1 FISH BITES The Marlins close out their 2016 campaign taking on the Nationals in the final game of their three-game set in Washington, D.C. Right-hander Tom Koehler (9-13, 4.15) is starting for Miami; he is 1-2 with a 3.00 ERA in four starts this season against Washington, and 4-8, 4.18 in 13 career starts against the Nationals. The Nationals will send right-hander Max Scherzer (19-7, 2.82), who is 2-1 with a 4.58 ERA in three starts against the Marlins this season, and is 5-2 with a 3.50 ERA in nine career starts against Miami. A win today would give the Marlins 80 wins for the first time since finishing in YESTERDAY AT WASHINGTON The Marlins fell to the Nationals, 2-1 at Nationals Park yesterday, with Wei-Yin Chen (5-5) taking the loss after allowing two runs in 5.0 innings. Miami s lone run came on an RBI single by Chris Johnson in the sixth inning, to cut the deficit in half, but the Marlins left seven on base and were 1x6 with runners in scoring position. Miami drew five walks, but had just four hits, all singles. LIFE ON THE ROAD The Marlins enter today s game with a record (.488 winning percentage) on the road this season. The 39 wins are the team s most road wins since going on the road in A win today would give the Marlins a.494 winning percentage on the road, which would tie for the team s third-best in franchise history. The Marlins best all-time road winning percentages are: (44-37); (41-41); (40-41); (41-43) & 2008 (39-41). SAVING THEIR BEST FOR THE ROAD The Marlins have 30 saves in road games this season, compared to 25 saves at home. The 30 road saves is tied with the Mets for the Major League lead and are the most ever in Marlins history. The last time a National League team recorded more than 30 saves on the road was in 2012, when the Reds had 32 saves on the road. ONE AWAY The Marlins are 9-9 against the Nationals this season, with a 4-4 record at Nationals Park. With a win today, Miami would secure its first season series win against Washington since going 11-7 against the Nats in DOUBLE DOUBLE Christian Yelich (38 doubles) and Martín Prado (37 doubles) are the first Marlins teammates to each hit at least 37 doubles in a season since 2009 (Hanley Ramirez & Jorge Cantu, 42 doubles each). The Marlins have not had a player hit 40 doubles since 2009 and Yelich s 38 doubles are the most by a Marlin since ROAD COMFORTS The Marlins boast a.274 team average on the road this season, the highest mark in the Majors. It is the second-highest mark in Club history, behind a.276 average in Miami is batting 24 points higher on the road than at home (.250) this season. According to STATS, That is the largest gap from road to home in the Majors this year, the largest gap in Franchise history, and the highest in the Majors since the Mets hit 28 points better on the road in 2014 ( ). J.T. Realmuto currently owns a.352 road batting average, second in the Majors and tops in the NL, while teammate Martín Prado is a.339, fourth in the Majors, third in the NL. Realmuto s road average is currently third-best all-time in Club history, behind Jeff Conine (.357, 1994) and Hanley Ramirez (.353, 2009). 40 FOR #44 Overall record on this date: 7-1 RHP A.J. Ramos recorded his 40 th save of the season on Friday, becoming just the fifth closer in Club history to have 40-plus saves in a single season. The last Marlins closer to do so was Todd Jones (40 SV) in The other three Marlins closers to do so are Armando Benitez (47 SV in 2004), Antonio Alfonseca (45 SV in 2000) and Bryan Harvey (45 SV in 1993). GETTING THE JOB DUNN LHP Mike Dunn earned his sixth win of the season on Friday, with 1.0 scoreless inning in relief. The six relief wins tie him with Kyle Barraclough for the team lead and the two Marlins relievers are tied for fourth among National League relievers in wins. Since joining the Marlins in 2011, Dunn has made 405 appearances and picked up 26 relief wins. Among active pitchers in that span, he ranks eighth in games played and tied for fourth in relief wins. ON A LATE-SEASON RUN Dee Gordon stole 14 bases in September, the most in the Majors. He had a streak of four consecutive games with at least one steal snapped on Friday; it tied for the longest streak of his career (fourth time), and tied with four others for the second-longest streak in the Majors this season, behind Jarrod Dyson (5). Only Billy Hamilton (19 in August & 16 in July) and Starling Marte (15 in July) have had better months this season, while Jonathan Villar also had 14, in May. Gordon is just the sixth Marlins' player (ninth time) to reach 14-or-more steals in a calendar month, joining Luis Castillo (19 in May 2000; 16 in August 1999), Juan Pierre (17 in July 2005; 16 in June 2003; 14 in July 2003), Emilio Bonifacio (16 in July 2011), Chuck Carr (16 in September 1993), and Hanley Ramirez (14 in August 2007). Gordon has recorded 12 steals since September 14, a span of 14 games. He stole three bases on the 14 th and the 24 th, giving him 13 career games with three-plus steals. Only Billy Hamilton (14) has more such games since the start of HIS FAVORITE PASTIME Giancarlo Stanton has always enjoyed hitting against the Nationals, particularly in the District. He has more home runs (28) and RBI (65) against them in his career than against any other team, while his 16 home runs and 32 RBI at Nationals Park are his second-highest totals at any road venue, behind only Citi Field (17-33). His.310 career average here in D.C. is by far his highest in an NL East road venue, ahead of Citi Field (.242), Citizens Bank Park (.229), and Turner Field (.207). According to STATS LLC, Matt Kemp is the only player since 2010 to have more home runs against a single NL opponent than Stanton's 28 against the Nats; Kemp has 32 homers against Colorado in that time. FUN WITH TWO Miami has 571 hits with two strikes on the season, which surpasses the Franchise record of 552 set in Miami's.198 average with two strikes is the second-highest mark in Club history, behind a.207 in The Fish lead the National League in both hits and batting average with two strikes this season, and trail only Boston (617/.210) for the Major League lead in each category.
