.5 runs per game). QUALITY STUFF: After beginning the season with just seven quality starts and a 5.27 ERA (57 ER/97.1 IP) in the club s first 19 games, Cubs starting pitchers have gone 7-5 with nine quality starts and a 2.58 ERA (28 ER/97.2 IP) in the last 17 games Cubs starters have held the opponent to a.208 average (73-for-351) in the last 17 contests, as well as a.664 OPS. WILLY AT-BAT: Willson Contreras, who yesterday turned 26, collected 26 total bases in a three-game stretch, Wednesday-Saturday, going 10-for-15 with three doubles, two triples, three homers, 11 RBI and five runs scored. Contreras on Friday set a career mark with seven RBI, going 4-for-5 with two homers (including a first-inning grand slam), two doubles and two runs scored in an 11-2 win over the White Sox he s just the fifth Cubs catcher since the RBI became an official stat in 1920 with at least seven RBI in a game, joining Ed Bailey (8 RBI, 7/22/65 vs. PHI), George Mitterwald (8 RBI, 4/17/74 vs. PIT), Barry Foote (8 RBI, 4/22/80 vs. STL) and Geovany Soto (7 RBI, 8/26/08 at PIT). BÁEZ AT THE DISH: Javier Báez leads the N.L. and is tied for second in the majors with 36 RBI he ranks second in the N.L. in slugging percentage (.613), third in extra-base hits (23), tied for third in total bases (87) and tied for fifth in home runs (10). FIRST THING FIRST: The Cubs scored five runs in Friday s first inning, plated four runs in the opening frame on Saturday and yesterday scored two runs in the first inning the team s 34 runs in the first inning are its most in any frame this season, just eclipsing it s 31 runs in the seventh inning.
