The Dodgers, who defeated the Washington Nationals, 3-2, in the Division Series, will play the Cubs in L.A. tomorrow night at 5:08 p.m., and, if necessary, Games 6 and 7 would be played at Wrigley Field in Chicago this Saturday and Sunday. Last night s 6-0 victory in the club s 200 th playoff game gave the Dodgers consecutive shutouts for the first time in franchise postseason history. The Dodgers are making their 11 th appearance in the National League Championship Series and first since 2013, when they lost, 4-2, to the Cardinals. Los Angeles, which is making its fourth NLCS appearance in the past nine seasons since 2008, has gone 5-5 in its previous League Championship Series, advancing to the World Series in 1974, 1977, 1978, 1981 and The Dodgers lost the season series against the Cubs, 3-4, but took two of three from the Cubs in L.A. Urías was dominant after the All-Star break during the regular season, going 4-0 with a 1.99 ERA (9 ER/40.2 IP) in 10 games (seven starts). Dodger pitchers have been dominant thus far in the NLCS, limiting the Cubs to a.161 batting average (15-for-93) with 25 strikeouts in 26.0 innings. The Dodger hurlers have posted a 2.77 ERA overall (8 ER/26.0 IP) and a 1.08 (3 ER/25.0 IP) mark if you take out the Cubs five-run eighth inning in Game 1. The Cubs and Dodgers have combined to hit.197 (37-for- 188) in the series thus far, which would be the lowest ever for an NLCS. He has reached base safely in all eight postseason games this year, batting.320 (8-for-25) with a.500 on-base percentage, six runs, a triple, two homers and six RBI. He has posted a.391/.500/.696 slashline in 15 career postseason games, going 18-for-46 with eight runs, six doubles, a triple, two homers and 10 RBI. Turner s overall postseason on-base streak stands at 13 games, which ties him with Steve Garvey ( ) and Pee Wee Reese ( ) for the second-longest streak in Club history, behind a 14-game run for Carl Furillo ( ). The Dodgers combined to hit 189 home runs during the regular season, their most since 2004 (203 HR), including seven grand slams - the third most in Los Angeles history, behind 2004 (10) and 2000 (9). HARDBALL SEASON: Dodger closer Kenley Jansen recorded the last four outs last night and notched his first-ever six-out save Sunday night. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Jansen is the first pitcher in Major League history with 189 or more regular-season saves to record his first 2.0-inning save in the postseason. Jansen has tossed scoreless relief in 14 of 16 career postseason games, while converting all eight of his save opportunities. His eight saves are a franchise playoff record. 2 ROSTER ROUNDUP: The Dodgers have 13 position players and 12 pitchers on their NLCS roster, supplementing their Division Series roster with the additions of left-handed pitcher Alex Wood and infielder/outfielder Kiké Hernández. The Dodgers have six rookies - Grant Dayton, Kenta Maeda, Corey Seager, Ross Stripling, Andrew Toles and Julio Urías on their National League Championship Series roster. FOUR-PEAT: The Dodgers won the NL West for the fourth straight year, marking their 15th overall division title, as the club reached the postseason in four consecutive seasons for the first time in franchise history. Los Angeles is playing October Baseball for the seventh time in 11 years and for the 30 th time in franchise history (21 st time in LA). The Dodgers are the first team in NL West history to win the division in four consecutive seasons. The last MLB team to win four straight division titles was the Detroit Tigers ( , AL Central) and the last NL club to do so was the Philadelphia Phillies ( ). Dave Roberts, a top candidate for NL Manager of the Year, joined Tommy Lasorda (1977) as the only rookie managers ever to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers to a division title, while President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman and General Manager Farhan Zaidi assembled their second division champion in as many seasons with the club. The Dodgers won 90+ games for the fourth consecutive season, a feat that had only previously been accomplished once in franchise history, (6). NEXT MAN UP: The Dodgers used a franchise record-tying 55 total players and 31 different pitchers (both records originally set last year) on a club that saw 28 different players spend time on the DL, the most for any team in the last 30 years since at least HILLTOPPERS: Dodger pitchers set a single-season MLB record with 1,510 strikeouts during the regular season, shattering the previous mark of 1,450 Ks by the 2014 Indians. In addition to strikeouts, Los Angeles pitchers ranked among the big league leaders in ERA (3.70, 5 th ), WHIP (1.19, 2 nd ) and opponents batting average (.233, 2 nd ). THE PEN: Dodger relievers picked up two of Los Angeles three wins in the NLDS, while posting a 2.82 ERA (7 ER/22.1 IP), limiting Nationals hitters to a.173 batting average (13-for-75) and striking out 28 in 22.1 innings. The Dodger bullpen stranded 18 of 22 inherited runners in the series (91.8%). Against the Cubs, Dodger relievers have struck out 11 batters in 9.0 innings while limiting the opposition to a.206 average (7-for-34). During the regular season, the Dodger bullpen combined to set a franchise record with innings pitched and 607 total appearances, both of which led the Majors. The pen ranked among the MLB leaders in ERA (3.35, 2 nd ), opponents batting average (.221, 2 nd ), strikeouts (633, 1 st ) and WHIP (1.16, 2 nd ). THE FINISHING TOUCH: Kenley Jansen, who earned the first All-Star selection of his career in 2016, notched a career-high 47 saves (T-2 nd, MLB), while ranking among the NL relief leaders in ERA (1.83, 2 nd ), opponents batting average (.150, 1 st MLB), WHIP (0.67, 1 st MLB), strikeouts (104, 5 th ) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (9.45, 1 st ). During the campaign, Jansen also established new Dodger franchise marks in saves, finishing the year with 189 after surpassing Eric Gagné (161), and strikeouts as a reliever, with his 632 Ks eclipsing Jim Brewer s mark of 604. THE ONE AND ONLY: It was fitting that the Dodgers clinched their division championship with a walk-off victory on Sunday, Sept. 25: Vin Scully s final home game. The Hall of Famer called his final game in the club s season finale, Oct. 2 at San Francisco, retiring after 67 years and 9,000+ Dodger games. The team thanked Scully for his service with Vin Scully Weekend, which kicked off with an Appreciation Night on Sept. 23 with speakers including Kevin Costner, Hall of Famer Jaime Jarrín, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, Dodger Chairman Mark Walter, Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax and Clayton Kershaw. DON T CALL IT A COMEBACK: The Dodgers led the National League with 46 regular-season comeback victories - the most in the Majors behind only Texas 49. IN THE FIELD: In the regular season, the Dodgers ranked third in the National League with a.986 fielding percentage, behind the Giants (.988) and Nationals (.988), while committing the third-fewest errors (80). MO AND FERNANDO: On this date in 1981, Rick Monday s solo homer in the top of the ninth sent the Dodgers to the World Series as they downed Montreal, 2-1 in the deciding Game 5 of the NLCS. Rookie sensation Fernando Valenzuela went 8.2 innings and gave up just one run on three hits, before Bob Welch came on to record the save. DIGGING THE LONGBALL: Yasmani Grandal and Justin Turner tied for the team lead with 27 home runs during the regular season, a careerbest mark for both, while Corey Seager (26) and Joc Pederson (25) made the 2016 Dodgers just the fourth team in franchise history to have four players with 25+ home runs: 1955: Roy Campanella / Carl Furillo / Gil Hodges / Duke Snider 1977: Dusty Baker / Ron Cey / Steve Garvey / Reggie Smith 1997: Eric Karros / Raul Mondesi / Mike Piazza / Todd Zeile 2016: Yasmani Grandal / Corey Seager / Justin Turner/ Joc Pederson YOUNG GUNS: The Dodgers 30 wins by rookies during the regular season were the most for the club in a single season since 1952, when it set a franchise record with 51 wins by rookie pitchers (Source: Elias Sports Bureau). Los Angeles rookies combined to go with a 3.69 ERA (178 ER/433.2 IP) in 118 games (70 starts) this year. Kenta Maeda posted the second-most wins ever by a Los Angeles rookie, behind only Rick Sutcliffe (17-10, 1979), and his 16 wins were the most by a MLB rookie since 2012, when Yu Darvish and Wade Miley each had 16 victories. He also ranked among the Majors top qualifying rookies in ERA (1 st ), opponents batting average (.229, 1 st ), strikeouts (2 nd ), innings (1 st ) and starts (32). CALL HIM ROY: Corey Seager, a top candidate to be the Dodgers 17 th Rookie of the Year and first since Todd Hollandsworth in 1996, finished the season ranked among the NL leaders in hits (193, 2 nd ), runs (105, 5 th ), doubles (40, 7 th ), multi-hit games (57, T-2 nd ), extra-base hits (71, 7 th ), total bases (321, 4 th ), batting average (.308, 7 th ) and slugging percentage (.512, 10 th ). According to Stats, LLC, Seager is just the fourth rookie since 1969 to rank in the NL s Top 10 in batting average and slugging percentage, joining Dusty Baker (1972, ATL), Mike Piazza (1993, LA) and Albert Pujols (2001, STL). Seager s 26 regular-season homers established a Dodger record for a shortstop, breaking the previous record of 22, held by Glenn Wright (1930). Seager s 193 hits were the most by a big-league rookie since 2001, when Albert Pujols had 194 hits and Ichiro Suzuki knocked 242. Seager set Los Angeles rookie records in hits (193), runs (105) and doubles (40), while tying for second with 26 homers and ranking second in batting average (.308) and OBP (.370) among team rookie qualifiers. THANK YOU: The Dodgers led MLB in attendance for the fourth consecutive season, finishing with 3,703,312 (45,720 average) and eight sellouts on the season. ALL-STARS, AWARDS AND ACCOLADES: Kenley Jansen (first selection), Clayton Kershaw (sixth selection) and Corey Seager (first selection) were named to the National League All-Star team, with all three earning selections via player balloting. Seager was the youngest position player to be honored as an All-Star in franchise history and the third-youngest Dodger All-Star overall (at the time of their first selection), behind only Fernando Valenzuela and Ralph Branca. Kershaw was named the National League s May Pitcher of the Month, while Corey Seager was selected as the league s June Rookie of the Month. Seager was honored as Baseball America s Rookie of the Year and the Dodgers Hank Aaron Award nominee. Chase Utley was named the winner of the 11th annual Roy Campanella Award, which is given to the Dodger player who best exemplifies the spirit and leadership of the late Hall of Fame catcher, and is voted on by the players and coaches. Adrián González was selected as the Dodgers Roberto Clemente Award nominee for the third time in his four full seasons with Los Angeles. The Dodgers have four finalists for Players Choice Awards: Clayton Kershaw (NL Outstanding Pitcher), Corey Seager (NL Outstanding Rookie), Rich Hill (NL Comeback Player) and Justin Turner (Marvin Miller Man of the Year).
