14 Suarez s seven strong not enough in Sacramento s 4-1 loss River Cats offense stunted as Fresno completes sweep West Sacramento, CA The Sacramento River Cats (32-50) had a high-spirited Raley Field crowd on hand for their Independence Eve matchup against the Fresno Grizzlies (46-38). That energy didn t translate to the field, however, as the River Cats dropped their fourth straight, falling 4-1. Andrew Suarez was on the hill for Sacramento tonight making his fourth start of the year and second against Fresno. The left-hander did his part against the Grizzlies, going seven innings with his four earned runs coming in four separate innings. Two of those four runs came from solo home runs by Yuba City native Max Stassi. Suarez showed his command by throwing first pitch strikes to 19 of 28 batters he faced tonight while racking up eight strikeouts. The River Cats offense was unable to back up Suarez s efforts however, scoring just one run on a Justin Ruggiano sacrifice fly. Left fielder Chris Shaw s extended his hitting streak to six games with a ninth-inning double off the wall. Shaw finished the game 1-for-2 with two walks and is hitting.500 with a double and four home runs in his last five games. As a team, however, the Sacramento River Cats now own a.170 batting average through three July games (16-for-94). Sacramento will hit the road to take on Albuquerque for a three-game series starting tomorrow night. Jose Flores (0-0, 0.00) will make his first start of the year for the River Cats and lefthander Sam Howard (1-1, 5.12) will get the call for the Isotopes. 15 Squirrels Skunked In Reading; Phils Complete Sweep Richmond Coming Home For Independence Day Festivities Reading, PA - The Reading Fighting Phils (50-30) completed a four-game sweep over Richmond on Monday, defeating the Flying Squirrels (33-49) 8-3 at FirstEnergy Stadium. Reading pulled away by batting around in a five-run, sixth inning. The Squirrels lost five consecutive games to close out the eight-game road trip. Richmond will return to The Diamond for three games filled with Independence Day festivities. Tuesday, July 4 is sold out at The Diamond, however, tickets are still available for Wednesday and Thursday. A full rundown of promotions can be found here. Gates open at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Cory Taylor stared the finale in Reading for Richmond and utilized his two seam fastball early and often. Taylor faced just one batter over the minimum in the first three innings, picking up seven early ground ball outs Richmond grabbed a 1-0 lead off of Reading starting pitcher Cole Irvin in the top of the fourth inning. With two outs, Dylan Davis launched a solo home run deep over the right field wall. It was Davis' fifth home run of the season and first of the series. The Squirrels lead was short-lived as Reading rallied for a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth. Angelo Mora began the inning with a base hit and Carlos Tocci reached on a walk. A wild pitch advanced both runners into scoring position, allowing Kyle Martin's groundout to second to tie the game, 1-1. Jiandido Tromp then added an RBI base hit for a 2-1 advantage. Taylor used 29 pitches in the inning and was at 71 pitches overall after the fourth.

16 Taylor pitched into the sixth, but did not record an out in the inning. Reading struck for five runs, sending 11 batters to the plate to take a 7-1 lead. Tocci opened the inning with his second home run in as many games and Kyle Martin and Tromp followed with base hits to chase Taylor. Vic Blackrelieved Taylor and yielded a three-run home run on his first pitch to Mitch Walding. It was Walding's league-leading 20th homer of the season and first of the season. Black walked three and allowed another run before striking out Martin to end the inning. Taylor (2-7) suffered the loss in his 14th start of the year. The righty allowed five runs on eight hits. He walked one and did not strike out a batter in the loss. Irvin (2-0) lasted seven innings in his second Double-A start to earn the win. C.J. Hinojosa clobbered a two-run homer off of Irvin in his final inning. The lefty allowed three runs on eight hits. He walked one and struck out three. Richmond will begin a three-game homestand on Tuesday against the SeaWolves at 6:35 p.m. RHP Dan Slania is scheduled to make the start against Erie RHP Beau Burrows. The Flying Squirrels have announced that the July 4 contest has been sold out. Tickets are still available for Wednesday, July 5 and Thursday, July 6. Individual tickets, mini plans and group packages for the season are available by contacting the Flying Squirrels box office at or online at Giants Earn 3-1 Victory, Split Series In Modesto San Jose defeats Nuts behind Watson's gem MODESTO, CA - Grant Watson tossed seven strong innings and Jonah Arenado drove home a pair of runs to lead the San Jose Giants to a 3-1 victory over the Modesto Nuts on Monday evening at John Thurman Field. With the win, San Jose (36-46 overall, 6-6 second half) earns a split of the four-game series. Watson (2-1) scattered seven hits and allowed just one run over his career-high seven innings on the mound to pick-up the win. The left-hander walked four, struck out four and also pickedoff two runners. Will LaMarche (1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 SO) and Dylan Rheault (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 SO) then tossed scoreless eighth and ninth innings respectively out of the bullpen to seal the victory. Rheault earned his eighth save of the year. Arenado (2-for-4, 3B, 2 RBI) delivered a go-ahead RBI single in the top of the fourth before a run-scoring triple in the sixth to lead a nine-hit Giants offensive attack. T.J. Bennett (3-for-3, RBI) also had three singles and an RBI as part of a perfect night at the plate. Modesto's only run of the contest came in the bottom of the first. Braden Bishop led off with a double to deep center before moving to third on an Eric Filia fly out. Chris Mariscal followed with a single into center plating Bishop for a 1-0 Nuts lead.

17 San Jose would tie the game with a single run in the third. With two outs, Ronnie Jebavy singled before stealing second. Bennett then lined a single into right center bringing home Jebavy to tie the score 1-1. The Giants then took their first lead of the night in the fourth. Gio Brusa led off with a double into the left center field gap before advancing to third on a Dillon Dobson groundout to first. Arenado was up next and he blooped a single into shallow right to score Brusa for a 2-1 San Jose advantage. Meanwhile, Watson settled in after after allowing the early run. He pitched around a one-out walk in the bottom of the second and a leadoff single in the third to keep Modesto off the scoreboard. After the Giants took the lead, Jordan Cowan led off the bottom of the fourth with a bunt single, but was promptly picked-off at first. Then with two down, Rayder Ascanio singled, but Watson also picked him off. With the score still 2-1, Watson worked through a scoreless bottom of the fifth before San Jose extended their lead in the top of the sixth. Dobson led off with a towering fly ball off the fence in center for a triple. Arenado then hit a sharp grounder down the left field line and into the corner for another triple as Dobson scored to make it 3-1. Arenado's triple was his first of the season. Areando though was stranded at third base when the next three Giants hitters were retired. Watson returned to the mound for the bottom of the sixth and allowed a leadoff single to Luis Liberato. Watson though induced the next hitter, Willie Argo, to ground into a double play before Cowan also grounded out to retire the side. In the bottom of the seventh, Ascanio drew a one-out walk, but Bishop and Filia were both quickly set down to end the inning. LaMarche took over in the bottom of the eighth with San Jose still in front by a 3-1 margin. Mariscal led off the inning with a single to bring the potential tying run to the plate, but Gianfranco Wawoe followed by grounding into a double play. LaMarche then struck out Liberato to complete the inning. Rheault then breezed through a bottom of the ninth to close out the Nuts. Rheault registered a strikeout of Argo before Cowan grounded out and Nieto lined out ending the game. Spencer Herrmann (3-2) suffered the loss out of the Modesto bullpen after yielding two runs (both earned) on four hits over three innings. Herrmann entered the game to begin the top of the fourth after Nuts starter Anthony Misiewicz pitched the first three innings with one run allowed. Notes * The Giants out-hit the Nuts 9-8.

18 * Watson has won his last two starts combining for 12 2/3 innings with two runs allowed. His previous career-high in innings pitched was six (three times last season with Class-A Augusta). * San Jose improved to 8-3 at John Thurman Field this season. * Arenado hit his first triple since April 28, 2015 with Augusta. * Bennett has hits in six straight at-bats (all singles) going back to Sunday's game. * The Giants are now 12-1 in the final game of a road series this season. * Monday's attendance was 5,399 - the third-largest crowd in John Thurman Field history. On Deck The Giants open a seven-game homestand on Tuesday evening with the first of three straight contests against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. First pitch for the Fourth of July game at Municipal Stadium is scheduled for 6:30 PM. Matt Krook (3-7, 6.05 ERA) is slated to start on the mound for San Jose while Rancho Cucamonga is expected to counter with Devin Smeltzer (1-2, 3.90 ERA). The game is a sellout, but will be televised live on Comcast Hometown Network (Channel 104/819).
