Thaete is an Anaheim resident and 2001 Canyon High School graduate serving in the United States Marine Corp, having just completed his third tour of duty in Iraq this past March. His first tour of duty in Iraq came in 2004, in Operation Phantom Fury in Fallujah. In 2005, during his second tour of duty, Cpl. Thaete was struck by a roadside bomb while serving with his unit. For his courage and heroics, he was awarded the Purple Heart. His father is a motor officer in the Anaheim Police Department and works duty at the Orangewood Gate at Angel Stadium. Capt. David Pitz, Sgt. Robert Younkins and Sgt. George Marquez will join Cpl. Thaete on the field; all are members of his Marine Corps team Salt Charlie, a part of Unit First Anglico, and have served together in Iraq for the past three years. Jackie Robinson Tribute Ceremony The Angels will open the homestand by honoring baseball legend Jackie Robinson during an on field pre-game ceremony. During the ceremony, the

2 Angels Baseball Foundation will present representatives of the Jackie Robinson Foundation with a $5,000 donation. Gary Matthews Jr. will also honor Robinson by wearing his retired number 42 for the night's game. Girls Softball Night Over 10,000 softball players from all over Southern California will be in attendance. Before the game, A.S.A. Softball will hold on-field drills for softball players. Seven lucky A.S.A. Softball Players will run out on the field with the Angels. Saturday, April 21 vs. Mariners, 6:05 Television: KCOP Each home game Vladimir Guerrero provides the opportunity for local charities and youth groups to attend an Angels game by donating tickets in Vlad s Pad (Section 238, Rows B-E; Section 239, Rows S (1-14) &T (1-13). The following charities received tickets for April 21: Los Padrinos, Upland Little League T-Ball, Boys & Girls Clubs of Stanton & Tustin Saturday Night Drive In the middle of the fifth inning, a brand new Chevrolet vehicle will be driven onto the field from Tunnel A to kick-off the Saturday Night Drive sweepstakes. Beginning May 5th, Chevrolet will be giving away a Chevy vehicle every Saturday home game to one lucky winner. Pony Baseball Over 10,000 Pony Baseball Players from all over Southern California will be in attendance. Before the game, there will be on-field drills for Pony baseball players. Seven lucky players will run out on the field with the Angels. Mike Scioscia s Sunkist Youth Baseball Clinic On Saturday April 21 st, Angels Manager Mike Scioscia will join the Amateur Baseball Development Group and over 300 kids for the Mike Scioscia s Sunkist Youth Baseball Clinic in Thousand Oaks. Select Angels players, coaches and broadcasters will team up to teach the group the fundamentals of baseball. The

3 clinic runs from 10:30 AM until 12:30 PM at the Conejo Creek Ballpark in Thousand Oaks (field is located at Janss Road and the 23 Freeway). The free clinic will provide the kids with an opportunity to play baseball with the Angels and hone new and old skills. The kids will also have the opportunity to test their Angels knowledge and receive autographs. Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation Play Ball! Tour Also on April 21 st, 50 athletes from the Angels Gene Autry RBI League had the opportunity to take part in a youth skills clinic with representatives of the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation (CRSF), at Erstad field in Garden Grove. The league was selected as one of 15 RBI leagues nation-wide to participate in the CRSF Play Ball! Tour for Kids. In addition to participating in the clinic, the Gene Autry RBI League will also receive a $10,000 grant and a $6,500 equipment package. Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI), a youth outreach program supported by Major League Baseball and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, is designed to increase participation in baseball, encourage academic achievement, develop selfesteem, and teach the value of teamwork. The new collaboration with CRSF aims to expand the MLB Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities program by 30 percent, and provide nearly one million dollars in equipment and cash grants to support new and established RBI programs in 60 U.S. cities.

Kid's can take in magic shows, arts and crafts, balloon artists, face painting and games under the Happy Meal Tent. Prior to the start of each game, a Pop Fly contest is held in the outfield where one lucky kid is chosen to test their ability to catch fly balls from the Strike Force. Little League Day Over 10,000 little leaguers from all over Southern California will be in attendance. Before the game, there will be on-field drills for little leaguers. 5 CIF Award Ceremony On Tuesday, April 25 th, the Angels are proud to honor the winners of the annual CIF Southern Section Academic Awards program during an on field pre-game ceremony. These awards were given to local high school athletic teams who achieved at least a 3.0 grade point average during the first semester of the school year. Each of the 23 CIF-SS schools also selected a male and female individual Student-Athlete of the Year. After being recognized on the field, the group will be able to enjoy a great night of Angels Baseball with friends and family.
