The Sox opened the homestand last night with a 7-0 loss to the Angels after going 4-2 on their last trip to Minnesota (3-0) and Tampa Bay (1-2) from 4/ Following this four-game series, the White Sox conclude the homestand with three games vs. Texas (4/22-24) before taking a seven-game trip to Toronto (4/25-27) and Baltimore (4/28-5/1). The Sox have just one off day in April (4/12) they play 17 of their fi rst 27 games on the road and 33 of their fi rst 42 outside the AL Central division. TONIGHT'S STORYLINES Despite a three-game losing streak, the White Sox 8-5 start is their best after 13 games since 2008 (also 8-5). The Sox are hitting.165 (21-127) with fi ve runs scored over their last four games. Chicago's bullpen leads the major leagues with a 1.72 ERA and has been scoreless in eight of its 12 games. ROSTER MOVES Prior to tonight's game, the White Sox recalled RHP Erik Johnson from Class AAA Charlotte. Johnson, 26, takes the roster spot of OF J.B. Shuck, who was optioned to Charlotte following last night's game. He is 0-1 with a 4.22 ERA (5 ER/10.2 IP) and 12 strikeouts over two starts with the Knights this season. LAST NIGHT'S RECAP The White Sox were limited to three hits as they suffered their third straight loss, 7-0, to the Angels. Carlos Rodon suffered the loss, allowing fi ve runs on six hits over 0.1 IP, the shortest outing by a Sox starter since Neal Cotts also lasted 0.1 IP on 8/28/03 at the Yankees. Rodon had made 10 staight quality starts dating back to 8/11/15, going 6-3 with a 1.73 ERA (13 ER/67.2 IP). Four Sox relievers combined to hold the Angels to two runs over 8.2 IP, with Zach Putnam retiring all nine batters faced over a career-high 3.0 IP. LATOS IN SELECT COMPANY RHP Mat Latos is 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA (1 ER/12.0 IP) and four hits allowed through his fi rst two starts with the White Sox. According to Elias, Latos is just the sixth pitcher since 1913 to win each of his fi rst two starts for the Sox with an ERA under 1.00 he joins Morrie Martin in 1954 (0.52), Harry Byrd in 1955 (0.57), Frank Baumann in 1960 (0.00 ERA), Jack Lamabe in 1966 (0.00) and Ken Brett in 1976 (0.00 ERA). PITCHING PROWESS The White Sox lead the American League in ERA (2.84), bullpen ERA (1.72) and opponents average (.217) and are tied for fi rst in quality starts (9). Chicago's 2.84 ERA through 13 games is its lowest since 1966 (also 2.84) the Sox have held the opposition to one or no runs in fi ve of their 13 games QUALITY IN QUANTITY The White Sox have made 1,166 quality starts since the start of the 2003 season, the second-highest total in the major leagues behind the Mets (1,171). The Sox are tied for the American League with nine quality starts this season after leading the league with 98 in 2015, their highest total since 2003 (also 98). Jose Quintana (2nd, 27) and Chris Sale (T3rd, 26) rank among the AL leaders in quality starts since VIEW FROM THE TOP The White Sox have spent 11 days in fi rst place, matching their combined total from The Sox spent zero days in fi rst in 2015, four in 2014 and seven in 2013, including off days in 2012, they led the divsion for 117 days. ALBERS ON A ROLL Matt Albers has thrown 29.1 consecutive scoreless IP over his last 26 appearances dating back to 8/5/15, the 10th-longest streak in White Sox history and longest active in the major leagues. Albers is 1-0 with 10 holds, 23 hits allowed, six walks and 22 strikeouts during his career-best streak, which is the longest by a Sox pitcher since Wilson Alvarez threw 31.0 IP in WHITE SOX VS. ANGELS The Angels lead the season series, 1-0. The White Sox went 4-3 against the Angels last season for their fi rst season series victory since 2010 the Sox swept a three-game set on 8/10-12 at U.S. Cellular Field, their fi rst at home over the Angels since 8/18-20/03. Chicago batted.253 with a 1.83 ERA and outscored the Angels, The Angels lead the all-time series, the White Sox are at home (63-56 at U.S. Cellular Field) and on the road ( at Angel Stadium). HOW THE WEST WAS WON The White Sox have gone (.632) vs. the American League West since 2015, the second-best winning percentage in the major leagues behind San Francisco (.650). Sox pitchers have recorded a 3.35 ERA (121 ER/352.1 IP) and have made 29 quality starts in 38 games. NO REST FOR THE WEARY The White Sox are in the midst of a stretch from 4/13-5/1 where they play 19 straight games without a day off (3-3 record). Chicago has one scheduled off day in April, tied with Arizona for the fewest in the major leagues by comparison, the Mets (six) and Kansas City (fi ve) have the most off days in April. LEADOFF MAN Adam Eaton is hitting.347/.385/.449 through his fi rst 12 games, compared to.149/.216/.191 at the same point in Eaton has reached base safely in 32 of his last 34 games dating back to 9/9/15, hitting.360 (50-139) with a.422 on-base percentage and a.904 OPS. He became the first White Sox player since Nellie Fox in 1955 to open the season with four consecutive multihit games. THE CELL AT 25 The White Sox are celebrating the 25th anniversary of U.S. Cellular Field in 2016 among the historic events at U.S. Cellular Field, the Sox hosted the 74th All-Star Game on 7/15/03 and won Games 1 and 2 of the 2005 World Series vs. Houston. Mark Buehrle threw a no-hitter on 4/18/07 vs. Texas and a perfect game on 7/23/09 vs. Tampa Bay, Jim Thome hit his 500th career home run on 9/16/07 vs. the Angels and a solo home run in a one-game playoff vs. Minnesota on 9/30/08 which proved to be the difference in a 1-0 Sox victory. JACKIE ROBINSON DAY The White Sox will celebrate Jackie Robinson's legacy on 4/22 vs. Texas as part of the celebration, Andre Loving the winner of the 2016 Black History Month video essay contest will throw a ceremonial fi rst pitch. Loving is a student at Percy L. Julian High School, and his video will be played on the video board at U.S. Cellular Field. PROGRAMMING NOTES The White Sox game on 5/5 vs. Boston has been switched from CSN to CSN+ as a result, both games of the doubleheader on 5/23 vs. Cleveland will be televised by CSN. HONORING EDDIE The White Sox will honor sports broadcasting legend and long-time club executive Eddie Einhorn by wearing an Eddie patch on their uniform sleeve during the 2016 regular season.
