Following Friday night s win, the Braves lead the BayBears by a game in the South division standings. Left-hander Jed Bradley gets the nod against right-hander Taylor Clarke. LAST TIME OUT: Dustin Peterson s go-ahead two-run homer in the 8th inning put the Braves on top on Friday night in a 3-2 win over the Mobile BayBears, giving them sole possession of first place in the South division with 29 games left to play. Joey Meneses added an RBI single in the 8th to put the game away. Max Povse took a no-decision, allowing just a run on three hits over seven innings, striking out three and walking three. Taylor Lewis picked up the win in his double-a debut, allowing a run over the final two innings. Both runs for the BayBears came on solo home runs from Todd Glaesmann and Kevin Cron. It was the Braves 16th win in their last 21. HARDEST WORKING PITCHERS IN BASEBALL: With 16 extra inning games this year, the Mississippi Braves pitching staff has thrown 1,004 innings, more than any other team in the Southern League. By comparison, the next closest team is Chattanooga with 983 innings pitched. GOODBYE, JULY; HELLO AUGUST: After starting the month of July 5-8, the M-Braves rattled off 13 wins in their next 16 games in July, finishing the month At the plate, Johan Camargo (.354/.388/.510, 9 2B, 3 3B) and Dustin Peterson (.345/.393/.504, 13 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 25 RBI) led the way. On the mound, Lucas Sims (3-1, 2.25 ERA), Max Povse (4-0, 2.97), and Jed Bradley (1-2, 2.93) anchored the rotation. TWICE IS NICE: Connor Lien blasted two homers in Sunday afternoon s 8-3 win at Pensacola, becoming the first M-Brave to do so in more than two years. The last time it happened was July 16, 2014, when Daniel Castro smacked two homers in a game at Birmingham. It was the 32nd time in M-Braves history. MV-PETERSON?: Dustin Peterson has his name across the league leaderboard in a number of categories. He currently sits tied for 6th in batting average (.294), 2nd in RBIs (75), 1st in hits (125), 1st in doubles (34), 1st in extra base hits (45), and 2nd in total bases (190). THE PEN IS MIGHTIER THAN THE SWORD: The M-Braves bullpen has been stellar of late, allowing just 14 earned runs over their last 83.1 IP dating back to July 11, a 1.51 ERA. The Braves are 17-7 in those games, with the bullpen going 8-2 with 10 saves. OZZIE ALWAYS ON BASE ALBIES: Ozzie Albies 36-game on-base streak ended on Wednesday night with an 0-for-4 showing. Albies reached on an error in the first, but errors don t extend on-base streaks per baseball s scoring rules. The streak dated to April 24 before his promotion to AAA Gwinnett. It s the longest streak in the Southern League this season, breaking Chattanooga s Zach Granite 34-game mark from 5/22 to 7/4. The longest on-base streak in M-Braves history was 40 games, set by Christian Bethancourt from June 13 to August 14, FROM THE STRETCH: M-Braves pitchers lead all of double-a baseball in walks issued (446), yet lead the Southern League and are 2nd in all of double-a baseball in ERA (3.16). In the Hole The Braves have a day off for travel back from Jacksonville before they start a five-game homestand against the first-half champion Pensacola Blue Wahoos, double-a affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds.
